The social networking website MySpace announced Tuesday afternoon that they will be laying off almost 30% of their workforce, bringing their employee count to just 1,000 people.

According to their press release, due to declining pageviews and increased competition, the company will be returning to its "start-up culture."

Wow.

That's a huge number of people to let go!

Not surprising in the least. I check my myspace maybe once a week and several people I know have closed their accounts. Not worth keeping one when everyone I know and talk to is on Facebook.

Actually all social media sites get dull after college because you no longer are procrastinating studying. Big surprise I think both sites facebook and myspace are weak, but facebook has a lot less spam and makes it harder to spam as well. Plus I think people got sick of their myspace accounts getting hacked.

myspace is sooo totally better then facebook, who gives a shit what app everyone is using and when and who cares if a friend of a friend is eating dinner… and its myspace's fault anyway with the whole privacy setting making it so you cant see peoples profiles, thats why page views are down. ITS A SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE ALL PROFILES SHOULD BE AVAIL (on both sites)

Oh well…nothing lasts forever. The MySpace trend was bound to fade away eventually. Honestly, MySpace got boring after awhile and there were so many problems associated with it. I know they worked hard to revamp the site but now it just seems like a Facebook clone.

well they started as a platform for indie artists and when they became succesfull, started promoting mainstream artists and no indie ones.

The page views have declined because they made it to where you can receive a comment and then just hit the comment back button and you never go to their page. They did it to themselves.

MySpace is too rife with 13 year olds and phonies. At least FB, until they start making your page public like they're planning on doing, is still somewhat controlled and not as many wackadoodles can access your site or contact you…for now, anyway!

It's those damn stupid "Apps" that pull your personal information when you access their site that's the problem and FB is fully aware of this yet does nothing about it! They both kinda suck in that respect!

It's because MySpace is trashy now. It used to be fun but now its nothing but a pop up, white trash infested site. I just deleted my MySpace and let me tell ya…they don't want people to go. It took me 5 attempts and an email to their customer service to finally get rid of my site.

The big problem with social networking sites is that they were meant for people to meet NEW people, not to reconnect with old people or to replace your telephone as a means of communication with your friends. So they sign up cause it's something new to do, not thinking what's going to happen next. Girls then get 500 messages from pervs every day. they say "fuck this" and delete their accounts. Facebook realized this, recreated their website/program accordingly, and now that's where everyone is. IMO.

Myspace has transformed from a social network like facebook, to a social media network. Myspace will die, followed shortly by facebook. It's like any other trend; it fades away and new ones are born.
