Michael Jackson's Hometown Wants To Bury Him There, Have Him Lie in State

With Michael Jackson's public viewing coming up, the question remains where the King of Pop will be laid to rest.
As we mentioned earlier, a public viewing has been confirmed for this Friday at Neverland Ranch, followed by a private memorial service scheduled for Sunday.
But, now, Rudy Clay, the mayor of Jackson's hometown of Gary, Indiana, is contacting the Jackson family in order to make get MJ there - and keep him there!
And even if Jackson won't be buried in Indiana, they at least want to hold a memorial service.
In fact, a memorial service has already been set for July 10th at the U.S. Steel Works ballpark in Gary.
According to Clay, "I believe that his body will lie in state in Gary, Indiana. Now, it may not happen, but I believe it will." Adding that it would be "a memorial that's fit for the prince of peace and a memorial that's fit for Gary, Indiana's favorite son, the greatest entertainer that ever lived."
As for the burial site, it can go near a proposed Jackson family museum and performing arts center.
But, we're guessing the final decision might be up to Jackson's parents - or his own will!

Michael never forgot where he came from and he did make visits to Gary and his childhood home. However, he wasn't terribly thrilled he was from Indiana on his MJ: Unauthorized interview and would have rather been from a more exotic locale. I respect whatever the family decides, if it was that important to Michael he would have specified someplace.
I live close to Never-Land Ranch Although I have never been there is only 15 to 25 minutes away.

Have any of you been to Gary Indiana? Its the one of most dangerous city in the U.S, not somewhere u would want to drive through even during the day! I highly doubt MJ made many trips there. Its a rough neighborhood.

I don't live very far from Gary- a few hours. And it's universally known here in Indiana that you DON'T EVER GO TO GARY. It's nasty and dangerous- lots of drugs and gangs and all that since the factories shut down. It's best for everyone involved (fans included) to keep Michael and his family out of Gary. Not that the Jackson's would let him go back, but still…
Considering MJ didn't even like Gary, Indiana, it seems ridiculous to lay his body to rest there. It is a glum, grey town with nothing else going for it except the fact that the Jacksons used to live there, hence the reason that they are trying to cash in on his death. With a gravesite and crappy museum, they figure that they will have tourists for years.. what losers. Most people would probably head to Neverland Ranch in California to pay their respects before they would trek out to Indiana..

i live in indiana and Gary is po-dunk. It sounds to me like they just want an excuse to set up a "come see Michael Jackson's grave." It should totally help their economy and i understand wanting to do it, but at the same time, that's a human being and that's not fair to just parade him around and use him for publicity.

The people of the city of Gary on not the only ones who admired him and loved his music, the whole world did!

I believe Michael should be buried in a private location befitting the King of Pop's legendary status; the way Princess Diana burial site is secluded from the public. That way the Jackson family & close friends can mourn Michael in privacy.
Neverland Ranch should be converted into museum in rememberance of Michael & his importance in Music History.

Jackson did the moon walk and made a few records and then got caught with his hands down several kids pants. He spends all the city's money on himself buying cars and the like while the residents of Gary live in squalor. What was once a thriving and beautiful town has now become an eye sore that the only souloution would seem to be to bulldoze it down and start anew. From what I heard on AC360, MJ didn't mention where he wants to bury in his will. As an INFJ, I have an intuition that he doesn't want to be buried. I saw MJ as an asset of US, the King of Pop originated from America! I strong suggest that they should preserved his body, considering him as an icon of pioneer plastic surgeries, a man who is brave enough to alter his face/fate. I think he is a man that even the younger generation should take a look at. I want a museum of him, and with his body over there. I am sure, lots and lots of people from all over the world will come and mourn him, it's another good way to generate revenue as well.
