Advertisers Pull Ad After Hateful Radio Show

Following the hateful and transphobic comments of morning radio DJ Rob Williams and Arnie States on Rob, Arnie & Dawn in the Morning, several advertisers have pulled their ads from Sacramento, California, radio station KRXQ.
So far, Bank of America, Verizon, Carl's Jr., Snapple, Chipotle, and Sonic have cut ties with the station, with Wells Fargo and Nissan to follow after Williams called a young boy wanting to transition from male to female "a weird person who is demanding attention" and advised his mother to tell him that wearing a dress is "not what we're doing in this culture." He also called transgender people "freaks" who simply require therapy since "they were [probably] molested" as children.
States added that he would hit his son if he ever put on high heels, saying, "You got a boy saying, 'I wanna wear dresses.' I'm going to look at him and go, 'You know what? You're a little idiot! You little dumb ass! Look, you are a boy! Boys don't wear dresses.'"
Co-host Dawn Rossi, however, defended the boy, and apologized on air for Williams' and States' insensitive remarks.
The next day the show tried to cover their asses by discussing transgender issues, but the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, which initiated action against the hurtful comments, said that they are still waiting for an apology.

I live in Sacramento and have to deal with all of my friends being fans of the worst radio show ever. Those three are NOT funny, smart or entertaining. The entire show is just the two men making racist or homophobic comments or LYING about current events. All the girl does is whine and make weird noises.
I hate those three and they should have been taken off the air a long time ago.

It protects Rob and Arnie from the police arresting them, fining them, executing them, etc. for making homophobic comments. It does NOT JUSTIFY their comments, and the advertisers have every right and reason to refuse to endorse homophobia. Rob and Arnie have the right to say whatever they want as long as they are willing to accept the consequences.

The radio hosts exercised their freedom of speech and the consequence was that companies exercised their rights not to be associated with the station. Perez is exercising his right to express (on his site that you choose to visit) his opinion. We are all free to say what we want. But is we choose to do stuff that is $hitty, like picking on some poor 5-yr old kid, then other people can judge us and choose not to support our business! It doesn't matter how you feel about gay rights, etc, no normal person should think it is OK for a couple of radio hosts to pick on a 5 year old on the radio. They're a$$h0leS.

I listen to this show and sometimes they are out there with what they say, but everyone has a right to their opinion and everyone needs to quit being so sensitive and offended all the time! Don't like it? Change the station!!! Listen to something else. I don't think they should be fired over this ridiculousness. I have to agree with NickJonasIsMyMan (although I'm a little partial to Joe), if these people aren't fired, I can see this heading to the surpeme court. It's not just a civil rights issue, these radio hosts may be entitled to their own opinions but they have no right to sprout off insults that are just down right derogatory. It's like racism and it should not be tolerated.
I heard that and filed a complaint with the FCC. I hope people realize that the first amendment covers free speech regarding the government prosecuting you for speaking against them. free speech does not mean freedom from being held responsible for what you say, particularly hate speech on public airwaves. and inciting violence against minors is certainly hate speech. (he said that if his son ever told him he felt that he was a girl, he would beat him with a high heeled shoe. also, that transgenders cannot be "allowed to exist.")

The kid has probably talked to a psychiatrist and (if his parents have enough $!) he will probably be checked out as he gets older. Who knows whether he will eventually want to go through with it? Ummmm, I live in Sac., and I USED to listen to these fools for a short while. Trust me it gets old fast!! They are foul and nasty individuals who spew hate and encourage others to hate on a daily basis. While I agree that what they have said about transgender kids is wrong, they say much, much worse on a daily basis. I think it's fantastic that someone is FINALLY standing up to them. I pray they get what they deserve, karma is a bitch!

It's disgusting how in the US, people who spew hate speech hide behind "free speech". Here in Canada, that would be classified as hate speech, plain and simple and rightfully so. We're talking about a radio station that is on the free airwaves where anyone can listen. It's not a premium paid-for station, like on satellite radio. Everyone involved in this needs to be held accountable…the employees who made the comments, and the station for allowing them to spew garbage over the public airwaves.
These comments veer well out of the realm of "insensitive" and are plain hateful and demeaning and violent. Yes, I believe in free speech, but y'all take it too far. Say what you want, but be prepared to be held accountable and suffer the consequences for offensive, violent remarks. Don't hide behind your Constitutional rights and use them as an excuse so you can promote violence against minorities.

people, please read the constitution. freedom of speech does entitle one to express their beliefs, but the concepts of sexuality are nearing, in my opinion, to the large-scaleness of racism. the civil rights movement engendered new aspects on the line between political beliefs and ethics; the main question in this case is a person's stance in morality. so, these people SHOULD be fired, as they have crossed this line between political and moral opinion.

As a native Sacramentan, I have to say this. Say what you will, there has never been a talk show within the Sac area that has raised as much money as they have ever. Before the fiasco of the "Wee for a Wii" contest, they would always have live shows to raise money for local charities. Even after that dreaded incident, they kept up with thei 29 hour RADathon to raise money for the Davis Children's Hospital. They always manage to raise more then a million dollars. On a day to day basis, they are satirical, which applies to the segment in question. It is people like you who blow it way out of proportion. I'm almost certain that they have more of a possitive effect on trying to help out society then you will ever have. Screw you and your reverse hypocriticalniss of society.
