The Oscars Beef Up Best Picture

Do you think the Academy is having trouble narrowing down their selection?

Because this year's Oscars will see 10 nominees in the Best Picture category instead of 5!

The Academy Awards originally had 10 nominees a category back in the 1930's and 40's, but over the years the Academy slimmed down their pickings.

Academy President Sid Ganis broke the news on Wednesday at a press conference in Beverly Hills, stating that by having 10 nominees, it will "open the field up to more worthy films."

Translation: This is all about $$$$$$$$$$.

By being able to tout "Oscar-nominated" on their films, the movie studios stand to make A LOT more money.

It fun watching the career of Perez go down in flames. Its much like the destruction he itries to inflicted on other only this is all self-induced.

I love this idea! If this means the Academy nominates more comedies(Funny People), action(Star Trek), horror(Drag Me to Hell), animation(Up) and foreign films instead of oscar baity ones, just awesome!
sigh, I still hate the academy for not coming up with this idea last year hat way The Dark Knight and The Wrestler could've been nominated for Best Picture.

What crap. They'd be hard pressed to find 10 movies worthy of a nomination!

      18

that's just too much! they still only nominate 3 movies for make-up and costume categories, and that's just being lazy….10 movies is over the top.

    19. 19

I think it will lessen the "status" of Oscar-nominated anything…

Most people don't even see the 5 that are nominated! And now there will be 10? I think a better plan of action would be to make sure they were released on DVD before the ceremony so the masses can see them.

I think 10 is far too many.. bumping it up to 7 or 8 would have been more than enough. Now, movies that are slightly "under worthy" are going to get through, get the nmoniation and take votes away from movies that deserve to win. However, I do think the acting categories should be bumped to 7 or 8. There are far more actors in competition than movies and this way more than one or two actors from a movie will get a shot at being nominated

Good! Too bad it's too late for last year - it was BS that Brad ArmPitt's stupid Forrest Gump-redux hunk of crap "Case of Benjamine Butthole" got nominated but the awesome "Revolutionary Road" did not! They should so the same for the acting categories too - LEO was robbed of a much-deserved nod over ArmPitt!

    23. 23

Re: MRS. JOSH HOLLOWAY – AMEN! Last year was the biggest screwing he got thus far! He totally deserved to be nominated while ArmPitt had no fucking biz being nominated!
