Elton John Cleans Up The Tony's
Filed under: Broadway Babies > Elton John > Awardz
On Broadway's biggest night, it was Sir Elton John and his lively and moving musical Billy Elliot that was the brightest star. The show garnered 10 wins from the Tony Awards and no one was more humble and gracious than the piano man himself.
"Thank you for accepting us on Broadway," he said. "We came here at a hard time economically. You opened your hearts and you opened your wallets."
Other big wins included Angela Lansbury, who snagged her fifth Tony award for her role in the revival of Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit, the trio of "Billys", young actor's David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish, who will share the award for each portraying Billy Elliot, and the production of Hair that won for Best Musical Revival. Oskar Eustis, head of the Public Theater thanked everyone associated with iconic show, especially the original and revival cast: "These 32 most beautiful beasts of the forests, who not only know what hair stands for but live it every day. … Peace now, freedom now, equality now."

Whenever I see him I always remember him losing it at that airport in Taiwan. He's a very annoying little man.
.
Bravo!
I liked him much better before he was gay and sang rock and roll.
omg doesnt the boy on the right, that Elton has his arm around, look like Sasha Baron cohen's character Bruno!!
I saw Billy Elliot when it first opened. Amazing! Well worth seeing. I felt Elton was robbed in a way because *he* was nominated in a category where he did not win. But the musical that did seemed good, too. And I do remember that Sir Elton, while he can play the byotch, has certain done so much in a philanthropic way. So he's a winner with me!
old and young

So deserved, Billy Elliott is brilliant!!! Elton needs to smile more, he always comes across as a bitter, angry old queen, get the fuck over it girlfriend you got more $$$ than God!! and a fantastic long term career, and every acolade in the industry, lighten up Francis!!
