he has a better record at being right .. then u do

  2. 2

Name a president who has done better on gay rights issues.

  3. 3

Nope, he's RIGHT. Marriage is a religious institution. And a state issue. Yes to civil unions. No to a federal law approving gay marriage.

  4. 4

    He can't make everyone happy!

  5. 5

rome wasn't built in a day

  6. 6

When Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil rights legislation he said "This is going to lose us the South for decades. Too bad more politicians aren't that brave.

  7. 7

Get elected then do whatever you want! It's the American way!

  8. 8

Nope. He's right! I am gay and agree with him. This man has got MUCH bigger issues than gay marriage.

  9. 9

  10. 10

exactly, he cant please everyone. and i doubt he gives an eff about pleasing you, perez.

  11. 11

he's right, deal with it perez

  12. 12

i can't believe i'm actually agreeing with him for once! wow..

  13. 13

Saying civil unions are the same thing as marriage is like saying "Who cares if you have to sit in the back of the bus? You'll still get where you're going!".

  14. 14

I'm doing the told you so dance

  15. 15

dont treat us like second class citizens!

  16. 16

I think you are taking it out of context…. again……. shocker

  17. 17

    obama is never wrong.

  18. 18

I thought one of his biggest points on his campaign was equality. Well, who ever voted him in was wrong. He doesn't face the issue straight on and up front.

  19. 19

what, you don't love him anymore, Perez?

  20. 20

  21. 21

He did NOT say anything about separate but equal! He said that marriage should not be federally regulated. He said NOTHING about not supporting gay marriage.

  22. 22

When are you going to post about David Carradine?!

  23. irmaa says – reply to this

he's right! Mario, just stay to what your good at: gossip and talking shit..

  24. 24

Don't blame me, I voted for McCain!

  25. 25

oh perezey, you wanted him so bad and he's doing nothing for your gay rights. ouch

  26. 26

    Boo on this one Obama!!

  27. 27

it isn't the federal governments' role, and it never has been. this is a states issue, and in order for this battle to be won, it's going to have to be decided state by state. there are bible belt states that may never concede to this, but i believe that eventually most of america will allow gay marriage. this is not a fight that can be won in 1 knock-out punch, but it will be won eventually. any minority group that's ever been alienated from equal rights has had to endure decades of opposition, yet nevertheless, eventually accomplished their goal!

  28. 28

I love Obama. He is a decent man and a great politician. But, I wonder if he would feel differently if he were gay? Does he also think that interracial marriage, which was illegal not too long ago, is also only a state issue?

  29. 29

  30. 30

    Go Obama!

  31. 31

  32. 32

He's not saying gay marriage shouldn't be legal, he's saying it's not up to the FEDERAL government to mandate. There's nothing to stop gay marriage on the state level. State by state…go for it!

  33. 33

    Equal protection under the law

  34. 34

He's wrong because you say so? hahahahaha fat bitch!!!!!!!

  35. 35

I think President Obama is making a clear separation between church and state. I applaud this considering he is risking alienating the bible belt in the U.S. He's trying to find some middle ground to respect the religous beliefs of some and the civic rights of all. It's a very good first step. Change takes time and I applaud all those around the world who put themselves on the line for equal rights. In some countries being gay gets you killed so let's use this to go forward.

  36. 36

    Bless Obama.
    Pray for peace.
    Pray for equality.

  37. 37

And another thing… why do straight people have a right to say whether gays getting married or not should be legal? We don't have any say on what they do with their lives…

Honestly, this is why so many countries hate America.

  38. 38

Re: emily22288 – He's saying get it done on the state level. It's not the FEDERAL government's job. And he's right.

  39. 39

Actually, what I think he was trying to say is a) he is pro gay marriage, he just needs time to make the rest of America pro b) there is no difference between a marriage/union between man-man, woman-woman and man-woman, it is all normal and healthy and natural. Anyone who disagrees is a jackass :)

  40. 40

He never said anything about "separate but equal". He has much bigger issues to think delegate rather than sit and ponder on the issues of gay marriage. although i am for gay marriages i believe that the state of our economy right now should be the biggest issue. im tired of everyone criticizing him when he is actually trying to save this country's economy, unlike a certain past president.

  41. 41

    Re: emily22288

Love this. So true. Apparently, gays as a minority isn't as big of a deal as other minorities in America.

  42. 42

you're such an idiot perez. he's on your freakin team.

  43. 43

and btw, perez, this clip does not have obama claiming that gay marriages are separate, but equal. he refers to civil unions because that is what has been available so far to the majority of the gay community. he supports the gay community in them being able to have all of the rights a heterosexual couple has, and says so. marriage is a states issue, and for obama to bring this to a federal level would mean that we have yet another president willing to mess with our constitution. didn't we just endure that for the past 8 years?

  44. 44

  45. 45

Re: justthatgirl11 – SHUT THE FUCK UP. God created all men and women, so obviously God created gay people too, you dumb bitch.

  46. 46

Re: Dixie77 – High Five to that!

  47. kjen says – reply to this

What did you expect? He isn't going to help the gay cause.

  48. 48

next time you try to make people hate the president for being your cheerleader, at least show the whole clip. dumbass

  49. 49

Re: LFurbish – You're argument shows you know nothing of the legal system. In California, Prop 8 passed 52% to 48%. Do you think 48% of California is gay? No. So obviously there is a lot of support for gay marriage from heterosexuals. It's a civil rights issue that should be handled on the state level.

  50. 50

Shut up, all you are is a one trick pony, educate yourself then you might have something smart to say

  51. 51

Re: emily22288 – Saying civil unions are the same thing as marriage is like saying "Who cares if you have to sit in the back of the bus? You'll still get where you're going!".
    That's very good!
I am going to borrow that.

  52. 52

As much as I think religion is ridiculous, Gay People would probably know how to make true advances within the sphere.
-so why isn't there a Gay Love Religion/places of worship that accepts people like no other separatist religion can?
Could anyone challenge gay marriage then?

  53. 53

Look up Lovings vs. Virginia. Marriage was a federal issue then!

  54. 54

Perez, get off your high horse. That's not what he said. He is 100% in the right to say marriage is not a federal govt issue.

  55. 55

and Yes Obama isn't playing fair. I did want Hilary much more than Barry.

  56. 56

I hate to be the first to call it, but President Obama is turning into a disappointment :(
He is all BLAHHHHHHHH blah with no action and no back bone :(
… and I am not just talking about gay issues, but in general.

  57. 57

Explain why he is wrong again??????

I believe marriage is a religious sacrament. Have you ever heard of seperation of church and state?!?!? Why is having all the same rights not enough?? Divorced people can't get remarried, is that an issue of equal rights?? No, its a religious issue people. I can't believe so many don't understand this. This country muct be breeding retards.

  58. 58

Mario why are you going full retard on us?

  59. 59

who cares about gay marriage. our country is about to be in a depression…all the gays need to stop worrying about a piece of paper and start saving their pennies.

  60. 60

He said nothing about separate but equal. Did you even watch the video? You clearly have no education. You are so ignorant. And I'm gay.

  61. 61

enough with the gay marriage shit already.

  62. 62

Hillary Clinton would've delivered equality for gay people!

  63. 63

  64. 64

What the hell ru talking about? Hasn't it been your oppinion that it should be the decision of each state. You just want something to bitch about.

  65. 65

Re: eatmejerkwad – amen, i wish i could find perez and laugh in his face

  66. 66

Marriage was not created by the state or the FED is was created by religion. I guess having all the same rights is not enough. Just like the rainbow thing you weren't happy picking just one fucking color you had to have them all. Greedy fucktards

  67. 67

Thus we see that God requires death for homosexuality just as he requires death for murder. This tells us that homosexuality is at least equal to the heinousness of murder. All homosexuals should be regarded by every society to be just as much criminals as are cold-blooded murderers.

  68. 68

Re: Bat Boy – You said "it isn't the federal governments' role, and it never has been. this is a states issue, and in order for this battle to be won, it's going to have to be decided state by state. "

But the federal government recognizes marriages performed in states for the purposes of federal taxes and death benefits…UNLESS they are gay marriages, so THAT is very definitly a federal issue.

  69. 69

Yes, he's wrong. Making people second class citizens is always wrong. We'll get past this. The arguments against marriage equality are all based on religious grounds and time will remind people that we are not ruled by each others' religious beliefs.

Homophobes can just relax. You'll have your way for a few more years. Enjoy this time, while you can still rule the lives of others for absolutely no valid reason. How sad for you!

  70. 70

It's not his fault. The President is a straight man. His opinions on gay issues are evolving. Acceptance of real equality is a process. He has not yet come into the full light of the sun. I believe in time he will and we will be free at last.

  71. Kdel says – reply to this

I completely agree with President Obama. Why do you insist on changing the definition of marriage?! If you can have all the same rights as married people why can't that be good enough? Dressing up in drag or being flamboyant isn't normal. You, Perez are definately not normal so why would you want a normal old marriage. Most gays love to be different so why not accept a different name for your unions?

  72. 72

Just because you like to have semen in your mouth, doesnt mean its right.

God created men to be with women. Putting a mans dong in your shit hole wasnt what god intended.

Being gay is wrong. Its a disease. Gay equeals child molestor in waiting.

  73. 73

You should have known Obama would do that. And he's smart and 100% right. It's not the gov't role just as he says.
It's so simple. God said 'Go forth and multiply'. A couple of the same sex can't do this together. God never created gay people. This is just the warped way of society. We shouldn't hate a gay person, but hate the lifestyle they CHOSE, kinda like a hooker or a gangster. They weren't born that way, they just CHOSE to live that way.

  74. 74

Well Obama never said he was going to approve same sex marriage on his campaign but he did said he will repeal DOMA

  75. 75

obama rocks n he is right shut da fuk up perez

  76. 76

HHA hAA HAAAH HHAAA!!! like you were really expecting him to do something, I'm gay but I certainly did not fall for his b.s., change we can believe in, my ass!!! he's full of platitudes and shit! too bad you have him for 4 years! maybe 8! and no he has done NOTHING for gay rights AT ALL!

  77. 77

it doesnt matter more and more states are legalizing it everyday whether people like it or not.

  78. 78

I'm against prop H8, and I'm pro same sex marriage… but Obama has bigger things to worry about than the gay marriage debate. To be honest, I think he's waiting until his second term to truly tackle the issue. Coming out and saying he's pro gay marriage and it should be a federal issue is radical in the eyes of many. He may be president, but he's still a politician.

  79. 79

I very much respect and agree with what President Obama has said. While I am personally for gay marriage, he makes a point by stating marriage should not be federally regulated. What happened to separation of church and state? The important part is honestly that you get the rights as every straight couple!

  80. 80

I think it should be left up to the states to decide, by the way, I am in favor of gay marriage and I'm straight. On the same hand, I doubt Obama will do anything regarding this issue during his first term. At this piont I would assume he'll be a two term President (look at teh right wing…they're fucked). And sadly this is a very polarizing issue. Obama knows that there's a lot of people out there that will turn their backs on a candidate over something like this. Look at how long it took Cheney to come out in favor of it. It's sad too. It's an emotional issue and most politicians will dance around it, and if Obama does support an amendment on the Federal level, I wouldn't expect til AFTER the 2012 election.

  81. 81

i freaking love that man seriously he makes a really good point

if our country didn't have to much on its plate already I would expect him to say/do something with the gay "marriage" issue but he has his head in the right place right now and please stop comparing the gay's struggles with the blacks struggles … I'm white and I know that there is NO comparison between to the two… well at least in my world lol

  82. 82

You idiots voted for the fool. You get what you deserve. perez has a huge face and is fat

  83. 83

If the federal government is not in the business of determining marriage then why does DOMA exist? Seem to me DOMA put the federal government clearly and intentionally in the business of marriage.

  84. 84

Re: LFurbish – Interracial marriage was still with a man and a woman AND it wasn't a sin. That was just stupidness on MANKINDS behalf.

  85. 85

he HAS to say shit like that
or else ppl will be on his ass.
i understand. but he's ALOT better than of the other candidates regarding this issue.
    we're lucky to have him.

  86. 86

They have much more important issues to worry about.

  87. Kdel says – reply to this

    Re: emily22288
Yeah and they have straight and gay water fountains. People are constantly burning crosses in their yards, gays have to pick cotton and their masters beat them. It is ridiculous to compare what black people went through to gays not being able to be legally married. I'm not saying that some horrific acts haven't been done to some gay people but it is nowhere near the scope of what black people went through. Don't kid yourself.

  88. 88

  89. 89

    He is right.

  90. 90

  91. 91

isn't "separate but equal" the reason the jim crow laws were in place for so long? obama should be ashamed of himself.

  92. 92

Re: shwendal – you are so sadly ignorant

  93. 93

What I wish is that he'd get down to real business, and stop kissing muslim ass in the Near East, and kowtowing to those jihad-loving fools.
He has brown-nosed and ass-tongued enough muslim leaders to make him an honorary butt-boy for everyone from the King of Saudi Arabia to to that holocaust-denying nut job Ahmadinejad.
I am ashamed for the dignity of our USA, and ashamed for the dignity of the Office Of The Presidency.
Michelle puttin' her hands on the Queen, and all.
    I predicted it all.

  94. 94

so as long as you can ride the bus, but you have to sit in the back of the bus, you're still going to get where you want to be, right? What's the problem?

  95. 95

Muahahahahaha. Who voted for him? you did! so stop complaining.

but anyways, if it's just the NAME why does it matter??

  96. 96

Isnt he saying he supports gays.

  97. tasha says – reply to this

He's entitled to his opinion just like your entitled to yours. It dosen't mean his is wrong or that your right all the time. In fact, your hardly ever right.

  98. 98

can someone please ask Barack to stop whistling when he uses words with an "s" in them. It is very distracting

  99. 99

He's not wrong. He's trying to protect the LGBT community by making sure people can't use religion as a reason to hinder your progress. He is doing that by making sure church and state are SEPERATE. ONE OF THE FOUNDING PRINCIPLES OF THIS COUNTRY.
