True Blood Is A True Hit

Last week we mentioned that the second season premiere of True Blood was the highest rated program for the premium cable network since the finale of The Sopranos.
Over 3.7 million viewers tuned in to watch the premiere, which caused the ratings to go up 157% from the first season's premiere. Shall they thank the Twilight fans for that?
And it seems the show's DVD sales are doing pretty good as well!
In fact, True Blood: The Complete First Season DVD has sold over 1 million copies!
The disc set was released four weeks ago and has already made $35 million in total sales.
It also took the top number one spot for TV DVD sales last week, followed by a far second place with Weeds selling 334,000 copies.
So tell us, why do U watch True Blood?

Re: yourodette – I thought it was a twilight knock off too….untill I actually read the books the series was based on…..It's a million times more adult then twilight (and dont get me wrong twilight is pretty awesome) but it has alot more sex, violence and drama….and it goes far deeper into the supernatural world then twilight ever did.

I love this series! I have to admit it's because I got so into Vampires because of Twilight - but I bought all of the Sookie Stackhouse books (all 9 of them) and read all of them and then got Season 1 of True Blood because the books were so amazing - and now I added HBO to my cable so that I can watch Season 2 as it happens. There's just something about a vampire! IDK - they're very sexy - and True Blood doesn't skimp on the SEX!
I watch it (but I'm not part of those ratings, since the new series hasn't begun here yet - I watch it online though) because I think it's fascinating the whole "when the vampires came out and started living with the humans", it's so well done and the plot is incredibly addicting - not to mention the hotness that is that show.
OH! And I forgot to mention that I'm totally in LURVE with Eric! Alexander Skaarsgard is STEAMING HOT!
my husband says that this is the boys version of Twilight because it has lots of boobs, since he watched Twilight with me, I watch True Blood with him. Once I started watching it though, I found out it is a really great show, it leaves you wanting more after every episode!

Found the first season on iTunes on boring afternoon at work while the boss was out.
I must admit I love Vampires, Zombies, and all that stuff so I thought I'd give it a go.
The first episode drew me in and from there I just wanted to see what happened next. The series is filmed really well with great settings, the actors are great, including little Anna Paquin all grown up!
Can't wait for for Season 2 to come out on iTunes here.
PS. Twilight is kiddy Vampires, True Blood are grown up vampires with interesting plot twists who actually have s3x instead of staring deep into each others eyes for 5 mins.
I'm addicted..The must original show on TV..Dark, cleaver, funny, original, sexy, blood, passsion, more love, more passion and mistery…LOVE IT…

I watch True Blood because it is entertaining, dark, and depicts vampires in the "right" way…none of this glittering in the sun bullshit Twilight gives.

its really good i've seen a few episodes now, its the storyline that grabs me personally.
Gives you a different perspective from what life is like not with just the vampires but how fragile life is.

I just watched all the episodes this past week and I love them. Completely obsessed. Like all HBO shows, it's really well written and has an interesting plot. Also, there are a lot of supernatural parallels (i.e. prejudice against vampires mirrors racial prejudice) to the world we live in. I love Twilight but True Blood is a completely different beast altogether!!
TRUE BLOOD WAS BEFORE TWILIGHT, they copied true blood, it is the original and the better of the two, as the ratings already suggest!!!
I watched Season 1 right before Season 2 aired and the show had to grow on me, but I've come to love it;O)

I watch it because it's a great, risque show with brilliant characters and it's based on a great series of books. It has nothing to do with that Twilight rubbish. True Blood PAWNS Twilight anyday.

I mean, Edward is telepathic, Sookie is telepathic. Edward falls in love with a human, Sookie falls in love with a vampire.

This series is based on Sookie Stackhouse books and the first book was written before Twilight. It is not a knock off! Alan Ball does a great job with this series and it is intriguing to watch.

It's the best show on TV/cable bar none - blood, gore, sex, demons, shapeshifters, rednecks, and of course, hot vampires. Twilight is for tween suckers - abstinence and vampirism do not mix.

the books were made before even the twilight books so ppl can stop saying its a twilight rip-off. True Blood appeals to a more adult audience than twilight. i do think, however, that it does get some of its apeal because of the twilight hype.

I watch True Blood because it ISN'T Twilight. It's actually a show about vampires for adults. And as Charlaine Harris started writing the Sookie Stackhouse books years before little Stephanie Meyers put out Twilight, the fact that Twilight gets all the cred for making it popular is boo-worthy.

Okay honey, first off the True Blood novels have been out way before Twilight even became a stupid tween girl fad.
Second of all Twilight does not even come into comparison with True Blood, True blood (both the novels and the series) fucking owns Twilight.
These books (and show) actually have a an existent plot from the very beginning and also the characters are very well put together UNLIKE the twilight characters.
