Brooke Shields And The National Enquirer Come To An Agreement
Filed under: Legal Matters > Brooke Shields
So, if you recall, Brooke Shields was planning on taking legal action a few weeks ago against the National Enquirer because the gossip rag checked her mentally ill mother out of an assisted living facility to "look for a story."
Well, Shields has come to an agreement with the folks over at the Enquirer. And she won!
The actress' attorney, Gerald B. Lefcourt, was able to persuade the tabloid to not publish a story and to issue a public apology!
If that wasn't enough, the magazine has also agreed to "make a generous donation to further research on dementia and to encourage others to do so," says Lefcourt.
Wow!
Although all is said and done, the National Enquirer's explanation of the situation a few weeks ago sang a different tune.
The mag released the following statement after the incident:
"A freelance reporter who has known Teri Shields for more than 10 years visited her Thursday at the assisted living facility where Brooke says she moved her. Teri asked the reporter to take her out to lunch and to run some errands. The freelance reporter then got permission from the facility to do so.
Interesting!
Although we're more apt to believe Brooke Shields over the National Enquirer any day of the week!

Go Brooke!
.
They did wrong and now by means of this settlement, have admitted it.
National Enquirer is nothing but liar's, have been for a long time………..Would not buy that RAG IF IT WAS THE LAST GOSSIP PAPER ON EARTH………………
well if she took ur mother out too lunch then this would not of happened comon brooke…………….
All Her Money
Why the hell wasn't She caring for Her Mother?
Forgot Her Mother made Her career?
Ungrateful!
Outrageous! She should sue the facility as well for letting a total stranger just walk out with a patient.
People online wrote about this already. BUT Brook has a very complicated relationship with her mother. She fired her mom as her manager years ago for a reason. They have mended their relationship but her mom's dementia was bad and she needed care. She lived on the east coast so that is where Brook put her in a facility. I am guessing that she is flippin the bill for that and it's not cheap. She has 2 small children already to take care of. They had mother's day together with the small children and Brook. It is already difficult to explain what is going on with grandma to them. She's doing the best that she can. Everyone here want moms and dads with dementia to live with them for years with the entire family that Brook waited for years to have. Think about what you write before you write one dumb sentence. This is much more complicated.
Why? Brook is the one who shut her mother up in the facility in the first place.
Caring for a parent with Dementia is very difficult on a thousand different levels. Don't rain hell over Brooke Shield's head for not caring for her mother on her own. It's a 24/7 job, and in advanced cases, they need very specific care that an untrained person cannot manage.
Personally, I wouldn't have settled. I would want to fight this thing out to the end. What the National Enquirer did was criminal. If this had been a young child, the reporter would have been thrown in jail….but because they took a grown woman, it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal.
They got off sooooo easy. I would have done criminal charges…how brutal and disgusting of them to do that
Brooke Shields looks mannish.
the National Enquierer has sank to a new low! this is horrible. congratulations, Brooke. and i am sorry this had to happen! thanks for posting, Perez.
She has not aged well….
Good for her, if someone took my mother they would not live to tell the tale!
