PetAirways: Flying The Slobbery Skies!

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & True

_mg_5212ateddy.jpg

Not comfortable sedating your kitten on a cross-country flight? Or sending your pup down to pet cargo?

If you've got the extra $, PetAirways is your solution!

The pet-friendly airline is expected to launch on July 14th and will offer pet-exclusive flights from Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C. for the "low" price of $250!

Each way!

Regardless, it's a cute idea!

Founder Alysa Binder started the company because of the harsh conditions pets are sometimes subjected to while traveling in cargo. From 2007 until 2008, 29 animal deaths from flying were reported, as well as 13 injured animals and 7 lost pets.

So sad.

Each "pawsenger" will have their own crate in coach, and for those extra long flights, PetAirways will make potty-pit stops along the way so each and every pet is comfortable throughout the flight!

Teddy may need to be one of their first pawsengers!

Do U think they'll have a frequent flyer program???

Aaaaw I think this is an excellent idea, if u have the money then why not! Most peoples pet are like another one of the family and just as important! x x

ps Teddy is looking extra cute in that pic! :-) x x

  3. 3

    i love this idea.

  4. 4

Actually this is not that expensive if you are planning to move across the country and have to fly your pet out. I am looking at $300 right now to fly my cat and he will have to ride in cargo. So, where can I sign up??

  5. 5

boss! ill do that when im rich

  6. 6

    What a WONDERFUL idea!

If they expand to Seattle, we can finally take a vacation!
Not only is transporting dogs in the cargo hold dangerous, it freaks them out/stresses them beyond description… just don't do it to your dogs, people!

I so hope this is successful.

    PLEASE EXPAND TO SEATTLE!!

    :D

  7. 7

thats actually such a cute idea!!
    im impressed

  8. 8

    agree

  9. 9

i would sooo hate my job!

  10. 10

i wouldn't trust them with my pooches..

  11. 11

    YAY! Puppy Power!

  12. 12

If I had to fly my dog I would use this for sure! My dog is my fourth child =)

  13. 13

Uh it doesn't even cost $250 each way for me to fly in the united states! Cute idea? Yes. Lucrative in this crap economy? Probably not

  14. 14

Doggie is so cute and they should be able to fly in comfort like the rest of us, even though flying is not what it should be.

  15. 15

$250 is CHEAP to fly a pet! I flew my 60lb dog from LA to NJ and it cost me almost $400 one way! and mario you are being sooo irresponsible, airlines will call emergency services if the suspect your pet has been sedated!! DO NOT SEDATE YOUR PET, even if your vet says to. most likely your pet WILL NOT be allowed on the flight if sedation is suspected. that being said, I will probably use this service next time I go back to NJ. cant believe those lost and dead pet statistics, i was sooo nervous for my baby girl to be in the cargo area, thank god nothing happened or i would die.

  16. 16

This would be fantastic! I just wish I had known about this before I spent over $1000 to rent a car just to avoid the cargo on airlines.

  17. 17

And how much fossil fuel will they be wasting while they land and take-off again so that Fido can pee?

  18. 18

yay! somebody is FINALLY creating a safe way to fly your pets - this is such a wonderful idea. i hope teddy enjoys his trip! where's he going, perez???

  19. 19

$250 is a pretty nice price. I flew my cat from Germany to the US and it cost me $900! Like i didn't already have enough expenses moving. Oh, well it was worth it.

  20. 20

    I hope they take rabbits!

  21. 21

love it!!!!!!!!!! It only costs $75 each way if your pet is small enough to be your carry on :) Hope they don't go bankrupt…

  22. 22

Sounds very cool, however, it also sounds expensive! $250 each way!!! i can fly round trip NY to LA for $300! not the best timing with the current economy.

  23. 23

Once again, a United States company comes out to steal peoples money. GASP… what a shock! *rolls eye*

West Jet, a Canadian company that also flies worldwide, already does this. Bu there is NO WAY that they would charge you $250 each way! Your pet can sit with you on the plane for the low price of $50 each way!

Wow… just another reason to hate American companies!

  24. 24

it's about time!!! that's awesome!!! i'm going to fly that airline with my kitty :)

  25. 25

Maybe people should stop bringing their pets with them EVERYWHERE they go.

  26. 26

dude this would be SO great! but i need them to serve Tampa, FL to Boston, MA! =(

    27

This is a really great idea, and $250 isn't expensive at all compared to regular cargo! I've been trying to figure out a way to move my pets across the country this year too.

  28. 28

southwest is offering the same thing starting mid-june and it's only $75 one way….

  29. 29

    haha pretty good idea :D

  30. 30

This is awsome! I wonder if they'll ever have international flights. It cost me a fortune to bring my dog to France and I was a wreck throughout the entire trip worrying if they forgot to turn the heat on in cargo. It all worked out but it cost over $1,300. and I wouldn't do it again like that.

  31. 31

I actually think this is a good idea. It might sound crazy at first but if you think about it´s just brilliant. Pets are like family and they should be treated like that. I don´t have a dog or a cat but I can imagine how awful it must be to put them in a small cage maybe even sedate them. If you take this airline you can be sure that your pet is alright during the flight and you don´t have to worry about them anymore. If I had a dog I would buy him a ticket…

  32. 32

Oh my god! Pets were lost and some died! Who was to blame for this they should be whipped!
I would pay for this no problem!
    p.s. Teddy is super cute!

  33. 33

    cute! love the idea

  34. 34

    great idea

  35. 35

Yes, i think so! I got two big old dogs who I would hate to sedate because of flying.

  36. 36

This is hella cheap, it costs me $600 to crate my dog. I hope they offer this service for overseas flights too :)

  37. 37

Actually, as of mid-June, Southwest Airlines is allowing pets onboard in the cabin. But they have to be in a carrier that can fit under the seat, so it mostly limits it to cats/small dogs/puppies. But you can buy two round trip tickets for Southwest for that crazy price of $250!

    38

    Huge smart!
    Now doggie drive thrus please!
travel puppies need good eats too!

  39. 39

$250 is actually a pretty good deal, it costs about that to ship them in a crate anyway. I paid $150 to take my guy on the plane with me.

  40. 40

    So happy about this!!
