Republican Governor From South Carolina Admits To Cheating On Wife!

Surprise, surprise.

We've got yet another unfaithful politician on our hands!

Married South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford has admitted to having an affair with an Argentinean woman!

Sanford finally fessed up to an affair that was discovered 5 months ago with a "dear, dear friend from Argentina" while secretly visiting her in Buenos Aires.

Ick!

"I'm a bottom-line kind of guy. I'll lay it out, it's going to hurt, and we'll let the chips fall as they may," said Sanford at a news conference on Wednesday in Columbia.

So why did Sanford admit to cheating on his wife so publicly??

The South Carolina governor has dropped the ball politically, according to his colleagues and critics.

Earlier Wednesday, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler said in a statement it was the "height of irresponsibility for the governor to walk out on his solemn duty to the people of South Carolina.

"When it comes to the real needs and concerns of South Carolinians, Mark Sanford has been pretty much missing in action for the last six-and-a-half years. But it is not acceptable for him to be actually missing," South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler stated on Wednesday morning.

She continued: "However, as disturbing as it is to walk out on your responsibilities without telling anyone, what's more troubling is that the governor and his staff have been less than truthful about his whereabouts."

Sanford had been MIA from South Carolina since the 18th, and originally claimed he was busy "hiking in the Appalachian Trail."

Republidicks gotta love them. They just preach those family values.

  2. 2

what at a$$hole! Wonder if his wife is all that surpirsed about this, she had to have known… I mean, he just says "bye honey, I'm going hiking for a few days"… then he hops on a plane to argentina… sounds fishy!

  3. 3

Governor Mark Sanford believes strongly that marriage should only be between a man and a woman and another woman from Argentina!

  4. 4

Being a republican has nothing to do with this, ASS

  5. 5

    southamerican girls r the hottest

  6. 6

The governor is a Republican (natch!) yet Fox News labels him as a Democrat. They always seem to have problems with (R) and (D) when it is a Republican who screws up. Classic.

And people believe things that station says. Amazing.

  7. 7

I read the article and noticed this:
"Pressed further on whether he and his wife are separated, he said, "I don't know how you want to define that. I mean, I'm here and she's there. I guess in a formal sense we're not, but what we're trying to do is work through something that we've been working through for a number of months now"

So obviously this affair was probably not a shock to his wife, since he and his wife have been 'trying' to work through this… interesting though, he's trying to 'work through' this affair all the while he is traveling internationally to visit his mistress…. hmm… apparenetly working through their problems includes carrying on the affiar. very interesting work there, governor!

  8. 8

    Gee…another republican f-ing up how unusual….

  9. 9

I thought he was a Democratic??? Your article title says Republican?????

  10. 10

another republican elected official who claims family values and cheats on his/her spouse. Hypocrisy at its finest…don't forget their insisted remarks for those who do such things should step down…He should heed his words and do the same.

  11. 11

Here is his wife's response to the affair:
""I am being a mom today. I have not heard from my husband. I am taking care of my children," she said outside the couple's beach home on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. "

Hmm… don't you think it would be beneficial for your children to actually know where their father is? Its fine if your taking care of your children, but taking care of theme while your husband travels to another country to carry on an affair is a lot of responsibility. Maybe all her focus to be a mother took too much focus away from also being a wife?

  13. 13

I think he is HOT, but not as hot as Stephen Baldwin. I wish Sanford had the affair with me!

  14. 14

I think he is hot, but not as hot as Stephen Baldwin. I wish Sanford had the affair with me. Woof.

    15

Some surprise. Politicians just seem to have a God complex and believe me it doesn't matter which side of the isle they are from. You know your going to get caught!!! At least go to Vegas, after all you’re already gambling and when you get caught you'll loose all your money. TeeHee

  16. 16

good old-fashioned republican "family values" at work here. nice one.

  17. 17

    Republican Governor cheated
    on his wife,
the media will be all over this.
    .
Too bad for him he was not
    a Democratic governor,
that would put him first in line
to run for President in 2012
or as least make him the front runner
    for a Senate seat.

  18. 18

What an a self righteous a**hole. There are plenty of political/government/religious leaders that tell us what is right, moral and just while doing whatever the hell they feel like doing and then preach to us why we're all terrible people. It makes me sick. How the hell does he leave his job for a week and not have to tell anyone where he's going? What if something happened, what if he was needed? No one knew where he was. Did he think that no one would question his disappearance? For supposedly "smart" people, some of these jack arses make some very stupid mistakes.

  19. 19

Re: redhead27 – Or maybe, just maybe, her husband is a lying, cheating scumbag. He's a politician. It's what they do.

  20. 20

The guy's been missing since last Weds - first the hiking story —

    - but even funnier was the "first" Argentina excuse — he FIRST said he was driving the costal highway — except — the costal highway in Buenos Aires is 2 miles long . . . so that didn't work for him.
    -
He is the LEADER OF THE REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS ASSOCIATION - kind of the "head" Republican Governor . . .
    -
This comes one day after Republican Senator John Ensign of Nevada resigned due to an affair . . .
    -
lololololol !!!! I'm enjoying this GOP Death Spiral way, WAY too much . . . !!!!

  21. 21

They all cheat!! Its just a matter of who gets away with it!

  22. 22

republican as a prefix to governor has nothing to do with this article. This is just ANOTHER politician in two years who has again had a mistress.

  23. 23

this doesan't make him a bad congress man just a piece of shit husband

  24. 24

    Re: RashManly – Rashly - I'm just teasing you here . . .
repeat after me . . . "Death Spiral"
    -
Listen, I'm not trying to be an ass, and I really am just kidding with you. Not like the Dems haven't had their share of affairs . . .
    -
(I am enjoying this all a bit too much . . . Its going to come back to haunt me in time, I know )

  25. 25

Between Jesse Jackson and this douche, it makes me ashamed that they represent the beautiful state of South Carolina. As if we don't have enough negatives (poor rural schools, high welfare rate, the USC Gamecocks), we have to deal with this jackass that used state money to pay for his booty call. THANKS ALOT!!

  26. 26

As big an asshole as this guy is, I'll gladly trade South Carolina their Governor for Our Michigan Governor anyday!

  27. 27

RashManly, you're missing the hypocrisy angle. This is an ultra-conservative governor who has run on his Family Values who believes in the sanctity of marriage.

Show me a Dem who espouses those values and then steps on them. Republican's do that DAILY.

Vitter - with a prostitute. Won election by chastising Clinton over Lewinsky.

Gingrich - was screwing around on his first wife with his second. Screwed around on his 2nd wife with his 3rd. RAILED Clinton about a blow job while Newt was getting his own hummers - and not from his wife - at the same time.

Craig - tap dancing in a gay bathroom

Ensign - mistress (he who is an evangelical Christian on a council for the sanctity of marriage!

I think all of them screwing around sucks, but don't discount the hypocrisy angle. That is why Republican Family Values is such a scam.

    Temptation and opportunity
    and whomp there it is-
The real bipartisan, multicultural, all inclusive
human condition from which we are
    biologically and genetically predisposed.

    Re: LULU~*
This governor is an ass -
i hope he gets kicked out!
    I belong to neither party.
    .
The Democrats tried to knock off
    Governor Sarah Palin sixteen times
recently (16) with charges and scandals -
she cleared herself SIXTEEN TIMES! -
    .
To see who the Democrats really fear,
just look who they try to destroy.
    .
No one has to destroy President Obama,
he is doing a fine job of that himself,
in spite of his Obama worshiping
    mainstream media and Hollywood.
    .
Obama is showing his true colors
and America can see the color is RED!
    .
    Governor Sanford is an idiot,
    I hope he resigns,
    he was in hiding,
    perhaps having another affair,
    tee hee!
    .
Bravo to Perez for airing both
sides of the issue on his site,
Perez believes in free speech rights,
unlike many in the Democratic party
trying to censor talk radio today
    and the Internet tomorrow.
    .
    P.S.
    LULU ROCKS!!!

  30. 30

I live in south carolina, i know the gov. Everyone here is shocked, but it has nothing to do with him being a republican or his family values. Everyone slips- to say hes been MIA isnt true either, he's been a great gov. To say that he wasnt a good gov because of a slip in his personal life would be like saying Clinton wasnt a good president because of his slip- which, as a republican, i would love to say- but it doesnt make it true.
So hault your judgements on his job as a gov unless you actually know his record.

  31. 31

WOW ANOTHER REPUBLICAN UNFAITHFUL….BUT YET THESE PEOPLE CONTINUE TO FIGHT AGAINST GAYS TO BE HAPPY BUT YET THEY ARE THE ONE'S WHO ARE CARRYING THE WEIGHT AND HAVE THE SKELETONS IN THE CLOSEST.

  32. 32

His wife wasn't giving anything and he wanted some!! SO WHAT!!! it is his life. i think the media just blows EVERYTHING out of proportion!

  33. 33

Another republican stickin his dick where it don't belong and then lying about it. Must be something in the "Republican Handbook" that says–"get in office then do whatever the fuck you want"

  34. 34

That's a long way to go just to get laid. This must be true love.

  35. 35

Re: Kittycat1 – Kittycat! You're so right! How can anyone blame his wife for being a responsible mother? This guy should be friends with Jon Gossling.

Crisis- Governors aren't Congressman. Just sayin….

  36. 36

Perez, you're really not as smart as you think you are. You should think about getting off your high cloud and coming back reality. You're losing fans fast.

  37. 37

    Re: RashManly – Hi Rashly - I'm telling you, what if God IS a republican ??/ I'm doomed . . .
    -
Some MAJOR scandal HAS to happen to the Dems - it can't keep going like this . . . (but for now . . . LOLOLOL !)

  38. 38

My own mother is now telling me that my "overt glee" of this is creating bad karma . . . (I didn't know she knew what "karma" is).

  39. 39

Can we just say that from no on, ANY Politician who claims that Gay marriage will harm traditional marrige is EITHER

    1. a closet case
    2. cheating on his wife/Adultery

    Re: LULU~*
    Hi Lulu and Ms Joanne,
both of you make valid points.
    .
    If GOD did not
    love all sinners,
I would fry in Hell for sure!

    .

    And I would NEVER make
    fun of gay bashing Republican
    Larry Craig - - - oh yes I would!
    .
    The Larry Craig Song
    TAPPY FEET
    sung to the tune of
    “HAPPY FEET”
    .

    Tappy feet,
    Craig has those tappy feet,
Give him a down low beat,
    And he’ll come out dancing,
    .
    I don’t know,
If he’s on the down low,
    .
    But his dancing,
    Is so entrancing,
    A bathroom beat
    born for romancing!
    .
    Feeling blue,
Cause he just tapped my shoe,
    While he was looking through,
The crack in my stall door,
    .
    Not to gripe,
But he is not my type,
Because he has those tappy feet!
    .

  47. 47

Another republican southern scumbag family values hypocritical fascist. They make me sick.

  48. 48

I was watching his press conference live and was stunned when he said he was having an affair, I thought he was just going to explain where he was over the weekend. While his affair is disappointing, what bothers me is that he left SC without telling anyone where he was, and he's in charge of a state. And for those who have been saying that he's "doing the right thing" and "being a big man by being honest" - the only reason he came out with this is because reporters would have uncovered this in a day or two, and he would have been caught anyway. He's a swine.

  49. 49

Re: RashManly – You sound upset, need a tissue, rural freak? People voted for Obama and it was a landslide sorry you're not happy,do I detect another republican-lite whiner? Anyway it seems like the republican party of Gods family values are the biggest scumbag hypocrites, they only find family values to harass gay people and women who want the freedom of choice on pregnancy without gov intervention. One by one the most disgusting people are republicans, bigots.slime one by one. When a rightwing party of scum attacks peoples values all the time, they better be beyond reproach. But this self-fish bigots who are part of the gop can't help themselves because they are all immoral to the core.

Re: @v@ – and that could be true i mean it is his life he chose to do one thing and that's what happened. i was just saying what was on my mind.

  64. 64

There are cheaters in both parties but the difference is the Dems don't run on a family value platform wanting others to live life as "they see fit". I feel bad for his wife and kids but him, no way. I'm loving seeing the GOP going down in flames.

  65. 65

The Governor is not not a republican, he's a democrat. fact check!

  66. 66

Look, I'm a South Carolina Republican and the big problem here is that he was incommunicado for a few days. NOBODY in my acquaintance cares about the affair or the lying about the affair, not my v. conservative 67 year-old father, nor even my big-time Liberal best friend and her major Democratic-donor husband. Sanford's not some big hypocrite; he's a decent guy who made a mistake. Look, if you all want to look for skeletons in the closets of S.C. politicians, there's way better stuff than this.

  68. 68

What's the problem? It did not bother many Dem's when Bill Clinton was banging Monica in the same buildings that he and family lived in and then lied to the world about it. 84. 84

  89. 89

I never understand why people fail to take this sort of thing into account when voting for people for public office. If a man is not even faithful or honest with his own wife then how can you expect him to have any level of integrity anywhere else, at his job with colleagues or with friends or in any other area of his life? It's a huge red flag that the person is dishonest and lacks integrity.

  90. 90

AT LEAST HE DIDN'T LET MARY JO KOPCHENE SUFFOCATE UNDER WATER. AND HOW 'BOUT ALL THEM UGLY WOMEN THAT BILL CLINTON "DID". THERE IS NEVER ANY MORAL OUTRAGE WHEN A DEMOCRAT CHEATS BECAUSE THE DEMS HAVE NO MORALS!!!!!

  91. 91

Re: Maleficent666 – How do you know how I'd react if he were a Democrat? (FYI, I didn't give two figs about Clinton's infidelity, only that he was the chief law enforcement officer of the U.S. and lied under oath.) What do you think about John Edwards? Apparently, to you, it is unforgivable for someone to make a stupid mistake - or is it only unforgivable for Republican politicians? By the way, the emails bet. the two of them make it clear he was in love with her and not just out for a cheap thrill, unlike most politicians and their paramours.

  92. 92

    Re: Maleficent666

You need to read her comment again. She was just quoting a previous comment and stating that they were wrong.

  93. 93

CandyAppleRed: I'm still waiting for this "HOPE" and "CHANGE" to happen that NObama kept promising. This country is going down everyday all because of HIM! Nothing has gotten better.

And if I remember correctly the last two politicians to make headlines for having an affair were John Edwards and Bill Clinton….BOTH BOTH BOTH ARE DEMOCRATS!

So why don't all of you shut up and get your facts straight before you speak.

  94. 94

i think that Governor Mark didn't really have this "affair" - i think he made it up, to get more attention, because nobody nobody tells the public their having/or had an affair, look at Bill Clinton… he made it up to get publicity (not caring how he gets it) i saw his speech on the News, he seemed way to calm !!

    The Nickname xoxo

  95. 95

The only thing that he says he is going to do is reimburse the taxpayers for the "Argentina-leg" of his trip. Yet he voiced is opinion during Clinton's dilemma that he should resign and pretty much talked junk about him…

  96. 96

OMG!!! I can't believe you people talking so free about someone else's private life. What makes you the right person to talk about it?…
