R.I.P. Heathers 2
Filed under: Film Flickers > Winona Ryder
Sorry folks. It seems the original Wino fooled us all into thinking there was a chance. Unfortunately, word from the man behind the camera, director Michael Lehmann, is that no sequel for Heathers is in the works at all!
Though Winona Ryder swore to God that the sequel was happening, Michael reveals he has spoken to writer Dan Waters, who admitted he knew nothing about a sequel.
Michael explains: "I know there’s no script and no plans to do the sequel."
Damn! Well, why not we ask?
Michael answers:
"It’s funny to me. I love Heathers and I loved doing that movie. I’m very proud of it, so if it gets brought up, I’m happy. Generally, though, I don’t like sequels at all. If the movie’s good the first time, why bother? With something like The Matrix, for example, it feels like a trilogy, or with a comic-book movie, those movies were based on something that was created in a serial format. So a movie as specific as Heathers, which took place in a specific time and specific place and in which many of the characters got killed off, I never thought it made sense to see a sequel."
Or maybe you're just too damn lazy to use that seemingly creative brain of yours to think up a way to do a sequel. If Winona can whip up some ideas, it shouldn't be too hard!
What do y'all think? Should a sequel happen?

"So a movie as specific as Heathers, which took place in a specific time and specific place and in which many of the characters got killed off, I never thought it made sense to see a sequel." Hey stupid! He just explained why there won't be a sequel. It's HIS movie. Try writing a sequel with your "semingly creative brain" yourself! And why are you all insulting about it? don't you usually hate sequels and remakes?
I think it's funny how if it's a movie you're not excited about, you say MORE UNORIGINALITY FROM HOLYWOOD!!
but
if it's something you like, it's amazing and DEFINITELY should happen…
you also do that w/ song covers.
hypocrite
Don't remember much of the first one.
first
Sorry to say I have to agree with the director. I don't believe they left any room for a sequel. Heather's was a great movie, and I think we should just leave it alone.
NO! it would ruin the first movie and will suck.
just like how grease 2 sucked.
I LOVED THE FIRST MOVIE…AND I THINK THAT I WOULD BE HARD, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE ANOTHER ONE THAT WOULD STAND A CHANCE TO BE EVEN PARTLY AS GOOD AS THE FIRST…THO I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HOW THEY COULD EVEN MAKE IT INTO A SEQUEL….BUT I THINK THAT ITS BEST THAT THEY ARE LEAVING WELL ENOUGH ALONE….I ALSO AGREE WITH THE DIRECTOR…SEQUELS ARENT ALL THAT GREAT…
NO SEQUEL!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!
Re: cinamae – Grease 2 may have sucked, but you have to admit. . .it is hilarious. Definitely something to brighten your mood when you're feeling down.

no! the original is awesome & a sequel could never compare. let sleeping dogs lie.
Sounds like a great idea. And after that he can start work on a sequel to Romeo & Juliet.
"too damn lazy to use that seemingly creative brain of yours to think up a way to do a sequel"? It's the lack of a "creative brain" & a "lazy" way to approach movie making, (if a movie is a success and makes a lot of money) to whip up a sequel! Let's see more originality at the box-office! NO MORE SEQUELS! If you make a movie and it's a success, MOVE ON! NEXT…
Noooo! I was looking forward to it. Most of the little kids that post here probably have no clue what 'Heathers' is!
Re: jimmyjazz – Amen, Jimmy Jazz. Bunch of bitches!
Perez, you're a fucking moron. They make a sequel or rehash an old movie, you tell them they're fucktards. They leave well enough alone, you tell them they're lazy. Get bent, asshole. Seriously.
Your website is proof positive that 1) you don't have to be of any use to society in order to make a living, and 2) I will read just about anything when bored out of my mind.
…one of my training films. Loved that flick.
Re: jimmyjazz – awesome, to the point, excellent comment.
No sequel!!!
Thank God. A sequel would have been a huge mistake. I think I'll go watch Heathers to celebrate. "Corn….nuts!" *crash*
I remember Winona talking about a sequel when she was promoting "Reality Bites". So they've obviously been thinking about doing it, then not doing it, for awhile. It doesn't make sense to do a sequel and I agree with the director in that it took place in a specific time and that it probably wouldn't even make sense to do another one some 20 years later. Just pop in the original and enjoy it's fabulousity.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! stop destroying my childhood!
Did you have a brain tumor for breakfast? First you ask if you can be red, knowing I'm always red. Easy shot Heather, no way, no day.
-any excuse to quote heathers, and I will
What movie is this?
I watched the movie a few days ago, and i'm can't stop watching! I LOVE IT!!!!
))))
Seriously, one of the best movies ever. Ryder and Slater have so much chemistry! So i would definetly LOVE it if there were a sequal…
damn lazy writers:((((((
Fuck me gently with a chain saw…
what's your damage heather?
DAMN Winona and Christian had so much chemistry! I would LOVE if they reunited again, if not in heathers the sequal.. then in a romantic comedy or something….. ANYTHING!
Re: jones19 –
You haven't seen it? HEATHERS! go watch it. effin aamzing:)
You bitch about all the sequels and remakes, but now you're bitching about NOT making a sequel? Wtf.
heathers was one of the best movies ever made. it was perfect. so i see the point of not wanting to do a sequel… sort of. but if they did it right, stayed true to the original and do a very good job, it could be a hit. winona all grown up with a teen daughter rebel? hot. just don't do another stupid hollywood re-mock. i'm tired of these crappy re-makes that just mock the original art. it started with brady bunch, and is completely out of control with land of the lost. if you're not going to bother to make a serious re-make, then don't bother at all. mocking all our childhood tv shows and movies just sucks the life out of the originals. seriously, what's her face as a blonde daisy duke? please just kill me. that shoudl never have happened. someone should have pulled their head out of her crack long enough to know it was just a bad idea. but on apositive note, i could see heathers coming back with a bang if they brought in all the teen angst and modern issues like terrorism and activism and environmentalism. and out of control celebu-sluts. i think it just might rock!
Thank goodness there is No sequel!!!
I WANT A FUCKING SEQUEL BITCH
it was a dumb idea to even think about making a sequel
i don't even remember what happened on the first one…and i highly doubt anyone else does either
give this sequel crap a rest. it's so annoying. bringing back old shows, like 90210, melrose place…..it's just so unoriginal and lame when they're actually some decent shows on tv right now….like mad men, etc…
annoying
I'M THE REAL HEATHER !!!!
michael's right. it was a great movie but a sequel would be a bad idea. ryder is a psycho.
A Heathers sequel would be very
No heathers 2 movie, BUT the composer of Bat Boy and Legally Blonde supposedly has a Heathers musical in the works…
I agree with Michael - leave it alone
Heathers doesn't need sequel. All of the actors who played the surviving characters are a bit too old for one now anyway so it would have to be re-cast unless it was set many years later.
To those who think that bad sequels somehow ruin the original movie… How does a sequel or even a remake ruin a pre-existing movie? That movie is still there, unchanged. If you liked it before, you'll still like it. And if you don't like the idea of a sequel, then don't watch it.
AND QUIT, FUCKING, TYPING IN ALL CAPS. THE CAPS LOCK BUTTON IS ON THE LEFT OF YOUR KEYBOARD. TURN IT OFF AND KNOCK THAT SHIT OFF. YOU'VE BEEN USING A KEYBOARD LONG ENOUGH NOW TO KNOW BETTER.
