Hermes Breeds Crocodiles For Bags!!

Filed under: Fashion Smashion > Sad Sad

In order to meet the demand for their leather bags, Hermes has succumbed to breeding crocodiles on Australian farms for the sole purpose of becoming accessories!!!

Yikes!

Customers have been known to wait for years for Hermes bags which can cost up to $50,000!!!

Outrageous!!

"It can take three to four crocodiles to make one of our bags so we are now breeding our own crocodiles on our own farms, mainly in Australia," says Patrick Thomas, chief executive of the luxury line. "Hermes already faces a major challenge producing 3,000 crocodile bags a year. The world is not full of crocodiles, except the stock exchange!"

Oh, he's a riot!

What does PETA have to say about this???

I'm very far from one of those PETA nuts, but this crocodile thing is shameful! Anyone who carries around one of those bags should be embarrassed and publicly mocked. And paying 50K for a purse is obscene.

    2. 102

oh my god! this is horrible. just disgusting.

    3. 103

disgusting. soo soo disgusting anyone who has one of these bags should be ashamed

    4. 104

Wow. That's pretty disturbing. Not that I can afford a $50k bag, but hearing this, I'm not sorry I can't have one. Screw that!!! Hopefully, they at least use the crocodile meat to feed the poor while they are at it … Sick bastards.

    5. 105

Why would they breed crocs when there are thousands of starving Malaysian children with beautiful skin that would make perfectly acceptable bags.

    6. 106

Why would they breed crocs when there are thousands of starving Malaysian children with beautiful skin that would make respectable bags.

    7. 107

I bet VicWhoria "Concrete Boobs" Beckham is funding the farm. How many Hermes bag do you think she has???

    8. 108

That is effing sick. I HATE gators/crocs whatever, and I still think that is horrific, people wake up and stop being heartless towards animals! Defense is one thing when necessary, but we're so twisted that we're breeding them for effing fashion? Why!!

    9. 109

      That's disgusting.
Breeding animals for the sole purpose of turning them into hand bags shouldn't be allowed.

    10. 110

But Perez, all the celebs you love to write about carry Hermes croc Birkins. I wouldn't pee in the handbag that feeds you!

    11. 111

This is CRAP. If they decide to have a humane farm that raises crocodile meat and then uses the skin as an aside, then okay. I don't eat meat because I don't like how animals are treated prior to being eaten in industrialized nations. Using animals just for fashion is not acceptable. It's not like they are even making clothing that benefits from being made from a crocodile. A purse can be made from anything.

    12. 112

Most people are fucked up. I hope there's a special place in Hell where anyone who would do this to an animal or wear these animals will go through EXACTLY the pain and fear that these creatures had to endure.
Think about it…how would you like it? Doesn't make sense does it?

    13. 113

      gross

    14. 114

Steve Irwin would be rolling over in his grave right now.

    15. 115

i think one of the reasons many of the people leaving the comments are you perez, are so upset at the fact that hermes is doing this is because its an animal that can kill you.

no one gave a crap that hermes was doing this shit in this first place, but now that they are making MORE potentially dangerous animals everyone gets their panties in a bunch.

i think what most people are concerned about is their safety. you know, like what would happen if the crocodiles somehow escaped an went on a fucking killing spree.

people breed puppies, to sell to greedy people for hundreds of dollars. is that any different that hermes breeding crocs, to sell to greedy people, for thousands of dollars?

      you be the judge.

    16. 116

      awful

    17. 117

i want one girl i need me a hermes bag so bad perez can you buy me one gurl im poor:)

    18. 118

I have three REAL hermes bags and i love them all, 2 crocodile and 1 python!!

    19. 119

I just hope that their conditions are good prior to their deaths and that their deaths are humane (unlike clubbing seals or electrocuting minks).

Re: TLG – Dumbass people have been raping women legally and beating their wives and children without batting an eye for thousands of years. So now just because we have the good sense to realize that's bad we're suddenly idiots.
      Jackass talking.

    21. 121

THIS IS FUCKING HORRIBLE! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!! When will people come to their senses and realize that shit like this IS-FUCKING-WRONG! There is a special place in hell reserved for people like this. Your gonna have to answer to someone sooner or later bitches!

    22. 122

Anybody who pays upwards of $50,000.00 for a STUPID BEVERLY HILLS HANGBAG need to have their heads "examined", seriously. CHIC IS CHIC, but this is going WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too FAR !

    23. 123

Re: knobgobbler – Your name says it all…..

    24. 124

They do tours up in Cairns (QLD, Australia) for these crocodile farms. Crocodiles aren't an endangered species in Australia. especially up north where the farms are. the farm I went to specifically catered to Gucci and Prada amongst many other high fashion houses. it's been going on for DECADES. why is this news?

    25. 125

Re: OperAsh – YOUR NOT FUNNY…

    26. 126

its better that they farm crocodiles than catch them in the wild!

    27. 127

      Fuck Hermes

    28. NIZ says – reply to this

      128

Why NOT farm exotic animals? It would stop poaching!!! the lions and tigers and the elephants wouldn't be endangered any more because there would an abundance of "farmed" animals. People will ALWAYS buy ivory, fur coats, tiger paws, so why not save our animals and farm them. Do we have a shortage of cows or sheep? NO, because they are farmed!

    29. 129

what??!! is this guy serious? this has to be a sick joke. He's actually got the fucking nerve to boast that they simply don't have enough crocodiles to meet demand?
Great idea, lets wipe out a prehistoric creature so that rich fucking losers can parade around with a piece of skin hanging off their arm. What a twisted sick world we live in, when people would gladly pay a years wage for that shit!!!

    30. 130

Anyone who spends $50,000 or even close to that on a handbag is in need of some major psychiatric help. That money can take care of dying people on this fucking planet. Want a nice bag? Go get a Marc Jacobs at Bloomingdales for a fraction of that. That's just a matter of "I have so much money I don't know what to do with it all so if I buy a $50K handbag, I'm a better person and my life will be better and I will be happier, etc. etc."

    31. 131

this is fucked up! i am physically sik! how bout we breed people, skin em & wear them out to our next dinner date! FUCKED UP, isnt there sum law out there to stop this messed up shit?????

    32. 132

Re: TLG – who the fuk do u think u r??? get ur head out of ur ass, people dont mean shit, animals do..GET IT?!

    33. 133

This is disgusting! How can the world have gotten so superficial that they breed animals for the sake of flaunting around on their shoulder! It is one thing breeding for food, and even that is disturbing when considering the torturous conditions the animals are subjected to - but fashion!
      This should be illegal.

    34. 134

how is this any different from having a farm of sheep for cashmere? at least they're not going out there harvesting endangered crocodile species for handbags.

    35. 135

awesome it can go with my baby seal mittens

    36. 136

What would PETA say? What about Steve Irwin - he would be rolling in his grave - how terrible is this. I hope PETA gets on to protesting this practice.

    37. 137

This is a symptom of the demand for animal products, not a problem in itself. This is actually a BETTER solution to the problem of destroying the ecosystem by using wild crocodiles. This won't lead to eventual extinction. BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT SOMETHING, FIGURE OUT IF IT IS BETTER THAN THE ALTERNATIVES! Of course it would be better if people were all disgusted by the use of animal products, but the demand is there, and it's big. This is a realistic way to meet the demands WITHOUT DESTROYING THE PLANET. BE RESPONSIBLE PEREZ.

    38. 138

Makes me not want croc…sad :(

    39. 139

I am not saying that I would ever buy a croc bag, or whatever, but I do know that croc farming, is a big deal in Australia - kinda like any other form of farming…..like Beef in the USA.
Of course, there is not so much demand as mainstream animals, but I do know that you can buy croc meat here - yes, to EAT……like all the other little critters that die for your dinner.
I am not a vegan or a vegetarian (and i do not judge anyones' views), but from what I've read - neither are a lot of the readers - SO, where is the difference in farming and killing the croc for its meat and the purse, and the killing of a sheep for their meat and the sheepskin for your ugg boots?? hmmm, Pammy Anderson??!! yah - thought so……
