Although we don't agree with her stance (duh), the newly anointed Miss Cali, Tami Farrell was asked her opinion on same-sex marriage, the beauty queen answered with such grace and tact!
Farrell said that she believes that marriage is the union of a man and a woman, but….
The new Miss California wasn't done there.
Explained Farrell: "I don't think that I have the right or anybody has a right to tell somebody who they can or can't love. And I think that this is a civil rights issue. And I think that the right thing to do is let the voters decide."

I think there are some things voters should not decide on. Slavery ended and women got the vote because the government took a stand and made it end. Voters would not have voted to end slavery or give women the right to vote. Sometimes large groups of people who have grown up thinking prejudice is OK need to be told to stop discriminating. Allowing voters to decide on social issues is wrong because a lot of voters are pig ignorant.

exactly. gay marriage is a civil right to be decided by individual states, and the unfortunate fact is, majority of California voters said YES to banning gay marriage, just like Tami Farrell just admitted to doing. in that case, it is NOT for the courts to make its OWN decision and overturn the citizens' decision, which is why the Supreme Court upheld Prop 8.

And it's much different having to answer this question at the pageant vs. having 2 months to think about what you might say. I agree it was a better answer, because of the insert “ it is a civil issue and voters should decide“. However she also had plenty of time to think about this answer, knowing she was going to be asked the same question. Where as the other Miss California did not. it is still a tough question to answer especially in the pageant world where gays are a majority. The media is consistently bring up the answer Miss California Gave about Gay marriage. This leaves me to believe her answer did have something to do with her getting booted as Miss California. The answer she gave put her in a negative spotlight and magnified any wrongs she did in her role as Miss California. Please let us know when was the last Miss California was ever fired prior to this firing. I bet it was a long long time ago. Am I to believe that The fired miss California is the only pageant holder to miss events. I really don’t think so. Can you imagine the schedule they were trying to push onto her to force her to quit? Every single day, plus for 10 days, 2 events? Given the sheer quantity, she would miss some due to travel time between all of it. That's not normal for ANY state contestant if you look up the current schedules on calendars on the websites. 3-4 a week tops is what's out there for most other states. AND once a week, they choose their own cause.
