normally i would say that celebs should stand above this, but i would have had problems to skip your comments myself.
freedom of speech is fine (though in your opinion that's YOUR right not everybody elses), but insulting with words is not. i hate violence, but you forced it (i saw the vid of the incident itself) and not just by calling names, you were physically offensive.
and don't get me wrong: i enjoy a little mockery, and even if someone's the black goat for a while, i'm fine with it, but you are crossing the line too often.
i asked myself why i'm still coming here - it's because of the comments. silly, maybe, but true - i want to know what people think about you - not to read your stuff.

The people defending Perez - they really don't get it. Gay rights and the classification of hate crimes includes throwing this word around. Technically, if it had been Will that said it, he could be arrested under a hate crime for disturbing, with the extenuating hate crime addendum. Instigation is a crime as well, in a "disturbing the peace" violation. I don't know how Canada does it, but quite frankly, they BOTH could be cited under the law here.
Re: nicolie – I'm not the one pretending to be self-righteous and claim one's right and the other is wrong - BOTH are wrong. You are defending the instigator who LIED - YES PEREZ LIED (and by his own account HE LIED) but cries about Will being a liar for NOT hitting him (which Perez later claims that no he didn't). There's video of both the punch and the fight - Will NEVER raises his voice, NEVER curses him out and is speaking calmly before Perez drops his HATE SPEECH. Perez CONTINUED to PUSH AND PUSH AND PUSH another human being to the breaking point. Anyone who gets up in your face, starts ranting and calling you names, then KEEPS AT IT - will cause a response. If Perez hadn't made a hateful comment that he fully admits knew would piss people off, he wouldn't have gotten punched. PERIOD. Comparing it to domestic violence, or whatever is ridiculous. IF a woman is in a man's face, berating him, screaming at him, non-stop, emasculating him, bumping up into him with a puffy chest - he will break. Just like a woman would too. It's a human trait. If it went to court, and the woman admitted to trying to push his buttons as hard as she could - you think a court would say "oh well, he still pushed you down - 20 years!"

I agree with this. Right now, people are hugely upset over this. About the only sympathizers are the same ones who are pushing people's buttons daily here in the comments. I've seen almost the full 100% of people defending Perez actions, berating, cussing out, etc. other posters. It's almost like defending their own actions - "I'm going to insult you and call you everything I can, but how dare you fight back!" Even the small 2% that are defending him - it's amazing (and entertaining) to me some of the things they say, especially when they've gone on and on about "gay rights" this and that - and then a word that's defined as hate speech that can be used in court to define a hate crime, and they say "oh well, it's okay". Violence is never the answer, but neither is KNOWINGLY trying to push someone to the breaking point - and Perez has admitted to this! And people still try to defend it! Humans are just that - humans with emotion. Anger is one of them, and if you push long enough, hard enough and get in someone's face enough - they will break.

Re: epic – I also want to mention - the huge backlash right now against gay activists simply for actions like comparing it to incomparable struggles. Gays are not like blacks (they weren't rounded up, raped, forced to work for shanties…), gays (and this situation) isn't domestic abuse. If a man steps up to a woman, shoving into her (like Perez did, the video shows), and started screaming misogynistic things - he could be arrested, even without throwing a punch. So comparing all this is ridiculous. And it's a huge slap in the face to those who DIED in the struggle for blacks civil rights, women AND men who are beaten daily, and to gay people trying to get their rights the RIGHT way. I should also mention - cyber bullying is against the law and wishing death on Fergie to "impale herself", among other things could be considered a crime as well.
