John Travolta Acknowledges His Son's Autism

johntrav1.jpg

In a new development, reports are coming in revealing that official documents concerning the death of John Travolta's young son, Jett, confirm that the boy suffered from autism.

In fact, the report has John himself using the terminology, which is against the beliefs of Scientology.

Within the religion, there are rules concerning the practice of medicine, particularly ailments that are considered psychiatric diagnoses, such as autism. Scientoligists believe that diseases such as this are "fake" and rather than seeking medical treatment, practitioners are advised to stick to a Scientological detoxification regime.

There is no word yet if there will be a backlash against the actor for acknowledging his son's autism, but as a high-profile Scientoligist, it is bound to send a stir in the community.

Scientologists are all retarded in one way, shape, or form.

  2. 2

    JOHN WE LOVE YOU!
    .
YOU WILL BE SO SUPPORTED! THE WORLD WILL FLOCK TO YOUR MOVIES AGAIN! YOU ARE SO TALENTED! FOLLOW YOUR HEART.
    .
    DO IT.

you can't detoxify an autistic person. that's a joke! scientology is going to be something we all look back and laugh about, because it's the "Family" cult of our generation. this nonsense is laughable!

  4. 4

If any Scientologists speak out against Travolta over acknowledging his son's autism, there should be hell to pay. Nobody in their right mind you dare say shit about it, given the tragedy.

  5. 5

Poor guy, why can't the scientology community leave him alone and let him grieve his late son?

  6. 6

They should be in just as much trouble as the people that denied chemo for their child with cancer. I'm not saying one is right and one wrong but its in the same ball park.

  7. 7

good for him to speak the truth, who cares what the church of scientology will say

  8. 8

How sad a story. Jet and the Travolta family dealt with the many challenges of autism. I would hope John and his family continue to be most loyal to Jet and become advocates for the many who do suffer from autism and other mental illnesses. I dare any one of the members of that organization to state otherwise.

God bless Jet and all those that suffer silently.

  9. 9

scientology fucking blows. what a charade. what a maroon. what a fucking joke that is…… scientology.
what moron invented that shit? i bed he was on LSD or something. Looking into outer space he decided the leader would be an alien king lmao. That religion is the same as those people who think the SUN is God and must be worshiped and followed because it is the provider of all life on earth. PSSHAHAHAH my goodness.

i feel bad for Johnny T. but — his religion should not weigh heavily on these issues — it is a joke anyway. maybe he is realizing that.

  10. 10

If he had bothered to acknowledge it sooner, they might not have killed him. Oh, well . . .

  11. 11

I really dont mean this in a bad way, but perhaps this was God teaching you a lesson. That autism is real and not fake as your religion says it is. that people with autism need medicine and if they dont get it they can die as your son did. Perhaps you will now look at your religion different for it is your religion that has taken your son from you. Very sad

  12. 12

Should have treated the poor boys condition seriously instead of listening to some wacky religion concored by a science fiction writer.

  13. 13

    FUCK XENU!! >:-@

  14. 14

Well if this is true, then I have gained a few ounces of respect for him and his family. If they can seperate themselves from this kooked out "religion" for even half a second and take the time to recognise that it is possible they made a mistake, kudos to them. I feel awful though that it would take something of this magnitude to jolt them out of their alien worship and back into reality. But like I said, if this is true then He is a bigger man than I thought.

  15. 15

MY HEART GOES OUT TO JOHN TRAVOLTA AND HIS FAMILY!
    SO SAD!

  16. 16

I do not understand why people think that it was John Travolta's "duty" to tell anyone what his son's condition was? Maybe he didn't "acknowledge" it because he wanted for his son to have privacy. Not everyone needs to be the spokesperson for something. Not everyone deals with their personal issues in the public eye. It could be Mr. Travolta and his family always acknowledged and dealt with Jett as a child with autism but no one knew it because they kept it within their own family, which is their right.

My heartfelt and most sincere sympathy goes to this family who are understandably and having a very difficult time with their child's death. They obviously loved Jett a great deal despite his diagnosis and challenges he faced living with autism.

  17. 17

    .
    Good for you, John.
I can imagine that talking openly about your son's autism helps you deal with his untimely death.
    .
I find it so strange that the philosophy of Scientology is to DENY that serious illnesses such as autism exist.
    .
How horrible (& unrealistic) for families struggling with devastating disorders.

  18. 18

scientology is a joke religion. they dont know shit about medicine and if he would have realized this sooner, he might have still been here. i hope he leaves that cult.

  19. 19

    Re: JuneGordon

    Amen.

  20. 20

I read a story about how Kelly preston is the one who is more involved with scientology and Jt wanted out a long time ago

  21. 21

I'm glad JT is 'waking up' and finally telling the truth about his son's autism. It is not something to be ashamed about. It is a simple…sometimes sad…fact of life.

That loser Evil $pace Alien Mind Control CULT is not your friend, JT.

Hopefully, the death of your beloved son may have created some good in this world.

Maybe now you will see the Evil $pace Alien Mind Control Cult for what it is…and has been…all along.

    $CIENTOLOGY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND.

    God Bless you, JT.

  22. 22

Scientology is a crazy cult full of greedy morons.

  23. 23

Well, all it took was the death of his son. It should've come way sooner.

  24. 24

John Travolta and Kelly Preston were never under any obligation to publicly announce their son's autism. This sounds like a battle they've fought for years, and wanted their privacy throughout. God bless them.

  25. 25

His son might be alive today, if they had treated him with medical science instead of superstition and silly religion.

  26. 26

Love John Travolta but I wish he would leave Scientology. It makes him seen kooky. They only use him for his money. They are corrupt and evil.

  27. 27

Uneduated people think if you belong to a religion you are 100 percent indoctirnated. Not true. Just like a political party, a marriage, a relationship, a company you work for. No ONE is 100% indoctirnated except extremeists! If you belong to a charity or work for it you probably haven't read all the manuscripts and aren't quite aware of every ideal. If you are it doesn't mean you subscribe to all of it. Get real.

  28. 28

i would have IMMENSE respect for travolta if he were to come out and admit that autism is a syndrome that requires medical care. i hope he is able to defeat the sick stranglehold of the TOXIC CULT that is scientology. his family deserves better than that.

  29. 29

Democrat or republican if you believe in every aspect I'd have to say you don't have a mind of your own. We take and curtail our friendships, organizations to find what we agree on, not what we disagree on.

  30. 30

I am an advocate for mental illness because my brother suffers from schizophrenia. I can tell all of you that mental illness will humble you to the point of emotional distress. You will feel the stigma and intense helplessness that comes with all mental illness. My heart goes out to John but I was a bit upset when he did not seem to admit that his son had the illness when he died. I know John's brother is very outspoken about this. For any of you interested, you can learn what it is like to have schizophrenia at my website (gaining-insight.com/paintings.php). After you listen and watch this 15 minute show, tell me how you view the illness. I would love to hear from you!

  31. 31

That's why the Miss America Organization not letting people have an opinion, yes that's what started the ball rolling, is absurd. NO one is going to agree on everything.

  32. 32

The autism argument is not new, it's the nature vs. nurture argument that's been around forever.

  33. 33

    Re: Iheart420
i wonder just how many public figures that still "support" scientology do so out of fear and wish that they could come out and tell the truth about this sick cult. i think scientology extorts these celebrities and threatens them with all sorts of retaliation. i hope someday this fake religion is fully and completely exposed and destroyed. i fear to think how many lives they have destroyed over the years.

    34

This is so sad. Nobody should be made to be a "poster child" for any cause. My own son has Autism…and I'm very open about it. But this is my choice. If I wanted to keep his diagnosis a secret and say that he suffered from something else…this would be my right. I feel so badly that he had to struggle against the media to keep his son's condition a secret for so long. My heart goes out to him. Autism sucks.

  35. 35

Tons of people try natural medicine, not just scientologists.

  36. 36

Scientology is a joke and anyone who believes in it has zero credibility.

  37. 37

Does anyone know for a fact what he did or didn't do for his son? Only him and his wife know for sure. Speculation…

  38. KJB says – reply to this

    38

Good for John Travolta. I admire him for this admission. My heart breaks for this family's loss.

  39. 39

    Don't drink the Kool-Aid John.

  40. 40

    WAY TO GO, JOHN!

  41. 6one9 says – reply to this

    41

RELIGION IS THE ROOT TO ALL EVIL IMO!!!!!!!!! NOTHING BUT HYPOCRITES!!

  42. 42

If he does come out with this then I will finally have a shred of respect for him. He may not be able to help his son now but it may help other families seek help for their kids.

  43. 43

This is good for John to accept the word "Autism" - perhaps Scientology needs to change its own terminology as it pertains to these types of disorders and include this word within their writings - number one million was reached today in the English language perhaps this religion can gain some respect and make a decision to include this word within their teachings too. Thinking still of the Travolata family during this difficult time .

  44. 44

    Re: aaabbbccc
    .
    # 38: You are right .. we don't know what treatments or medicines
Jett Travolta had .. or didn't have.
But, what we DO know is that Scientology denies the existence of
serious disorders. SO WRONG .. SO POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS

  45. 45

    scientology is insane

  46. 46

    Re: insight – Insight:

I respect the fact that you are an advocate for people with mental illness, and know that I do not wish to refocus the points you make in your comments, but you need to understand that autism is not, in itself, a mental illness. It is a medical condition, whether hereditary, congenital or environmentally based, but it is NOT a mental illness in and of itself.

While mental illness can result from autism, as it can from other traumatic life events, autism and mental illness do not go hand in hand. And, to make it even more complex, autism can mimic mental illness when the autistic person has no method of effective communication, no supports, has a sensory system so fractured that it leaves the person completely incapable of making sense of his or her environment(s).

  47. 47

IF this is true than I wish John and Kelly all the best and respect their courage to finally acknowledge what seemed obvious. I hope they find some peace in doing this and finally honouring the truth about thier beautiful son who was kept hidden and denied his own truth (and treatment?) based on some misguided, controlling quasi religous sect. I hope he finds the courage to leave scientology even if it costs him some friends knowing Jett will always love him know matter what.

  48. 48

Perhaps the scientologists accidently killed Jett as they were trying to detoxify him! Maybe that is why there was all the mystery and John can't get over it because of the remorse he may feel. I remember reading about a member who was killed in a weird way as the scientolonuts tried to save the woman from a psychological ailment.

  49. 49

As the parent of an autistic teenager, whether I share that information or not is based on whether my son gives me his permission first, or not.

When the information is shared, it's always with the desire to educate those not involved with autism on a personal or professional level.

Autism is a medical condition that affects (1 in 94 boys) 1 in 150 people in every community, regardless of race, gender, financial success or failure, religion, education, employment, etc. Autism hi-jacks the life of the person diagnosed as such as it does the family who supports him or her. It alters your reality and rewrites the rules of society, how you participate and how you live.

While no one demands that celebrities speak out on issues such as autism, their celebrity can focus attention and assist others in fighting for research, educational reform, insurance benefits, legal assistance, social justice. I admire the Travoltas for speaking as they have. It is not my desire to solicit their help or support in my endeavors as an advocate for my son.

  50. 50

    it's about time

seriously they are a disturbing cult

  51. 51

Re: Margeaux – I agree that they are different and I apologize for lumping them together but whatever label you want to give it, they both have a lot in common. The stigma, family impact, etc…Trust me, the one thing that is different…you grow up with along side someone (for 23 years) who you can talk to and laugh with. Then when mental illness strikes, you loose part of that person. Like part of them died. You visit him in a state hospital where he claims you are not his sister. You see him survive through three failed suicide attempts. My heart goes out to ANYONE with mental illnesss, autism or whatever you want to call it. In either situation, your heart and mind will be put to the test.

  52. 52

$cientology conducts inquisitions concerning the most personal and intimate details of a person's life including sexual escapades, fantasies, tendencies, behaviors, yearnings, leanings, habits, etc.

There are permanent audio, video and/or printed PERMANENT records of all revelations by CULT members that may be used for BLACKMAIL later should a CULT member wake up and decide to leave the CULT.

JT, don't let this potential blackmail control you.

    Escape while you can.

It has already cost you and your family the DEATH OF A CHILD.

It can only get worse from here.

Why continue to be used by the CULT to lure more people to their doom in this Evil $pace Alien Mind Control CULT?

    Karma is real, JT.

    Do the right thing.

Get out and warn others about this very dangerous Evil $pace Alien Mind Control CULT.

    Jason Beghe woke up.

    You can too.

God Bless you and your family, JT.

    Re: InvalidUserName

No, but they had a moral duty and responsibility, as his parents, to get him the medical attention he NEEDED. Their cult told them not to and even their own "detoxification" program didn't work.

  54. 54

It's sad and tough when a religion's beliefs conflict with the real world. Look at the Catholic church and the abuse scandals. That being said, he should just mourn his poor son, fuck his wife's brains out, then get on with life. It's all just a big fuck fest anyway–you know–just trying to propogate the species.

  55. 55

im so sorry for their loss. i cant imagine the pain. saying prayers for them.

  56. 56

Friggin' Scientologist b.s… so sick of hearing about these whackos and their bizarre "religion" or whatever you call it!!

  57. 57

Too little, too late. Looks like John Travolta is finally admitting to himself that he was wrong about the way he handled his son and that it cost him his life and now he has to live with that guilt. The whole time Jett was alive, Travolta kept saying he didn't have autism and blaming it on "Kawasaki's Disease" since he didn't believe autism existed. His son suffered from FREQUENT SEVERE SEIZURES and died on no medication whatsoever, because Scientologists don't believe in psychotropic medications which also happen to treat seizure patients. Anyone who fails to provide proper medical treatment to their children because of their religious, spiritual, or cult beliefs deserves to be in jail because it's murder any way you look at it. A child is under the guidance of their parents and does what they deem is best. Jett would still be alive today if his father had done the right thing. Now that John has apparently awakened (BTW, I remember when he claimed he could heal people with his bare hands), he should do right by his son by getting the hell out of that cult and publically preaching the dangers of getting involved with such a destructive and baseless ideology. RIP, Jett.

  58. 58

If this is true, and he is really acknowledging it, then he is VERY brave. I for one, would really respect that.

Nothing will bring Jett back, unfortunately, but if we do not learn from our mistakes, then we are bound to repeat. I have my fingers crossed for the Travolta family, who have another child to consider.

  59. 59

WOW! I wonder if this will cause him to question his whole entire belief system - scientology - and find out, to his horror, that it was all built on a sick house of cards - never mind the added guilt he is probably feeling that had he acknowledged the autism sooner his son would probably still be alive.

  60. 60

Scientologist fucking suck if they don't support John and his family through this time. Autisim is not fake!!! Let the man acknowledge his son's ailments in peace.

  61. 61

Admitting his son Jett had autism, against the wishes of Scientology, is very brave and admirable of John. I wish everyone would question the tennants of organized religion, and follow their own path to God. We love you John.

  62. 62

I hope he tells the Scientologists to go FUCK themselves for not allowing him to acknowledge this earlier!!!

AND While he's at it - I hope he finally comes out of the closet & dumps his wife so him & Tom Cruise can finally get married and live happily ever after!!!

    SCIENTOLOGY SUCKS!!!

  63. 63

How ironic that Scientologists would consider something fake.

  64. 64

He has nothing to lose by telling the truth about his son's autism. He lost the most precious thing to him….his son.

  65. 65

I'm sorry BUT why wasn't He taking His Medicine!?

  66. 66

Good for him, if he did acknowledge his son's autism. I hope he'll find the strength to leave that terrible, damaging cult. How can any sane, rational person believe the shit those Xenu freaks spout?

  67. 67

I think scientology is friggin crap. But leave poor John Travolta alone. His son is dead. How does a parent ever get over that? I can't even imagine.

  68. 68

Autism=Fake? What are these scientologists on?! Lets hope Travolta did acknowledge this & starts to use his celebrity status towards the awareness of this condition. Help put an end to the stigma. Blaming autistic people for having autism is like blaming a cardiac patient for having a dysfunctional heart.

  69. 69

seriously, how can scientologists deny the facts of conditions like autism? totally ridiculous…and scary

  70. 70

No parent should have to bury their child - so sad.
As a parent of a son with autism, I'm glad to see that he's finally decided to speak his truth.
Now he just needs to leave that cult if he can.

  71. 71

the right diet could have a positive affect on people with autism but is not a cure and ofcourse autism can't be cured by detoxing.

  72. 72

My son has high functioning Autism.
I think it is bullcrap how everyone calls it a "Disease" it is not a freakin'
disease, it is a pervasive developmental disorder characterized by delays in the development of multiple basic functions including socialization and communication. (Bio-neurological). It is nothing to be ashamed to admit!

  73. 73

I'm so sorry that this had to happen to the Travoltas. They seem like nice, sincere people. How sad it is in this day and age that people can still cling to wierd rules and ideas thought up and written down by one strange man. This is what can happen when you substitute misplaced devotion for common sense. (And thank goodness the boy with Hodgkin's Lymphoma was court ordered to undergo chemotherapy despite his "religion" trying to stop it.) It's just so wrong.

  74. 74

i dont get scientology??? BUT if it makes ppl ignore something as serious as autism, that needs a management program… (not medication Necessarily) then its got to be shite…..

  75. 75

Autism is not a psychiatric diagnosis–it is a neurological disorder.

It is not a mental disorder, though brain functioning is affected.

God bless the Travoltas. I am the mother of a child who has mild autism, and I know that rearing children is no easy matter.

  76. Big O says – reply to this

    76

When it comes to caring for your children, you will do ANYTHING to make them well despite going against the church.

  77. 77

As a Scientologist, I am outraged at so much of the media's snide implication that Mr. John Travolta's religion was to blame for Jett's death. The truth is that Scientology provided John the tools to handle his son's spiritual condition through the standard application of LRH tech. Instead, John chose to poison his son with the psych drug Depakote. John, you are an embarrassment to all of Scientology for turning to the pseudoscience of psychiatry. This is the overt that pulled in the tragic end cycle of your son. Please, John, for the love of god, get your ethics in and PLEASE disconnect from the psychs.

  78. 78

Re: RonSavelo – you are not a scientoligist, sorry, don´t buy you´re crap. anyone associated with TCOS would utter anything like this in public. to everyone else posting here - and as many has already pointed out - autism is not a mental disease but a more of a syndrome that affects the ability to learn and social interaction skills. Jet did not die from autism, but more likely from a condition not associated with autism.

  79. 79

Let's not drag John Travolta and his family into ANY gossip. Travolta is truly a beautiful human being. When his son died , I cried for him. Rest in Peace Jet! God bless you John and your family!

  80. 80

to heck with scientolgy, be Jetts voice and speak out! Sending lots of love your way!

  81. 81

Re: RonSavelo – *81Well Scientologist memeber, thank you for that NOT SO THOUGHTFUL comment. You just proved what idiots you all are in that CULT! Leave John Travolta and his family ALONE! How dare you! You make me puke! Would love to be able to slap your face right now for that ASININE statement.

  82. 82

    Re: magicmom – well said!

  83. 83

Itsjust sad that it took such a terrible tragedy for John to be brave enough to come out and admit Jett had autism. There is nothing to be ashamed of if your child is autistic but if you are a Scientologist like Travolta they wrongly convince you there is no such thing. So sad and wrong, just like how the Catholic Church looks the other way when it comes to the priests diddling with the altar boys!

  84. 84

This is all so sad. My heart goes out to him. I couldnt begin to think of how hard it is to lose a child. I to have an Autistic son. Its good for him that hes come out with this. Something that should never be headin.

  85. 85
