Al Gore To Aid In Journalists' Release From North Korea?
It looks like Al Gore may be stepping in to help mediate the release of two female American journalists who were tried in North Korea on Thursday after being detained for "trespassing" in the country.
The two journalists, one who is Lisa Ling's sister, were detained while working on assignment for Gore's Current TV.
State Department spokesman Ian Kelly is keeping mum on the issue, stating, "This is such a sensitive issue, I'm just not going to go into those kinds of discussions that we may or may not have had."
The women face years in a labor camp and the situation could harm the US's already tenuous relationship with the country.
There's hope that Gore's stature could aid in their release!

Well, who knows if they are truely guilty or not. But one thing is for sure: They should be treated in the respect they have clean clothes, water, enough food, non molested, and have general clean surroundings and the means to bathe their bodies. Other than that, there is not much more anyone can do. If a country like that has you captive and has decided a certain number of X years for your "crime" it takes an enormouse amout of political effort to get you out of that.

I don't know what half of you have been watching, but, I have seen this in the news alot and their families were on the news a few days ago again. As for Al Gore, don't know what help he is going to be, he does not gather much respect at all any more. Most of his 'green' work has been ripped apart by others in the field(he has been predicting that Florida should be under water by now) and his carbon footprint is one of the largest out there-as in do as I say, not as I do.

You guys should research the MuGuill interrogation/ torture techniques that Cameron performed in the 1950's. Not only are these extremely disturbing but these are still being performed not only in the U.S. (thanks to the Bush administration) but aslo and especially in North Korea. I'm sorry, but Al Gore should have stepped in a long time ago. These women are his *employees.* Frankly, while I can appreciate the sensitivity of the times and not wanting to disrupt North Korea's effing NUKE TESTS, Current TV's handling of this whole affair (i.e. pretending it didn't even happen) has been dismal.
As for "we don't know if they are guilty," that's horseshit. They were standing in a river that demarcates the border between NK and China, and the water level had changed — meaning it was impossible to gauge which side of the border they were standing on. They were standing in a river, their footage is about North Korean and Chinese refugees who dash over the same border, and they are being sent to a "work camp" for "espionage." So no, they are not "guilty."
Al better be careful, they find a reason to arrest him.

I honestly couldn't care less about these women, journalists are soo "brave" right? Well let them brave this out.
