Venezuelan President and critic of the US Government, Hugo Chavez, has demanded that Coke Zero be pulled from his nation because it poses a health threat.
Health Minister Jesus Mantilla did not specify these health threats, but strongly advised that "the product should be withdrawn from circulation to preserve the health of Venezuelans."

Aspartame is extremely bad for you. I'm totally for this, anything that says its SUGAR FREE is actually really bad for you. Sure real sugar is bad, but in the end natural sugar is the lesser evil. Aspartame is nasty shit, don't drink. I hope this gets around and other people follow suit! =}

cause the artifical sweetners have molecules too big to naturally be absorbed in your system–just drink regular coke and cut down the amount of consumtion if you must drink carbonated suger drinks–its all in how you approach the amount ingested which makes all the difference-
Why are 'soft' drinks not good for you? First, they have NO nutritional value. Second, they are very acidic. Every time to have a soda, it upsets the balance of your PH. The body starts screaming for calcium to restore PH balance, and get where that calcium is stored? In your bones. Every soda you drink weakens your bones, and the older you get, the more the damage matters.
Then there are the chemicals in the sodas that the liver and kidneys have to filter, and then there is the carbonization. The body wasn't made to be banged from the inside by exploding bubbles. No good can come from that.
And lastly, if you are drinking soda with high fructose corn syrup, then you are literally flooding your liver with liquid sugar, something the liver was not designed to handle. It was designed to deal with much smaller amounts of sugar at one time, in solid form.
After smoking, soda is one of the most dangerous and destructive habits. (I forgot to mention, the acid in soda takes the enamel right off your teeth. No extra charge.)

Maybe because these diet sodas use sugar substitutes and most of those substitutes are aspartame which turns into formaldehyde in our blood stream. The United States allows a lot more insane ingredients in consumed products that others don't.

It was most likely banned for the use of aspartame as an artificial sweetener. Because aspartame is cheap and easy in production it is popular in many sugar free gums and sodas but it is also linked to brain cancer in preliminary studies by the FDA and will probably continue to be in "preliminary studies" because the FDA is not only funded by tax dollars but also by the companies whose products they test.

Not only is drinking a Coke the physiological equivalent of getting high, but the corporation itself is notorious in Latin/South America. Everything that is wrong with globalization can be seen in Coca-Cola. So that has something to do with it too. They drive out competition from their markets and prey upon poor communities. Plus, in Mexico, for example, Coca Cola is more prevalent than water and would cause major health problems for the people. Of course that has to do with Mexican water sanitation and lax environmental standards to attract American business…. I'll stop.

Aspartame, Splenda, Sucralose, and Saccharine (which is, generally, now banned) are all basically the same. The only difference is that when one of the aforementioned artificial sweeteners gets a lot of bad press, a new on is released.
Before Aspartame, Saccharine was used to sweeten diet drinks.. until a study showed a significant increase of tumors in rats. Once banned, aspartame (a "safe" alternative) was introduced. The problem with aspartame is it's ability to mimic life-threatening diseases (cancer, MS, epilepsy etc).. now a lot of fat/sugar free items will boast that they do not contain Aspartame, but they will fail to mention that they contain Splenda (which is Sucralose). That's a big problem with yogurt.
I've experienced Aspartame poisoning, so I know what I am talking about. It doesn't affect everyone, but it is real. You are better off with real sugar, or not drinking pop at all.

i believe acesulfame potassium is used as the sweetener in this drink. even though it's a noncaloric sweetener, it still causes your pancreas to excrete large amounts of insulin. even though the beverages its in have no calories, glucose in your blood stream can be reabsorbed and stored for later use. Because of this it may cause drops in blood sugar or it may possibly overwork your pancreas, making you less capable of creating insulin and increases your chances of developing type 2 diabetes. much of this is still speculation and research is still being conducted.

Depends on what country produces the aspartame. Most countries have agreed upon standards for the aspartame production. It would be ideal if other countries had to adhere to the same standards. If 90 countries use a higher standard and 2 countries don't, do we tell the sick people it's only an urban legend because our aspartame is safe? ahh yeah! you don't have to worry about people, that is because in almost all countries of latin america coke zero is produced with Cyclamate as sugar. So that is a potencial cancer product if you consume is larger than i-don't-know-how-much per day. Cyclamate is banned in USA but is the cheapper sweetener in the market as the aspartame… so coke zero is make with anothers sweeteners in the USA after known the effects in long periods of time.
