He has been struggling to pay his mortgage for quite some time now and has finally lost the battle, owing $644,000 to the bank.
Now, his house will be auctioned off at the end of the month, unless he can come up with a heaping bundle of cash very quickly.
Hey, didn't he just win a settlement? Where's that money at?

I just don't understand why the hell would he continue to delude himself in living there when he can afford to live in a smaller and more ecomonic home without the fear of eviction ringing in his ears…

Ed lost millions to fish. Why is it that these men end up paying so much money to icky stinky fish? Yuck! We think their problem is 'tinymeat'. Take Woody Allen - older than dirt and uglier than sin but said to be horse-hung - Woody gets plenty of young reasonably hot fish and he never has to pay anything!
Medical Malpractice in Calif is capped at $250K, so it is likely that he only got about $100K, if that. This is a HUGE problem in Calif as lawyers won't take med mal cases (unless there is a death) because they can't make money.
