Simon Cowell Taking Care Of Susan Boyle

Filed under: Anglophilia > Legal Matters > Simon Cowell > Susan Boyle

wenn5233268q.jpg

As we mentioned earlier this week, Susan Boyle suffered an "emotional breakdown" after losing Britain's Got Talent and was checked into The Priory rehab clinic in London on Sunday.

Many are now speaking out about the whole ordeal, including Culture Secretary Andy Burnham, who suggests an investigation should take place to look into the treatment of SuBo during the show.

Burnham says, "I think there should be a process of discussion with the broadcaster concerned. Let's get the facts. I don't know enough about whether the duty of care was exercised in this case. We are living in a world where it is not just about what happens on telly on a Saturday night. There is 360 degree scrutiny, 365 days a year. We need to look after people, not just around the camera. Broadcasters should always put people's welfare first."

But we have to give credit to Simon Cowell. Turns out the perceived grouch is actually paying for Boyle's treatment!!!

Wonder if the other judges will chip in?

As for Ofcom, the UK communications independent regulator, they're already examining the situation, though a full case will not likely happen as they believe the show shouldn't be responsible for what happens after a programme is over.

What do U think? Should the show and it's producers be held accountable for SuBo's breakdown?

on american idol he seems really mean and rude but when i saw a interview on the late late show he cracked me up.. does that mean idol is "fixed"?

  2. 2

    Aw so nice! Surprisingly~

  3. 3

Hellz no. Price of fame. 15 minutes of it.

    4

I thought the U.K. had universal health care. Isn't it paid for, no matter what?

  5. 5

He's a nice guy, just because he tells it like it is people presume he's a cold bastard. He's not.

  6. 6

She had to have known what she was getting into, fuck no the producers should be responsible.

  7. 7

Simon is actually quite nice. I know he cares about the well-being of people he has supported and rooted for on AI and on Xfactor.

  8. 8

Aww i love simon he's a lil softy! and no I don't think that the producers should be responsible for this. It was her choice to go the show. Sorry SuBo the world loves you.

HELL NO THE SHOW SHOULDN'T BE RESPONSIBLE. I really like Susan Boyle but she signed up for the show and she could have quit at any time. The show could not have predicted all the attention she would get. I guess we should hold the US responsible to since we put her on all our shows and forced her deeper in the spotlight. Don't go on these shows if you can't handle it. Bottom Line!

  10. 10

Absolutely NOT!!!! It's the stupid fucked up Papparrizi that is to blame!!!!!!

  11. 11

way to go simon Susan was from a small town I dont know if she can coped with all the media attention but bless her heart hope she gets better soon

  12. 12

Re: alexxx – Not necessarily… I think she's more mentally unsound than we give her credit for.

  13. 13

Nope. If u can't stand the heat, stay the hell out of the kitchen. Scottish folks aren't dumb. She knows what she signed up for. Seems like a nice woman though. Glad Simon pitched in to help but I certainly don't think he is obligated. After all SHE auditioned, he didn't knock on her door.

  14. 14

Your timing last night was perfect. It seem like when I need you the most…you T me. It's been like that the last few times. I'll explain that more when we talk. Yat all day ymi ms

  15. 15

Wow, never knew he actually had feelings

  16. 16

Simon Cowell's Company IS the producer of Britain's Got Talent, so it is they who are picking up the tab… and it is NOT coming directly out of Simon's pockets… it is coming indirectly out of his pockets and will be a business expense, unless I miss my accounting background. However as Simon and co stand to make very good money out of whatever she makes gross as the agent's percentage, I am sure that in the long run both Susan and Simon will do very will. As for the other judges, they are paid for being Judges, while Simon is NOT paid as he basically gets the ultimate profits. So lets not cry too much for Simon. However he IS basically a nice guy AND a business man… and as long as that is remembered, all will be well. Are they responsible for Susan's exhaustion? Not really… the world's expectations and pressures are responsible. Also remember that ALL of the acts on Britain's Got Talent show up on Youtube each week, so it was word of mouth and NOT the show that made for the over 200,000,000 hits on the various clips of Susan Boyle's performance of I Dreamed A Dream

  17. 17

Simon plays a jerk but he's always doing charitable things. Gotta love Brits.

  18. 18

YES, they SHOULD be held accountable for her condition right now - they should've taken better care of her in the first place. Fuck them! Poor Susan :-(

  19. 19

There should be a screening process in place to prevent people with emotional issues from being in front of 30 million people, and then being made a spectacle of. Also, there should be an in-depth pre-show overview of what to expect if the unexpected happens and a shoe repairman from Nowhere becomes an instant celeb. Oh, and small children, under the age of at least 13, should not be allowed to perform, no matter how good they are.

  20. 20

CMON STOP FEELING SORRY FOR THIS BITCH!!! SHE HAD MENTAL PROBLEMS BEFORE; EVEN HER BROTHER CONFIRMS HER MENTAL STATE ASS A CHILD. DEFINITELY NOT THE PRODUCERS FAULT. STARS OR NOT GET MENTAL ISSUES AND HEALTH ISSUES AND THEY DONT RUN TO PRODUCERS FOR EVERY FREAKIN THING CUZ THEY NOT RESPONSIBLE. AND SHE WAS TREATED NO DIFFERENT THAN OTHER CONTESTANTS. FUUUCK HER. CYA!!

  21. MP says – reply to this

    21

No. No one forced her to be on the show. She could have dropped out at any time if the pressure became too intense for her to handle.

  22. 22

She's a "small-town lady" with a GREAT VOICE ! Perhaps more "care" should have been exercised here — she's not used to Media Glare and criticism and scrunity, often perhaps "cruel". Yes, they should do more to help "potential Big Talents"………..she's not Barbra Streisand, but she's Got Talent, and should be respected as such !

  23. 23

Re: kacky – Yes, the U.K. has universal public health care but not for private treatment.

  24. 24

omg they were nice enough to give this ugly bitch a chance, shes not that good and lost, and bitched about it, and flipped out, she should crawl in a cave and go away, poor simon, save your money, I HATE SUSAN UGLY AASS BOYLE

  25. 25

I don't think that this is something that needs to be looked into. If it were America, that wouldn't happen.

  26. 26

I hope they give her time to rest! Yes, Simon should be concerned for her. She does have a great voice. But, she needs to go slowly!

  27. 27

    .
Gotta love that Simon. He's the best judge on AI.
Maybe he has a vested interest in SuBo's recording contract?
Regardless, good for him .. that gruff exterior sure makes for good TV.

  28. 28

Perez you should know better. Susan Boyle is not the innocent, middle aged, bashfull woman that Britain's Got Talent portrays her to be. Ask most people in the disgustingly run music industry and they will tell you (although realistically i doubt they will) that Susan Boyle is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. She was deprived of oxygen as a baby, and as a result is mentally stunted. It is disgusting how the British media (Simon Cowell in particular) are exploiting this poor woman, and you Perez are only worsening the situation by reporting bullshit stories like this.

  29. 29

NO, not the producers! The TABLOIDS should be held accountable! I would love if the tabloids would be prohibited to dig into peoples lives!

  30. 30

She came to casting voluntary, nobody made her do it.
If somebody is responsible for her breakdown- blame the tabloids not producers.

  31. 31

Firstly the UK has a National Health Service which is free at the point of use but The Priory is a private facility so that isn't free. Hence Cowell paying for it. He's a good guy and she's an investment so it's hardly surprising.
Secondly Susan Boyle has a learning disability, she was starved of oxygen at birth and it is highly unsurprising after being hounded by the press constantly that she had an 'episode' of sorts. Poor bloody woman. I don't envy her. The press latched onto her like they have never done with contestants before and it's a travesty.

  32. 32

NO .!!! These people wan t to be famous and use shows like this to get attention.IF they cannot handle it then they should fuck off home. She is not special. Not the 1st time she has tried on TV for fame either. It is all a PR con…

  33. 33

    Re: kacky
Priory is private for rich bitches and druggie celebs. She is neither and should have gone to NHS ( free health service)

  34. 34

    I love Simon!
Nobody can really be held accountable for her breakdown, everyone deals with fame differently, but at the same time it can't have been easy for SuBo looking at headlines "Hairy Angel" everyday. And i don't think she's altogether there, it probably just got a bit much for her. Great voice though, even though she didn't win BGT she'll still record and do well. Female Paul Potts maybe!

  35. 35

Well, goodness knows if everyone who chose to participate in a reality/talent show had to pass a mental fitness test, the shows would shut down. I'm surprised that organizations are looking into whether the show is to blame: There are 3 year olds who sing on idol and do just fine.
Where does one draw the line on fitness for such contests?
Would it have been discriminatory to have NOT let Susan Boyle participate? Of course it would have.
She's being taken care of right now, and she will be stronger for it, and she won't live with the regrets of wondering if she 'could have won'.
    Good going, Susan! You TRIED.
…and it looks like you're going to get your dream of being a professional singer. Get healthy, and go for it!

  36. 36

thats exploitation -of course they should be accountable
the Least they can do is pay for her to recover
poor lady had no idea what she was getting into, shes so talented too

  37. 37

Who gives a flying fuck about these "Star Search" rejects? I can't believe this phenomenon has gone on this long. Nobody remembers who one last year's Idol/Talent once the new season begins. Remember when real artists paid their dues on the road and in shitty clubs?

  38. 38

Accountable? No, absolutely not. It is a well-known contest, and the "risk" of fame is understood. However, the fact that they - or, Simon, rather - is taking care of Susan speaks volumes of his humanity and understanding of the inherent difficulties. It doesn't mean Simon or the show is responsible; it means they care. I think this is being handled with great aplomb all around.

  39. 39

Oh for HEAVEN's sake. It's not that much pressure! The poor darling's obviously a little unstable. Her brother said she used to get "a wee bit anxious" over things like tests. With British understatement, you can translate that as bat$hit crazy!

  40. 40

The PRESS and MEDIA in generasl should be held accountable for her breakdown!!! Those who like to pour ridicule and hatred down on Mrs. Boyle after the semi-finals! They just made fun of her out of ENVY and out of their EVIL characters and hounted her on the internet and in the tabloids and attacked her verbally in hotel lobbies für 7 weeks(!) before she broke down…!
Her breakdown had NOTHING to do with her coming in 2nd…it was all cause of the EVIL media and "fans" and papparazzi attacking and abusing her verbally!

  41. 41

Moving forward. Obviously, Susan Boyle has a lovely voice and likely would be able to make albums,tour,etc.. However, under special needs, she needs a non-exploitive, but music business savy manager/agent, and a life coach to travel with her and be at her side to help and protect her.She will also need regular meetings with a psychologist/psychaitrist to help her cope with the negative aspects of fame. She would not be the first "different" celebrity, but I have a feeling that she will need quite a bit of mental health assistance to stay on track so that her talent cam shine beyond talent night in a pub in a small Scotland town.

  42. 42

No it's not BGT's fault it's actually sites such as this one who built her up only to smack her back down the minute she made a wrong move, poor lady. She knows nothing of the business and her mass exposure on the internet and to America was unfortunate and unecessary. She's technically not altogether well anyway - suffering from slight brain damage she acquired as a child, it makes me uncomfortable to see people mocking her in the media and the recent abuse she has received cannot have helped her mental equilibrium. Shame on anybody who ridiculed her is all that I can say.

  43. 43

Re: kacky – Not for rehabilitation at somewhere as upmarket as The Priory - it falls under the private sector and therefore has to be paid for.

  44. 44

Re: Apt. 54 – Haa piss off - ever heard of Robert Pattinson, The Ronsons, The Beckhams etc.

  45. 45

Re: LMGibson – My sentiments exactly.

  46. 46

I am happy to see Simon is a NICE human after all, makes me have to take him off the humans need to be dead list. So now have a list of 5 that shouln't die.

  47. 47

I LOVE SIMON!!! HE'S AN INCREDIBLY NICE GUY!!!!!!!!!! THIS DOESN'T SURPRISE ME AT ALL. HE'S A SWEETIE PIE. I AM TOO. EVEN THOUGH I COME OFF AS SASSY AND VERY OUTSPOKEN I CAN BE NICE TOO. I ALWAYS DONATE TO CHARITIES ANOYNOMOUSLY CAUSE I DON'T WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW.

  48. 48

lmao at anyone who thinks simon is doing this because he is a caring person. it's a good pr move (it makes him look good to fools) and he needs susan stale for the tour, in case people demand a refund. he also wants her to release an album and if he comes across as caring to susan, she will become more emotionally dependant on him, making her more easy to manipulate. simon did not amass a fortune by being nice. he was first given his opportunity to be on tv by his bff simon fuller and what was the first thing he did to show his appreciation? he stole the show idea and had to settle out of court. if he couldn't give a shite about his friends, why would he care even less about someone he's met a handful of times? people's naviety is very amusing to me.

  49. 49

Instead of blaming the show, how about asking the public to think about how their unsatiable appetite for gossip and gawking has a role in the subject's sense of privacy and ultimately their mental health. Once upon a time, a person could go on a national show and continue with their relatively normal life. Not now though…the public is just too self-centered for their few moments of entertainment to think about the harmful effects that their scrutinty has on a person. For example, Perez starts naming this lady SuBo.. if he was to show respect/compassion for this lady, perhaps he could refer to her by her proper name.

  50. 50

Re: RsHRsH – wth loooooooong why you spendin alll ur time on here.

  51. 51

Re: Brialyn – whos on the list? lol.

  52. 52

The UK has universal health care, but The Priory takes only 20 patients and is for rock stars and the very wealthy. It's the right place for Susan. No one will bother her there.
And while Simon is doing the right things and saying the right things, he's also going to make a ton of money when her CDs come out.

  53. 53

The show and producers are not responsible for anything except putting a woman in a somewhat fragile emotional state into the glare of the spotlight. Not a great idea, but neither was it a malicious act on the part of the show and producers. SuBo immediately seemed to me to be someone who was totally unaware of the impact her appearance on the show would have. When it happened, she was under a microscope and under enormous strain. Most people - even emotionally strong people - would find that kind of sudden and complete loss of privacy unnerving. SuBo only wanted a chance to have a shot at a career, and of course, she got it. She WILL have a career, because she can sing beautifully. But standing up to the media, the continual publicity and the stress of competition may not have been good things for her. I'm so happy Simon is helping her get the counseling and rest she needs. I wish her well and hope she recovers fully. She should make her record (and I'll buy it in a heartbeat to hear her do some of the great show-tune classics) and when she's up to it do concerts in venues where she feels comfortable. The glare of big-time national competition was a bad fit for her, but I'm so glad she did it, because otherwise she would most likely never have gotten a chance to show her talent. Simon, take good care of SuBo - she's a person who has something to give the world.

  54. 54

Enough down and out talk about Susan Boyle being stupid and dumb. No attacks on the show being responsible for Susan collapse. All three judges didn't think the pretty old lady would rise the eye brows of the world, as our dear and kind Susan prove could and has happen. Those kind of rating are for the rich and famous, not a nobody. Susan Boyle's voice is the only thing that has led to this break down. You ask how is that? With a voice like Susan's, the whole world want more and more. We the poeple of the world put Susan in the hospital. Susan gave until she couldn't any more. If we want Susan to get well, please let Susan rest. Pebble might be a cat, but pebble is family to her. Remember we all need TLC!!! SUSAN you get better, don't worry about us the world, we'll wait as long as it takes to get on your feet. THANK YOU VERY MUCH>GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS. AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!!!

Re: Apt. 54 – It's not all about the U.S you close minded idiot

  56. 56

hellooo.. now come on media peeps, stop the dramatics. SuBo suffered an Anxiety Attack, although these can be devastating and very scary. the first dose of feeling better is when you realize your not having a heart attack. She will be able to function fine it will not interfere with her becoming a bonifide entertainer. I for one love the amusing SuBo and those vocals. Once she has her staff (including a bodyguard) in place is will be fine. As for the Media … Media is as media does. Perez love this site!
