Jackson's Nurse Speaks!

Filed under: Drugs > Michael Jackson

wenn52584352__opt-1.jpg

Due to Michael Jackson's persistent insomnia over the last few months, he became desperate for powerful sedatives - despite warnings that it could be detrimental to his health.

Cherilyn Lee, a nurse who provided the pop star with nutritional counseling, says that she regularly denied his demands for the drug Diprival.

On June 21st, she received a frantic call from Jackson's staff that made Lee suspect that he obtained the drug elsewhere.

"He called and was very frantic and said, `Michael needs to see you right away.' I said, 'What's wrong?' And I could hear Michael in the background …, 'One side of my body is hot, it's hot, and one side of my body is cold. It's very cold,'" Lee says. "I said, `Tell him he needs to go the hospital. I don't know what's going on, but he needs to go to the hospital … right away," the nurse continued. "At that point, I knew that somebody had given him something that hit the central nervous system," she said, adding, "He was in trouble Sunday and he was crying out."

Jackson never went to the hospital and passed away four days later.

Despite the rumors about Jackson's pill-popping, Lee claims he was tortured by sleep deprivation and expressed opposition to recreational drug use.

"He wasn't looking to get high or feel good and sedated from drugs. This was a person who was not on drugs. This was a person who was seeking help, desperately, to get some sleep, to get some rest," Lee insists. "I don't know what happened there. The only thing I can say is he was adamant about this drug."

Diprivan, also known as Propofol, is an intravenous anesthetic drug used in operating rooms to induce unconsciousness. The drug can be very lethal as it doesn't take a dose much larger than the medically recommended amount to stop a person's breathing.

"I had an IV and when it hit my vein, I was sleeping. That's what I want," Lee said Jackson told her. "He said, `I don't like drugs. I don't want any drugs. My doctor said it's safe. It works quick and it's safe as long as somebody's here to monitor me and wake me up. It's going be OK."

Jackson would not give the doctor's name.

"I think it's so wrong for people to say these things about him," says Lee, who had only kind words for Michael. "He was a wonderful, loving father who wanted the best for his children."

Sad.

  7. 7

…this news is frightening at best, if true. "For All We KNow' the people aaround MJ thought that they had it under control. What a shame and what a waste.

  8. 8

I find it laughable that this man claims to "not like drugs" or "didn't use drugs" Give me a break.. just because it's not heroine or cocaine doesn't mean you aren't a "drug addict".

I'm sure he was a pharmecutical zombie.

Just because they're made in a laboratory doesn't make them any different than somthing cooked up on the stove or cut up at the kitchen table.

Out of all of the stories that have been told, I somehow think this one is the closest to the truth. As someone who has suffered thru severe bouts of insomnia, I know how desperate one can get. And how clouded it can make your judgement. I just KNOW that whatever happened, it was accidental, and he was not just trying to cop a high anyway he could. He was trying to get some sleep and it just went wrong. I really think something like this will be the final cause of his death.

(posted on another prior thread today, but reposting her because it applies)
Wow! Propofol (Diprivan)…..I have been an Intensive Care Nurse for over 8 years and for someone to use this at home is completely ludicrous. This drug is given in the OR and in ICU's to induce unconsciousness. Just a little too much (I'm talking milliliters difference) can place someone from sleeping, to someone who is unable to breath on their own, to someone with a dangerously low blood pressure, and then cardiovascular collapse. It is a great drug in the hospital setting, but is monitored very, very closely. In a home environment, wow. And to use for insomnia, that is so plain STUPID!! I can't imagine a doctor, who is practicing by the Hippocratic Oath (Do no Harm), would even suggest to use this in a home environment for insomnia. I really hope it's not true. But, being very familiar with this medication, I will admit it could do what happened to MJ. Scary stuff!

Re: mandie – You might as well keep wishing b/c the MJ circus has just began.

  14. 14

okay. to be brutally honest.. i think this whole Micheal Jackson thing is being blown out of proportion. I think its ridiculous that the media is still reporting about the custody of his kids, even his kids birth records, how MJ died, his drug abuse & all this stuff that shouldn't be focused on. Micheal has passed away & everyone needs to accept that, RESPECT that & move on . I hope that His kids & the Jackson family will be able to mend through without these reports blasting everywhere. He has passed away & all this media isn't allowing him to rest in peace.

  15. 15

    …………..

  16. 16

Re: canadiana717 – Well the man was 50 for christ sakes, the drugs in his day were Cocaine , Heroin and e.t.c. Pharmaceutical medications wern't considered "addictive drugs" at the time.

  17. 17

Why are we drowning in Michael coverage here? Perez, you didnt even mention Farrah Fawcett's funeral yesterday. Come on, we're sick of hearing about the drug addict that didnt think he was one because he didnt have to buy his fix off the streets.

  22. 22

    this is so sad…

  23. 23

There is always that bullshit qualifier that drug addicts use. "Oh, I'm not into RECREATIONAL Drugs." I only take what drugs I need to sleep, think, get throught the day, etc…. Trust me, if he wasn't into drugs, then why did he admit he was addicted to painkillers years ago? She was probably providing him with stuff like vicodin and then he moved up to harder stuff and she got scared.

  24. 24

the media and all the crap he was put true because other ppl said this or that about him are responsible for this. imagine to be the worlds most famous man, and to be publically bashed for 30 years.. oh good.. i hope he is finally at peace now. nobody can hurt him. he's out of his pain, but we are out of our joy.

NOW! I understand clearly our world is in deep sin………………………………………Oh My Good. but this woman is no liar , she is talking the truth. But the strangest shocker i got was that they are now saying the children are not his biological children?????????????????????????????? a DNA is seriously needed. That confirms people from all walks of life was Milking Michael Jackson of his MONEY. What a shame and disgrace to the Human race. One does not know whom to trust these days not even the smoking president we had hope in…………………………………..Jah save us .

  30. 30

Perez-why is it so hard for you to give the source and credit of where the article came from. You are on the verge of a lawsuit. And one day it will happen! Stop trying to act like a journalist that obtained the story yourself and give credit where credit is due!

  31. 31

Anyone on Diprivan has to be on a ventilator. It's what they use for a general anesthetic. Obviously someone is either lying, or someone didn't bother to tell Mr. Jackson. If someone gave him Diprivan and his breathing wasn't assisted, they should be arrested.

  32. 32

Re: canadiana717 – What part of Canada are you from♥?

  33. 33

thats NOT sleeping, that is KNOCKING HIMSELF OUT AND he would need proper BREATHING apararatus to make him breath like when under for surgery.
this is criminal and inSANE to be PUTTING HIMSELF OUT EVERY TIME HE WANTED TO " SLEEP "" .anesthetic is dangerous even when supervised .

Re: Long Dong Connery – hee-hee…. see ya soon baby..

  45. 45

Diprivan? What asshole of a doctor or pharmacist would allow this to be dispensed for home use? We use this in ICU to maintain comfort through decreased level on consciousness for patients on ventilators. This cannot be given without airway support or without an anesthesiologist or a nurse trained in conscious sedation. Absurd.

  46. 46

Re: Long Dong Connery – Long Dong you are one busy man! You may need several smokes before the day is over. How are you?

  47. 47

And, no way would I take a drug like that! I hate to be put to sleep for surgery. I try my best to take it on the chin if they would let me. That god
for epi's! A little hole in the back and no pain!

  48. 48

    My bad! Thank god …

  49. 49

Perez, you shouldn't write about Michael Jackson until you apologize for accusing him of faking his death in the first place. Take responsibility for what you've said.

  50. 50

They can spin it in any way that sounds better, but the fact is he was a drug abuser. The feds wouldn't be involved otherwise. Any statements saying he wasn't, or that he didn't condone drug use is ridiculous. It's also ridiculous to claim he was in good health. Does he look healthy?? He probably passed a physical because people saw the dollar signs and knew he had to pass to perform. A wonderful father also wouldn't use these drugs in the presence of his children or dangle one of them over a balcony railing. or make them wear elaborate masks in public. (doesn't a mask like that cause more attention??) There are many other ways to protect them. He was a musical genius, but he was also a deeply damaged and severely troubled person. May he finally RIP.

  51. 51

Bro my cousin is not a liar. She also works for Stevie Wonder.
