"The Governor wants to cut the budget for public libraries by 50%. About 70% of public libraries in Ohio are funded solely by this fund, so cutting the already shrinking budget means library closures, layoffs and cutbacks in hours and materials.
We have until June 30th to get our voices heard. ACT NOW!"

Thanks for bringing this issue to a much broader audience! This cut would be devastating to communities all over Ohio. The library is the only resource so many people have in this economically difficult time. Thanks Perez!
Thanks for featuring this, Perez. As an Ohioan, I know how important this issue really is.
Nice to see this issue is getting national attention. Thanks bunches Perez for putting this up hopefully all the libraries will stay open.
Perez, you rock for putting this up on your site. As an Ohioan, this is an extremely important issue. this is only one of the devastating cuts Gov. Strickland is proposing. it is horrible! I have lost all respect for him. Thanks again perez!
How did you know? I'm a facebook fan of this…hmmm…
LOL!
thanks from an Ohioan for raising the issue - this is a serious issue that our state is facing, but kind of swept under a rug with everything else going on economically. shoot, if we don't pass a tax hike in august, 200 of our police officer and 200 firefighters will get laid off here in columbus. times are tough! thanks!
Thanks, Perez! This is a very important issue that even many Ohioans haven't heard about unless they visit a library's website. In hard economic times our brains shouldn't have to suffer, too!
perez, thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention. and a person who was raised in ohio loving libraries, and moved back to columbus, this is so much more important than the numerous gambling related issues that gov. strickland is focused on. please, everyone go to this website, and write to gov. strickland TODAY. we need our libraries.
i live in ohio as well and really hope this doesn't happen! thank u for bringing attention to it!
THIS IS AN AMAZING POST . HOW GREAT FOR THE PEOPLE OF OHIO TO KNOW YOU ARE ON THEIR SIDE . YOU ARE ALWAYS AHEAD OF OTHER WEBSITES IN YOU BRINGING OF KEY ISSUES TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC . YOUR MOM MUST BE SO PROUD OF YOU. I HAVE BEEN VISITING PUBLIC LIBRARIES SINCE I WAS 13 . THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you Perez!
I am thrilled that you responded to my email and posted this information. This link is now circulating around the Libraries Administration Offices and hopefully will soon reach Gov. Strickland and MILLIONS more will know about the peril Ohio's Libraries face. There's still time to win this fight!
Thanks for bringing this to national attention, Perez! I am a fan of this on Facebook. People need to know about this issue!! THANK YOU!
I'm from OH, and thank you so much for putting this up!! THANK YOU!!
Thanks so much for bringing attention to this issue. I recently moved to Ohio. I use my local branch weekly and am about to have a baby girl. I would be so sad if my library was closed! Thanks!!!!!
As a former employee with the Cuyahoga County Public Library system, I understand how important it is for this budget cut to cease and desist. Without the money allotted us, we would no longer be able to provide the materials and programming that patrons have grown to know and love over the years. Please support your local libraries, wherever you are. Don't let them take a good thing away from us!
Perez, thank you for posting about this!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Im from ohio, and generally go to the library to get my movies and such…it would be such a shame for the budget cut, when people do rely on these libraries! thanks Perez!
Not to mention the fact that Ohio boasts one of the best library systems in the country. The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is one of the top ten systems in the United States.
Thanks for this Perez! As an Ohioan, I appreciate you posting about this on your site. Drastically cutting back on libraries at a time when people really need them is bad news.
This disrespect to the puerto rican flag !
This is disrespect to the puerto rican flag !
Re: Princ3ss – If you knew what the Ohio flag looked like, you would know it's a representation of Ohio's state flag, no disrespect toward Puerto Rico.
I live in a small town in Ohio and this news is devastating. Our library is the main source of activity in our town. They hold movie night, study groups for students, story time for babies and toddlers, craft night and they have an after school program with crafts, story time, study time and other activities for the latchkey kids. It will most likely close if this budget cut goes through. The nearest library is 20 minutes away. Not much help to those students who don't drive. Thank you, Perez for for bringing this to everyones attention.
Thank you for bringing this issue to a broader audience. I hope that this can help give us the extra push we need to stop our Governor from making these horrific cuts. Unfortunately our Governor has made many errors in judgment on many things. He also wants to reform our educational system. His team is covering this up with ads that say his reform plan will only help the children of Ohio. Unfortunately this is not so. He wants to spend money that Ohio and our schools do not have to extend the school day and school year. By doing so, schools would possibly have to make MASSIVE cuts to afford this. Let’s hope that Governor Ted Strickland gets his act together and starts to make decisions that actually make sense.
Oh REAL nice! Really WTF is the matter with people?! WE NEED LIBRARIES!!!
It's SO VERY important to be able to get the materials that you upon subject matters, as well as have a nice place to go to read and just chill out! I mean the library is like a mecca to Me! SUPPORT SUPPORT PEOPLE!!!!!!!
THANK YOU PEREZ! WE APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET FOR OUR LIBRARIES IN OHIO!
Perez, as an Ohioan I really appreciate you bringing attention to this issue. Our local public library is an awesome resource that my family loves to use.
Thank you!!
why is the ohio state flag so similar to the Puerto Rican flag? :\
Yay! Way to go for posting this. No more dumbing down of Americans! We love our libraries here in Ohio~
thanks perez from an Ohioan!!!
I am not from Ohio but I am a librarian whose library system has been going through some rough times over the past year and a half. Kudos to Perez for calling this a "worthy cause".
Thank you Perez from an Ohio Librarian! As someone already mentioned, Ohio has the best libraries in the nation. These cuts would be devastating to our libraries and it would come at the worst possible time. When the economy is bad, people need libraries more than ever. I appreciate you bringing this issue to a broader audience.
As an ohioan, this is major to our state. My son is almost 4 and he was so excited the other day to get his own library card. We make weekly trips to the library for new books to read to read to him. With the economy the way it is, if our local libraries were to close then we would have to spend $$$$ to buy him the books he likes to read, or drive over 40 minutes to get to the closest open library instead of just minutes down the road.
Thanks Perez for making this a worthwhile cause!!!
And Princ3ss, the icon is our state flag and is not disrespectful to any other country or person, it has been our state flag since 1803 and we are very proud of it and the libraries play on it.
Thank you for featuring this and bringing this to others' attention. I am from Ohio and grew up going to the local libraries with my grandmother almost weekly.
Thanks for posting about our libraries, Perez! We need as much exposure and support as we can get.
xoxo
Thanks Perez for getting the word out! Your peeps in Ohio love you!
Yay Perezito for putting this on your site. As a native Ohioan, I love my local library! I also feel as some others mentioned on this site, that in this economy, a lot of people really need their local library for job research or computer usage or to just plain read a newspaper!
I live in SE Ohio and it is one of the poorest regions of the state. There is often a wait for people to get on the computers and it is not all teens! There are many adults that need to come in to look for work or work on resumes, etc. Plus, our libraries just rule! One of the greatest thing I loved about our library system was the bookmobile! If you lived in a rural area, like I did as a child, you could go to the bookmobile and pick out books, order others, and return books. I would REALLY hate to see that go! I am a voracious reader and love to see people go to the library and enjoy all that it offers.
Thank you, Perez for posting this. I love our libraries and hope your exposure helps. Thanks you!!
send them books.
As most others have said, thanks for posting this. I've emailed all the state representatives already this past week and I've encouraged all my friends to do the same. I live in a tiny town and the library is pretty much the only source of entertainment around!
Thanks Perez! As an Ohio library worker and future college freshman my job is more important to me than anything. Especially with the way the economy is. I know all of us in the ohio public library system appreciate this attention to the issue that affects the lives of so many in our great state and country.
Thanks so much Perez for posting this. As an Ohio library employee and future college freshman my job and my library mean everything to me. I see families that cant afford much during this economy come into our library everyday. The look on their childrens faces when they can get movies and read books is priceless. Our libraries are so important to us Ohioans. I know that everyone is very thankful for you making this post!! Thanks again for supporting this worthwhile cause!
Thanks Perez! I know many people who work at these libraries and they were happy to hear that you posted something about this issue!
