Bret's Upset With Broadway

Reps for Bret Michaels are fuming at the Tony Awards' reaction (or lack thereof) to a half-ton stage prop coming down on the Rock of Love star's nose!
According to the suits over at the Tonys, Michaels "missed his mark" during Poison's performance at the awards on Sunday night, which led to a ginormous set piece dropping onto Bret's face and fracturing the reality slut's nose.
Janna Elias, rep for Michaels, says:
"With all due respect to everyone working the Tony Awards, somewhere down the line there was a lack of communication and the prop should have been immediately halted until Michaels was clear. Sunday morning at rehearsals, Bret was never informed that the descending set piece existed, let alone would be moving into position as he was exiting the stage.
I find it surprising that a Tony spokesperson would brush off this incident with a comment stating, Mr. Michaels missed his mark,' with no mention of concern for his condition. If everyone at the Tonys were aware that Bret missed his mark, then they should have been aware enough to stop the set piece from hitting him or at least slowed it down until he cleared the stage. I feel had this incident happened to Liza Minneli, Dolly Parton or Elton John, the Tonys would have at least issued a letter of concern."
They do bring up an extremely valid point!
And, hey, at least they're not threatening to sue. YET!
Do U think the Tonys should have been more sympathetic regarding Bret's accident???

Heck ya! They owe him a an apology big time! What if it landed on his head and caused even more serious injuries or death?!?!
NO, I FEEL THAT THE TONY'S DID AMERICA JUSTICE!!! Bret ruined music and metal and poison was never cool except for CeCe Deville. I think Bret's face should have been broken instead. Well I can always hope.
did he not see the huge set piece coming down out of the ceiling.! how could he have missed it…all the hair bleach/weaves have ruined what brain cells that all the drugs in the 80's spared!
Funniest thing i have seen in a long time..he hit the deck..brilliant!
YES, and AM i first?
Hmm……reality slut……..you kinda resemble that remark yourself dontcha Perez????
Definately. Whether he missed his mark or not, they should show some sympathy and concern.
Yep.
i think it was super funny, i laughed my ass off - should i issue an apology too??
He needs to give up the bedazzler
Yes…he clearly was walking towards the back..if he'd known that was coming down don't you think he'd have hustled?
To say he missed his mark is lame.
Someone's going to get fired!
Notice how the other band members (Ce Ce) "hit their marks" by running back as soon as song is finished. It seems Poison was well informed during rehearsal. The professionals in the band knew when their time was up. Bret stayed on stage, acting like an idiot, when he should have been going upstage with the rest of the band. Serves him right.
Bway is dangerous, bitch!
Maybe a little more concern to his injury. He missed his mark and it's a shame an injury resulted. Liza Minneli, Dolly Parton or Elton John are pro's and conduct themselves as such. Michaels was probably eyeballing the crowd for some fresh strange, and thus missed his mark. I believe he was more upset his hat was knocked off and his baldness/hair plugs would come shining through.
He should definately get an apology. Someone gets hurt with a set piece and you apologize, regardless of who it is. Brett Michael's is one of my guilty pleasures. I don't care about Poison, but Rock of Love is hilarious.
Ok was it just me or did he totally get into the lip syncing so much that he just phased it out. Owe him an apology NOT
He didn't MISS HIS FUCKIN MARK!!!
The dumb sonofabitch couldn't get his ass off the stage. He was hamming it up for a few more seconds of the 'afterglow'…and VOILA! He slams his dome on a prop, IMPECCABLY timed, might I ADD.
CC Deville probably sits at home running the tape back…I know I can't stop.
I definitely think they handled it poorly. Brett Michaels came out in support for the TONYs and thats how they treat him? Thats HORRIBLE. Whether you like Brett or not, is not the issue. He's a great guy that supports his industry and deserves MORE than that!! No wonder so many people turn their backs in the business, look how they treat the Artist who actually give a rat's ass! I saw BOOOOO to the TONY execs.
This is true and any theatre stage manager and crew should know it! Performers should always be made aware of flying set pieces (wasn't there a rehearsal?) and the stage manager should make sure (via the ASM) that a performer gets to their mark BEFORE calling a fly cue.
I don't think anyone would have cared if Liza Minneli got hit by a set piece.
Um yeah!! I would be totally pissed if they didn't care about my well being after an accident like that!! My dad went through similar circumstances when 3 tons of glass almost killed him on a job site in MI. He was in the hospital for 2 weeks, far from his family and on Christmas no less. The company that took the blame for the accident didn't even check to see of my father was okay and didn't even send him a card or anything! So my Dad decided to sue and he got a huge settlement! If they had just showed a little care for my father he wouldn't have sued! People's feelings count!
Brett Michaels is a freaking idiot. If you watch the show, you can clearly see him grandstanding for more attention while the entire band makes it to their mark. He is lucky all that got hurt really was his ego. He is very lucky that his weave stayed in place
Re: allycat – who cares? Did he call Bart Durham or some other ambulance chaser?
Has nothing to do with Bret's affliction, LSD.
(That's Lead Singer Disease)- It prevents you from getting the hell out of the way of props that weigh 'half a ton'… Give me a break, if it were styrofoam-would anyone freakin' care!??!
Really? You'd think the Tony's would be more professional when it comes to execution. I believe them when they say he didn't make his mark because really? what benefit would it be to NOT tell them that a large set piece is coming down at the end of their number (it should also be partially on the performer to ask pertinent questions like 'where do we exit after our number?' if they are unsure so as to have an answer provided like 'well a huge set piece will drop from the ceiling and you will be blocked from the audience and can leave') Granted they had such professional moves as someone talking into a live hand mic during the Guy's& Dolls eff up so who knows!
That type of accident should never have had happened. What if it was one of the older rock ledgends, it could have killed them on the spot. I think Bret should be finacially compensated, and the person in charge of prop timing fired.
I have No picture and no proof of a broken nose…
I'm just sayin…
when the thing hit him…
he just kept walking - didn't look like he was even phased.
YOu'd think getting a broken nose on tv should get a response…
unless he was numb with cocain?lol
I Like some of their songs and his voice is amazing
but what a crappy
example his band has set over the years.lol.
FUCK BRET MICHAELS HE'S A HAS BEEN LOSER WHO WEARS TOO MUCH FUCKING MAKEUP!!!
Re: Birdygirl – BULLSHIT!
No! He had it coming for doing that trashy ass show, and polluting the world with what he loosely calls "music". I watched the clip 20 times and it's still HILARIOUS!!!
It was his own fault - the rest of the band obviously knew in advance to get behind the set piece after the song… but he was too busy being an attention whore and skipping around the stage.
HAS-BEEN
I was at the Tony dress rehearsal. He knew full well that there was a giant set piece coming in. They were told it was very important to get back to their marks before the piece came in– he did it perfectly fine in rehearsal. He was basking in the applause rather than getting to his place, and then realized he needed to go, turned around and ran, but it was too late.
On the same note, during rehearsal Liza Minnelli wasn't sure where to go after her number and almost got taken out by the set piece coming in, but two stage hands rushed on to pull her out of the way. Let me tell you, she didn't make that mistake twice.
I think he's just too ashamed to admit he was being stupid.
It may have been hilarious but they could atleast apologize.
Liza nor Elton would make that mistake as people in the theater will tell you…….if you aren't paying attention and miss your mark it's on you to get your ass out of the way. I think the Tony's owe us an apology for not killing the tool with the fly in.
Serious note yes! They're lucky he's alive. That 1/2 ton thing almost landed on his head. I'ls sue the shit out out of them. Funny note…was fuckin funny as hell
Re: jennjenn2232 – Bingo. The man sustained a serious injury. They're just asking for a lawsuit by showing this guy such contempt.
Bret is a big lot of nothing. He's a 48 year old bald man with a long blonde wig and a penchant for girls half his age. He was NEVER popular and neither was Poison. Now that he's exhausted his chances in reality television, he's gone back to zero. In this case, he MISSED his mark. All of the stage equipment is run by a computer and timed. It's HIS MISTAKE folks-not theirs. He's a stupid ass and made a sizable mistake. Let's have some responsiblity on his part here. P.S. I don't care about his nose either….
It's not their fault he's an idiot and wasn't looking where he was going.
The only thing they are at fault for is having Poison perform at the Tonys in the first place. Why don't they just ask the audience in attendance to scrape the side of their face with a cheese grater?
I think an apologize implies accepting responsibility…unless they just say"Sorry that you caused this to happen to yourself". Otherwise, yes, possible lawsuit. He is a singer.Nasal fractures can effect his "sound", temporarily or permanently. And it sounds like he'd have a good case.
when would Liza, Dolly or Elton miss their mark? He's a performer, he should know better.
.
I smell a huge lawsuit brewing ..
apologize and get it over with…
They owe him a huge apology!
Sure it was funny, but he could've been seriously hurt.
If Brett Michaels is smart, he'll sue. It wouldn't be that serious,
if they had just apologized but they blamed him?!
(:
Here's the thing -
I'm an actor. I've been on professional tours. And I've been smacked in the face with set pieces and flys. It happens… especially if you're being arrogant/oblivious and miss your mark. it was his own damn fault.
pooooor Bret, now he'll need another nose job :/
this ass wipe deserved to be knocked off his pedastal…the difference between him and those names besides obvious talent is they actually belong at the tonys. maybe if it was the tacky slutty redneck douchbag awards he wouldve deserved an apology…who gives a shit
no . . . you could tell that CC and Bobby (butt-ugly bass player) were getting out of the way and Bret was out front still taking in being at the Tony's - he then started to go back, way after he finished singing and bam - i was happy it happed, although I love Poison
hehhee
Advice: If something huge is falling towards your face… GET OUT THE WAY. What an idiot.
relaity whore or not….he didn't deserve that and the tony reps should issue a proper apology.
Yes they should have offered to pay for his injuries, and then both parties shut the fuck up about it, and NO it is never funny when someone is hurt, for fucks sake have some compassion you tool
Insider info Perez: My friend who attended the final dress rehearsal for the Tony's said Bret was a no-show. They used a stand-in. Liza same to final dress. Bret was…to busy? His rep ain't being truthful.
On the other hand, I think an apology would be in order. He was injured. End of story. How or why…well, it's interesting that he didn't rehearse, but accidents happen.
Re: prettify – Yeah. He should sue his cowboy hat.
First of all he looked like crapthat night I didn't even know he was the real Bret at first and then I really thought he did it on purpose. It looked like a joke. Then we find out that he broke his nose.
When people say they should have stopped the large prop there are alot of factors in stop it. Even if they tried it probibly would have still hit him.
But I agree with the Tony's and them only sayinghe missed his mark. He's a rocker and any chance you take on them is huge. They had to have talked to him about the props and all. Theatre people don't usually throw you into an unknow situation.
If he wasn't hamming it up he would have made it.
Also…why didn't he duck…i think that is the most important question?
I think a techie should get a Tony for clotheslining his dumb ass.
depends on how he acted there –
Yeah the Tony spokes person brushed in the incident aside because no one gives a shit about Bret's condition….mmmkay?!?!!
And the key phrase is "Sunday morning at rehearsals." This is why they have rehearsals…..so that everybody knows where to go, where to stand, when to come on and exit. It's unfortunate that this happened to him, but the Tony people are right…he missed the mark….and that is why they have rehearsals…so shiz like this doesn't happen. Plus, all that scenery was probably on a timer. It probably couldn'tve been stopped anyway.
they should have dropped a piano on him instead like in a cartoon. that would have been funnier.
Please.. like anyone gives a shit about him..
Sympathetic, possibly. But did they do anything wrong? NO! Theater people all know that props are always coming down from above, or the side, or even the floor. For each set change, performers are given a mark to make sure they aren't hit. So hit your mark or get hit!! The show must go on……no stopping because someone is an idiot and didn't adhere to the instructions.
Ok, they should have apologized but did he not see it descending from the sky??? If he didn't take his sweet time sauntering back then he would have gotten through in plenty of time like the others.
I've never heard of this stupid fuck in my life!
That shit was hilarious, I cracked up so hard. It was like watching a real life re-enactment of the wicked witch of the west.
Brett was at fault, his band hustled their way back to the mark but he was hamming it up and acting like he was the big shit…soooo he suffered for it.
When someone tells you to leave the stage douche, leave the stage.
Somewhere along the line personal responsibility has to come in. How could you not see a set piece that big! He walked into it….they didn't lower it onto him.
Quit your bitchin' Bret….geeze.
I heard from someone in Hair AND someone in Rock Of Ages that he was not on stage during the Tony rehearsal… he had a stand in! MAybe if he would have walked though the number like everyone else he wouldn't have gotten hit!
LMFAO GET THE FUCK OUT DOUCHE!
If Will Swenson had taken a header when he was jumping off the stage, or if Gavin Creel had fallen off those armrests he was standing on, both during Hair's incredible performance later in the evening, you wouldn't hear either of them whining about how the Tony's didn't show them any concern. When you're a performer, you take the risk of being injured, whether you're a rockstar being overpaid or a theatre actor working 8 shows a week. Maybe if Bret hadn't been seeking so much validation from a crowd that was certainly not his type, he would have made it back in time to not get hit in the head. Moron.
wah
jeez he fell over on stage
real rock stars do it all the time then get up and finish the gig
get over it you big baby
UM THE PEOPLE SAYING ITS FUNNY HE GOT HURT ARE DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CHRIS BROWN DESERVES THAT, NOT BRETT, HE SEEMS REALLY NICE AND DOWN TO EARTH. SO WHAT IF HE IS A FAME WHORE, ATLEAST HES INVOLVED IN CHILDRENS CHARITYS AND HAS A GOOD HEART WTF CHILL PEOPLE
There is no way that it wasn't mentioned during the dress rehearsal. Everyone else knew about it. You can clearly see that he was being a "rock star" and playing up to the audience (a no-no in a theater performance) after his time was up and had complete disregard for the show and theater rules. It is not as easy as his publicist is claiming to stop a drop. He should have met his mark.
No, his bandmates obviously knew they had to get out of there quick.
Bret should have known to get to his mark on time. They should have been reminded in rehearsals that there will be large set pieces moving, and it would be dangerous if you didn't get there in time. In my opinion, if he weren't so interested in "working the crowd", he wouldn't have had that problem. This is why rock stars should never take the place of a professional stage actor. I don't think he would have to get an apology from the stage crew or even the producers for something he should have done right in the first place. If they warned him ahead of time (I work in a professional theatre, they do warn people, actors and crew alike) they shouldn't have to bend over backwards to cover their own asses like he expects them to.
This is how it happens in Theater. You miss your mark, something bad could happen.
hmmm i think the whole thing about him not knowing is bull… because the rehersals are on youtube and he made it in time before the curtain thing fell. So he practiced getting in, so he knew the thing was going to close.
Plus, like it was mentioned in a post before me; all his bandmates got out of there quick. He didn't because he stayed enjoying the moment when the crowd cheered -_- I guess that doesn't happen much with him lately.
YOU GO JANNA!! I love her so much.
Um, if you miss your cue, then thats YOUR fault, not the stagehands. The people backstage have a lot more to worry about then some asshole basking in applause, and missing his cue. And Bret Michales is a fucking toolbox anyway
this is broadway mr.michaels, your priorities in a show are as follows: 1. hit your mark, 2. turn your lights on, 3. get the steps right
:( (((((hugs))))) Brett
Who cares. He didn't see that GIANT piece coming down, too bad, probably was staring at his reflection somewhere or looking for the next Skank of Love backstage. get over it bret, big baby
