Advertisers Pull Ad After Hateful Radio Show
Following the hateful and transphobic comments of morning radio DJ Rob Williams and Arnie States on Rob, Arnie & Dawn in the Morning, several advertisers have pulled their ads from Sacramento, California, radio station KRXQ.
So far, Bank of America, Verizon, Carl's Jr., Snapple, Chipotle, and Sonic have cut ties with the station, with Wells Fargo and Nissan to follow after Williams called a young boy wanting to transition from male to female "a weird person who is demanding attention" and advised his mother to tell him that wearing a dress is "not what we're doing in this culture." He also called transgender people "freaks" who simply require therapy since "they were [probably] molested" as children.
States added that he would hit his son if he ever put on high heels, saying, "You got a boy saying, 'I wanna wear dresses.' I'm going to look at him and go, 'You know what? You're a little idiot! You little dumb ass! Look, you are a boy! Boys don't wear dresses.'"
Co-host Dawn Rossi, however, defended the boy, and apologized on air for Williams' and States' insensitive remarks.
The next day the show tried to cover their asses by discussing transgender issues, but the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, which initiated action against the hurtful comments, said that they are still waiting for an apology.

I am so sick of all the political correctness. I don't agree with the way they expressed themselves, but aren't they basically saying what many people think? If I had a child that was transgendered or transsexual, I would be devastated. It's not something that most people in society understand or would want for their kids
What a joke! This is a radio show about debating controversial topics! Transgender children are CONTROVERSIAL! Some of the remarks were a little un-PC but they have a right to their opinion. And if you were familiar with the show you would understand that it is just Rob and Arnie's sense of humor. Just like Perez is very opinionated and has a right to voice his on this site.
By no means should they be fired, and I support gays and gay marriage but it is beginning to get old that now the people who dont agree have such a negative light. Sometimes you must agree to disagree and move on with your cause.

I listen to them every morning and they have offended me from time to time, but guess what? I change the station when this happens and tune back in later.

actually when you work for a corporation you do not have freedom of speech, if you go around your company and start telling some gay guy that he is a freak or some fat chick that she is ugly, and so on, you will probably get terminated or at least be suspended. Freedom of speech has to do with the government and not with private corporations. You can't go around and voice your opinion on a radio show when the advertisers that pay your salary will actually pull their ads and you can kiss your job good bye. There is a big difference with freedom of speech and instigating hate. I bet if you had one guy on radio talking about how great al qaeda is and that 9/11 was awesome you would lose your shit and could care less about freedom of speech so give me a fucking break.
I used to live in the Sacramento area and I love that radio show…It's very entertaining and they say the things they say to get a reaction….A lot of people are taking this to the extreme…Unless it's true why take offence…Whether it's true or not, it's an opinion…You don't like it switch to a different station…

After that they have been sort of handicapped, but even so, with the RADathon, they still raise more then $1,000,000 each year for the UCD Children's Hospital without visible support. They are not evil. Actually their current cause is for the K-9 units of the Sac Police.

Freedom isn't license. You can drive a car; you can't drive it drunk. Bottom line; the show wasn't funny, and a kid hearing it could easily have been driven over the edge and taken their own life.
We've seen the suicides in our support communities. Even with loving families. The kids die. They can't hide who they are, really; hiding often makes it worse.

You know, I am quite sick of people throwing this whole "freedom of speech" thing around. Yes, I know it's in the constitution. However, there is a HUGE difference between stating that you do not approve of transgenders or do not like them. It is quite another to call them names, tell them they should be physically abused, or telling them they should die. And this goes for anything person, place, thing, situation, circumstance that you may not like or approve.
Do you really think that "freedom of speech" means that kids have the right to call children names and bully them to the point of the kids committing suicide? If you read Perez, you know that he posted TWO recent cases where two little boys were harassed and were called derogatory homosexual names, and they ended their lives! And fuck the people who say that these kids should have 'sucked it up' or 'man up' or some such nonsense.
People should have the freedom and the right to express an opinion, but not in such a way as to damage another person, physically or emotionally. And people should have the freedom and the right to BE who they want to be, or feel they need to be. Who are we to judge??? How is someone else's sexuality, or gender, affecting you personally? If you have that much of a problem with it, then move to a town witih population 1.

I listen to the radio show EVERY morning. And I really think every one took it to far. If its on Perez, it's too far. I also listened to the show the morning after the comments were made. I honestely have nothing agaisnt what PEOPLE do with they're lives BUT everyone else's thoughts should'nt frowed on. AND I think only people that comment on there show should be just they're daily listeners. If you know the show, you would get what they are saying, and if you dont, dont expect to get whaty they are saying. If freedom of speech applies to you, then it applies to them. Its a good radio show, one of the few good ones left. Accept others opions or turn it off.

I don't find them entertaining in the least and honestly can't figure out why they are still on the air. First off, let me start by saying that I live in Sacramento. Although I am personally straight, I am actively involved in the gay rights movement. I have listened to the Rob, Arnie, and Dawn show for 10 years now. They are a debate oriented talk show, so on any given day while tuning in you will be subjected to their varying opinions. Each person holds their role on the show…Dawn the bleeding heart, Arnie the conservative from Texas, and Rob the intellect and mediator. Rob tries to give the audience a range of opinions that would likely be found in society and thus creating interest and debate with the audience themselves. Dawn provides the liberal point of view, Arnie the conservative, and Rob somewhere in between. Yes, Arnie did mention "hitting" his hypothetical child with a shoe. This was said in a joking manner. It is his role in the show to "lighten" the mood when serious discussions are taking place. Yes, names like "freak" were mentioned. The original discussion was on a 5 year old cross dressing at school. The name calling was supposed to illustrate what this child would have to go through EVERY DAY at school. However, I don't want to argue the debate all over again. I do want to say that if you listen to their show regularly, you would know where they are coming from and that they truly weren't trying to offend anyone. This show is HUGELY popular and has been #1 in Sacramento and Reno areas for practically a decade by a 1/3 margin.

Children will be hurt by this, and if you truly want to protect children you owe it to them to understand the fullness of the RAD show and understand how what happened was actually the violation of the show's #1 and only "line": do not hurt children.
To fellow RAD family members who are upset at what they feel is Rob's "selling out" or expressing capitulation: as Rob has said to us in times past, I think you are "Allowing your passion to override your empathy."
I've had the opportunity to hear stories of surviving abuse by transgender individuals. Of being beaten severely, at four, for doing nothing more than wearing an oversize t-shirt like a dress. Of living every every moment in constant fear of the next attack. The transgender community is one having the mark of being survivors of wide spread child abuse, that faces assault and murder constantly, and has to face friends killing themselves on a near daily basis. Rob used the "Silent Epidemic" segment to express his rage for what is being done to children outside of our attention. What transgender children have faced may be called a "Silent Holocaust" without too much exaggeration.

This isn't about "selling out," this is about the fact that Rob has been a person who has pointed out how society treats its most vulnerable and how that is largely what makes him hate "people." He also has a deep loathing for willful ignorance. That day he totally betrayed his belief in the former and in his response expressed the later. This is about Rob facing the fact he failed what he believed in the most. The fact he didn't mean to be interpreted as advocating child abuse nor would never abuse a child does not negate that. What we feel are real and legitimate differences with the way the LGBT community went about telling us doesn't negate that either. In the end our beliefs in freedom of speech and that there is "no right to be offended" can't be done the justice they deserve if we allow ourselves to present ourselves as if our opinion allowed the innocence and dignity of children to have an "except when…"
