D.C. Pastors Rally Behind Marriage Equality!

Over 100 pastors in Washington D.C. have united in their support for same-sex marriage!!!
Jesus would approve!
These brave religious leaders have spoken out in opposition to the pastors, primarily African American, who protested D.C.'s recognition of same-sex marriages from other states last month.
"God is love and love is for everyone," said Rev. Dennis and Christine Wiley of the Covenant Baptist Church in D.C.
Bishop Harry Jackson of the Hope Christian Church in Maryland was quoted as saying "I'd rather be biblically courageous than politically correct," during the time of protests against equality in May.
Rev. Wiley, who is African American himself, is challenging the old fashioned ideals of his fellow pastors against gay marriage.
"Because those of us who have been oppressed ought to be the last ones to oppress," Wiley stated.
So far, 137 leaders have signed a declaration of support for marriage equality in D.C.

"I'd rather be biblically courageous than politically correct"–More like Biblically illiterate, considering the passages most frequently used to protest homosexuality are mistranslated–the original text says nothing about homosexuality specifically, rather condemns the practice of prostitution in the temples (hetero or homosexual ), having "soft" morals, and the like. I've been studying the Bible back to the original languages for more than ten years, and I can't say I know everything but I know my God doesn't pick and choose who He loves, He is not a respecter of persons. I hate to be judgemental myself but there's nothing worse than someone being holier than thou when they don't even take the time to get the facts straight. But that just proves what it's all about, it's about their inflated egos and sense of self-righteousness (self being the operative word), rather than anything to do with a love of God. Moreover, if those people were really Christians they would remember the law that Jesus put forth for all of us, which is to love God w/all our hearts, minds, and souls, and to love all our neighbors as ourselves–not just the straight ones.

i am always for equality, but i don't think that gay living/couples are the same as other couples and i don't believe in forcing things. a civil union (providing the same rights) is fine for me and should be fine for everyone.

When the thumpers cry being denied the right to discriminate, they are wrong.
They are not required to perform same sex weddings and every church can deny to marry anyone they wish - Catholics do it to divorced folks, if you're not a Mormon you can't go into the temple and just average pastors who think the marriage is wrong can deny couples. So fine your church doesn't believe in it - you don't have to marry them.
However the real discrimination is to the churches who stand behind marriage equality. These are the churches who are NOT allowed to do it by the religious bigots. Marriage is a civil right and everyone should have access to the civil part of it. Churches that back marriage equality should have the right to marry couples, churches that aren't behind it - should have the right not to have to marry any couples they don't wish to.
It's that simple - but stop discriminating against the many churches who support marriage equality.

It is not gay marriage, it is homosexual marriage. One does not live a gay lifestyle, one lives a hetrosexual or homosexual lifestyle. Gay is a feeling of happiness, not a lifestyle. People need to ensure they use grammatically correct English. We would not want people to become confused as each word has a specific definition and gay has nothing to do with a type of marriage or lifestyle.

Regardless of political or religious beliefs no one has the right to dicttate who can and cannot express their love to another through marriage. Why is it that the religious are so threatened? No one is telling you can't marry, have kids, have insurance becuase of who you choose to be with. The gay life, if it doesn't affect YOU directly shouldn't be something you should be freaking out about. Worry about yourselves and let them have the right to be human beings with the same inherent right as you or me. To live in peace and as equals. How does their adopting kids affect YOU?
