An Unexpected Hit!

The Hangover doubled its expected gross on Friday night at the U.S. box office, becoming the first sleeper hit of the summer. Insiders are estimating that the film could take it $46 - $53 million this opening weekend.
Disney and Pixar darling Up looks like it will continue to do well, and is expected to make $45 in its second weekend.
And, Will Ferrell, Land of the Lost looks lost indeed, with an estimated opening of only $20 million for the weekend. The summer's first box office bomb!
P.S. We saw The Hangover and we LOVED it! Can't recommend it enough!

I knew this would be a hit, everybody laughed their asses off when the trailer came on in the cinema.
unexpected hit? i expected it to be big… it looks hilarious.
maybe that will ferrell movie would've done better if they opened it a few weeks earlier or later, imo.
This movie was awesome! My hubby and I laughed from the start til the end! I cannot say enough good things about this movie! Effing hilarity!

How is this unexpected considering it's a different kind of money that isn't about women rallying to take down men just because they find out the guy doesn't like them. Sorry Perez if it's not a romantic sob story as you would like it to be. Not everything has to be about mushy gay feeling. Perez is a such a queer might I add.
Saw this movie last night. Probably the funniest movie I have seen in a LONG time! I will own this when it comes out on DVD! GO SEE IT!!!

the hangover was HILARIOUS and Up was simply amazing….i loved both.

$20 million opening is good…if you're film didn't cost $100 million to make. "Land of the Lost" might only make about 60% of it's budget back at best in the U.S. It might do ok overseas, but not well enough, I feel. You need to make about 2 times the amount of the budget to be considered a "hit" so basically this film will need to make over $200 million dollars to break even. Which it won't.
So therefore- it bombed.

My daughter and her friend went to the midnight show on Thursday night. She said is was funny and alright…and the audience was all guys.

Vincenotvance is right $20 Million is small change considering the numbers. And while Hangover was expected to be a hit, what is UNexpected is the fact that its outperforming Land of the Lost.

It was a funny movie, maybe not quite as funny as Old School, but still really good. I wonder what it would have been like if they had used the cast of Old School instead.

I'm really surprised so many people laughed through this entire movie. I saw it and I agree it was pretty funny, but I've definitely seen funnier movies…such as Superbad& anchorman. IMO, its worth waiting til its on OnDemand. There were a few funny parts, but I didn't hear that many people laughing in the full movie theater I was in…But to each their own

i saw the hangover yesterday and just got back from a showing tonight….however tonight the amc messed up bc the reel ended right at the beginning of the credits…and obviously for the ones who've seen the movie realize we missed the best part…
