It's probably some sort of PR stunt for the show "It's always Sunny in Philadelphia", the cast is right behind him. the new season starts in september so they are probably trying to get as much press and exposure as possible….

He was sober. He was just having fun. He was at work doing scenes, for God's sake. The beer was likely part of the scene the interviewing crew interrupted.
