Either that or she really does love being in the tabloids.
Photogs captured Kate losing her temper with one of the sextuplets, Leah, on Saturday morning. As Kate was on the phone, Leah was blowing a whistle. After Kate asked her to stop, Leah blew on the whistle again and Kate became enraged.
She rose from her seat, came over, and spanked the little girl! In front of the cameras!
A witness tellsInTouch, "The girl was screaming and crying. Kate just pushed her away and walked off with her coffee. Her older sisters were trying to make Leah feel better.”
Oy, not a good move, Kate. Doesn't help your image at all, since your trying to avoid being labeled an abusive parent.
Of course, in light of this news, the experts had to be called in to see if this was a serious offense on Kate's part. Though there is no laws against spanking and the parental community is divided on the practice.
In a public statement, Kate stands firm behind the feeling that how she disciplines her children in public or private is her decision.
We do think Kate should have thought about those damn cameras before reacting the way she did.

I am pro spanking but the part about kate pushing her daughter is the part that made me mad! It is one thing to make your child learn from the mistake he or she made, but it is another to make your child feel bad about themselves afterwards. Another thing is that if you spank your child you should spank the child and then sit them down and talk to them after, not let your older children comfort them!
oh my god everybody need stop stop caring about these people. THEY'RE A FUCKING REALITY TV SHOW!! I realize the children didn't get a say about being on television but still… like her or hate her it's HER decision how to discipline her children. All of our parents were spanked and they grew up fine. I'm certainly not advocating child abuse but a slight tap on the bum when your child is out of line will stop their behavior right then and there. It's just society and everyone wanting to be their child's "friend" that has made spanking unethical in today's parenting. totally agree about your post. If you are a parent and have to spank your kids, it just shows how little you know about parenting. That means you have no clue on how to deal with kids. Pickup a book and find out how a 5 year old thinks. Spanking is reactionary.

Well I for one am thrilled to see a parent who FINALLY knows who's in charge. I never had kids and thank God, because I have no tolerance for little bratts who demand attention. When my friends had their children, it was during that period of time in the 70's when people thought it was bad to spank. Good God, look where that's gotten us now. I say, "Good for you, Kate! Hit her again!". I'd hit Leah myself, but it's illegal for some stupid reason.

A few idiots decided that everyone who spanks their kids are "abusive", and once that label gets out there, people become afraid to use discipline anymore. Children need to learn consequences, and at that age, sometimes they need a pop on the bottom to get their attention. I would never condone beating a child with an object (I don't spank my children with anything but my hand, because objects HURT, and that's not the point of spanking), but a little spank on the behind isn't going to ruin them for life.

Why should she change her behavior because the cameras are there? If she let her kids do whatever they want then everyone would bitch about that. what kate did was shocking. I think that spanking/abusing your children should be illegal all around the world. I live in New Zealand and spanking/abusing children is illegal. If the law is broken, you would face some serious charges.
and kate's child is very young. In the first picture, it looked more like she was using her fist than her hand. Being spanked/abused can bring your children into a environment where they would possibly be doing drugs and alcohol when they are older. I know many kids that do this because they were brought up in a bad environment.

Listen, spanking a child always looks worse than it is. I have 2 kids and have had to spank on multiple occasions. You have NO idea how much children push the limits. Kids are downright disobedient again and again and again.

discipline should never take place when the parent is angry-everything i've ever read about parenting (& being a parent as well) say the same thing, its NOT effective done with anger. As a social worker, i believe that there are many different ways to handle dealing with a child other than having a physical beating…but sometimes kids need a little tap on the butt to keep them in line. It's not about the spanking of the child in anyway to cause pain, it's about showing the child whose in charge and that they have to listen to the parent.

she's cracking!!! At first, the show always show them doing time outs with the kids or just walking away and ignoring them, never whippings!! They even say how hard they are on their toys, one broke the top of the toliet how rough they are with each other and the dogs. I think they need a crack on the back side once in a while, but not when you are trying to talk to your boyfriend and not paying attention to them. Her favorite thing is to get a chair and watch them play. She takes them places and buy them everything but she doesn't know how to play with them!

I think that she needs to get her family out from infront of the cameras and let the kids live a normal life. I dont feel that she was in the wrong for spanking her child. I am a mother of 3 and sometimes other forms of punishment do not work and I have had to spank my children. I was spanked as a child and I turned out to be a good person that respects authority.

I believe you can discpline your children with words and possible Time Outs ..not with hitting. Hitting causes children shame and hurt. I feel she is over her head. There were plenty of other ways she could of handled this situation: take the whistle away, put her in time out like they would do to the kids in previous seasons or walk a little further away to where it was a little quieter but she was still able to keep an eye on them… Why did she have to so quickly resort to hitting the little girl? Seems like she has a short temper and when she doesn't get what she wants will easily become enraged. If I didn't spank my kids, they would run me down. I use all methods of discipline on my 4 kids; spanking on the butt, stand in the corner, time out, grouding, taking priveleges away. All work at different times. Thanks to discipline, I am a productive member of society as will my children be. Way to go Kate for not trying to hide who you are, for not beating your child, for not dangling her over the edge of the balcony, holding her by one foot, dropping her, smoking with her in the car, driving with her in your lap, etc. Kate is a good mother. She has 8 kids. It is the job of the older siblings to help out with the younger siblings. Its called life. Move on people and let Kate and her family move on.
