"Morris Animal Foundation has launched an unprecedented $30 million effort to cure canine cancer within a dog's lifetime – the next 10 to 20 years. World–renowned veterinary scientists and cancer specialists agree that this MAF–led effort will not only save countless dogs from suffering and premature death, but should also help produce breakthroughs in the prevention, treatment, and cures of human cancers – in particular childhood cancers."

This is a fantastic cause. I know many pets who have passed away way too early because of cancer, and some people may say "Oh, it's just a pet" but we all know that they're alive too, and we love them so much. Thank you Perez, for supporting this.

perez…. do you know what this means? rich scientists with selfish agendas who at the end of the day, DON"T LOVE ANIMALS>>.. it's ironic bcs they have to do egregious animal tests on dogs in order to find these so called "cures" which is by no mean guaranteed… the same results can be found using data that has been collected through the years and data that will come about in the future from doctor/patient records and stats.

This is a great cause. I lost one of my babies (the one in my avatar) to a rare type of cancer in March. Another one of my babies is going through chemotherapy for lymphoma. She is in remission and has one more round left. Another one of my babies had to have a toe amputated due to cancer and has to have bloodwork and renal ultrasounds to check for tumors. She has been doing great for the three years since she was diagnosed. Thank you for posting this. My babies mean so much to me and this is such an ugly disease. I cannot wait for the day that they find a cure!

I'm a huge animal lover, but unfortunately I could never afford the cost I've seen some people go through for their beloved pets. I wish their were more vets that could help with this sickness for a lower cost because pets are truly family!

I'm sorry, and while there may be some break-throughs, 30 MM for canine cancer should be spent on human medical research. There is too much human suffering with our broken medical system.

No, I'm not a "pet" kind of person, yes, I do understand some people are - but I can't help but feel more empathy for the tent folks in California, seniors who are being broken by health care costs, losing benefits - these people are more important - only my opinion.

What a great thing Morris Animal Foundation is doing! Dogs are part of our families, but our best friend can get sick just like humans can. Morris Animal Foundation wants to help you be a best friend to your dog. They launched the Canine Cancer Campaign to help scientists around the world prevent, treat and, ultimately, cure cancer so your best friend leads a long, happy and healthy life. Thanks Perez for raising awareness for MAF and the Canine Cancer Campaign!

Re: ccbloom78 – It is a great idea, and canine cancer should be cured. The real agenda is most likely curing cancer in humans, while using animals as side products. Just look at the Washington State University Vet school, which some consider one of the best "vet hospitals" in the world. General Electric and other pharmaceutical companies fund them. They are funded to buy homeless animals from the Lewiston Idaho, Clarkson, WA, and Tri Cities, WA shelters to experiement on. I want canine cancer to be cured, I have lost beloved family members to the disease; it shouldn't come at the cost of other animals though.

Come on 30 mil for dog cancer im an animal lover but how about spending 30 mil on trying to cure cancer in children….waste of money

I cant believe what Im reading below, that people are actually against this? Dont you all understand that finding a cure, even if for an animal, ultimately leads to finding cures for everyone, even people. Cancer is cancer, its all tied together. Whether is hereditary, or from smoking, right now its the most horrible way to go. I Have personally experienced the death of cancer, up close and personal, of both close family members and a dog… neither is pretty, all our painful. To find a cure anywhere, is going to open doors to saving more the world over.
