It's Back! Swine Flu Declared Official Pandemic

The World Health Organization has declared swine flu an official pandemic and the alert level was raised from Phase 5 to 6 on Thursday.
Phase 6 is WHO's highest alert level and means that a swine flu pandemic is under way but there is no need to panic as most cases are mild and require no treatment.
This is the first global flu epidemic in 41 years and infections have climbed in the United States, Europe, Australia, South America and elsewhere.
No mutations have been detected in the virus to show it is getting more deadly, so the fear is that new infections could overwhelm hospitals and health authorities, especially in poorer countries.
WHO reported 27,737 cases including 141 deaths so far!!!
The last pandemic, the Hong Kong flu of 1968, killed about 1 million people and the average flu kills about 250,000 to 500,000 people each year.
In May, several countries pushed the World Health Organization not to declare a pandemic because they feared it would spark mass panic.
Pharmaceutical companies need to hurry up with the vaccine while not trying to price gauge the poor!!!!

This version of swine flu doesn't concern me. The true test will come in the fall, as I think there's more of a chance of mutation happening by then.

I had the swine flu, I live in MA and the state lab never called us about m results so we thought it was just a really bad flu so we didn't do anything and because we didn't do anything the wine flu turned into pneumonia and I got Asthema for the first time ever,
they don't have a vacine yet but they do give you a medication called Tamiflu which they also give you when you have a really bad case of flu or if you are surrounded by poeple with the flu
like the normal flu its not deadly but it can cause other problems which CAN be deadly if you don't do anything about it

population control. not to sound inconsiderate, but we have 6 billion people on this earth and growing. things like this, natural disasters, its all needed to keep things in order. i want kids so bad but i wrestle with the fact that there is not enough room to grow the food we need, that every person has their own daily impact on the earth and the ozone. if not for tsunamis, earthquake, pandemics and even war (altho i HATE to admit it), our population would be over 10 billion!! think about it

Great…I work in the ER of a major metro hospital and let me tell you every single time someone mentions the flu our ER fills up to capacity. If you have a little cough, that doesn't mean you have the swine flu. People, please if you aren't really, really sick, stay the hell home!!! And if you are, wear a mask and don't get other people sick.

Ok im a virology student and have actually spent a year working in the WHO influenza lab in mill hill. Although swine flu is a slight concern for the young and old or those who have compromised immune systems it still is not a reason to panic! It can be treated and is very unlikely to be fatal. Its no more worrying than the normal flu we get every year. The media is just going crazy because of the whole zoonosis issue and making it out to be the nexr HIV.

The Swine Flu is being over exaggerated by the media. My roommate as well as another friend both had it. Their symptoms were no worse than the regular flu. Both went on medication and were back to normal in a weeks time. I staying in the apartment the entire time my roommate was sick and never got sick myself. This is a stupid thing to worry about, everyone needs to chill!

There is no reason to panic about the swine flu. Read the article folks, 141 deaths from swine flu compared to 250,000 - 500,000 deaths per year from the plain old flu. The folks who have died from the swine flu in the U.S. have ALL had lifelong, serious, chronic illnesses. If you are a reasonably healthy person in America you are NOT going to die from this.
Use the common sense that God gave you:
Wash your hands often, sneeze and cough into your sleeve or a tissue, try to stay away from those who already have the flu, eat more healthy foods and less junk food, drink plenty of water and get enough sleep each night. It's not rocket science…

In Australia (where apparently this illness is rather rampant) 1200 people die every year of the 'regular' flu. Not one person has died of the swine flu. There is nothing scary about the swine flu except its name. People really need to calm the fark down about this.

and a bunch of other people are still waiting for their tests to get back. like, twenty kids or so.
