Texas Bar Raid Victim Speaks!

Chad Gibson, the victim of homophobic police brutality last weekend at the Rainbow Lounge in Fort Worth, Texas, is not keeping silent about the incident!

Good!!!!

Gibson wants the Fort Worth police officers to be prosecuted for their use of unnecessary force which resulted in a blood clot in his brain and a week-long stay at a Texas hospital.

"You used excessive force and that's why I got hurt," said Gibson in a recent television interview. "Even if the Fort Worth Police didn't touch me, they watched it. They watched other people do that to me."

Gibson is terrified at what will happen if doctors cannot treat the blood clot and is infuriated that the Fort Worth Police would try and claim they had to use force because they were harassed and "groped" by bar patrons.

The Forth Worth police officers involved in the brutality should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law!!!

it is so unfair! down with those cops!

      SUE THE F*CKERS!

    3. 3

Goes to show being gay doesnt pay

    4. 4

I agree, when I read this type of shit it makes me sick to my stomach. Just because you carry a badge and a gun does not give you the right to take your own personal beliefs out on people. Cops should be held to a higher standard, they are supposed to be there to protect us, not attack us and leave us in fear of calling them for help. It's this kind of shit that promotes vigilante justice… pathetic.

    5. 5

      I don't get it… ?

    6. 6

I don't know what happened and I'm not homophobic. Whyt everytime something happens to a Gay person whether they got hit are whatever, they want to hide behind the 'Hate Crime Act" Some gay people, like some black people, like some white people or just plain jerks. I'm tired of of walking on egg shells or treating them special because they are gay and I don't want to come off as homophobic.

    7. 7

I love how the police's excuse is that some guys flirted with them. It's funny, I don't see the police yanking women out of their cars and beating them half to death for trying to flirt their way out of a ticket.

The idea that these policemen are so weak that they are terrified by a guy flirting is almost as ridiculous as their claiming that the bar patrons actually WERE flirting with them. NOBODY is going to flirt with a dozen cops holding billie clubs raiding a bar.

    8. 8

Sounds like he doesn't even know what happened. Who is "you"? If's? Not exactly smart to be talking publicly, if he's wanting an investigation. Why won't Perez publish reports from patrons (yes, gays) in the bar who said this guy was BEYOND intoxicated to the point where he could barely speak or walk?

    9. 9

There you go again Perez, talking about medical issues which you don't understand.

"Gibson is terrified at what will happen if doctors cannot treat the blood clot."

Genius, no MD would allow a patient to be walking around with a blood clot or be doing interviews. If he had a clot that dislodged he could have a PE or stroke. Please shut up perez.

    10. 10

That kind of behavior makes me sick. I don't get why people hate on gays!

    11. 11

Also, one of the comments in the original story asks a good question : My question is: Did you grope him? I haven't seen anywhere you have denied that claim. I myself, am a gay man. However, there comes a point and time where you need to be responsible for your own actions. If you did "grope" him then that is considered assault, no matter where you live.

    12. 12

YEAH ANYONE WHO COMMITS A HATE CRIME SHOULD BE TOTALLY PROSECUTED TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW.
      RIGHT, "FUCKING F*****????"

    13. 13

I think cops abuse their power. They think they can use brute force whenever they had a bad day. I dont see why they should have that power, Gay or not, theres no reason for that shit if they arent struggling or fighting back. No one respects cops anymore because of that shit

    14. 14

Re: Mrs.Lewinsky – I think he has valid reasons to speak out.. I would recommend doing your research, this case is one of the many injustice that people face regardless of your sexual orientation, race, gender… It's very unfortunate and It is my hope that the courts will see that.

    15. 15

Cops are freakin' assholes in the state of Texas. Believe me, I live in the great state. Most are backwoods, country good old boys, who have the IQ of 50. My mother is a 60 year old retired teacher who got pulled over because she was going 5 miles over the speed limit down a country road. She had antique furniture in her car and they searched her vehicle and insinuated that she stole the furniture. She was actually storing it at my home while she was moving and had come to pick it up. I have no respect for these idiots and Barney Fife rejects. I hope these cops that are supposed to protect and serve end up in prison and become someones bitch.

    16. 16

Re: Spindoc Probably shouldn't open your mouth unless you know the details. It makes all those standing up for this guy look even worse.

    17. 17

If the cops didn't touch him as he says, how can he be a victim of police brutality?

    18. 18

Dispicable behaviour of them ignorant police officers! they're a disgrace to the badge, the law, the state, those victims, the country and themselves!

here's to positive change coming out of this….to expose those evil bastards for who they truly are!!

    19. 19

Re: Kora_21 So your mother was breaking the law and that's the cops fault?

    20. 20

Re: I Like Myself – you said "Also, one of the comments in the original story asks a good question : My question is: Did you grope him? I haven't seen anywhere you have denied that claim. I myself, am a gay man. However, there comes a point and time where you need to be responsible for your own actions. If you did "grope" him then that is considered assault, no matter where you live. "
      _______________________________________________________

Actually plenty of witnesses says that there was no groping, HOWEVER, lets just assume that there was…there is also something police have to abide by called "Reasonable Force". This means that if they need to use force that is appropriate to the occaision, i.e. if somebody gropes a cop that means that the cop can knock his hand away and cuff him, it doesn't mean that 8 cops smash his head into a wall, knock him to the ground and beat him with clubs until he is unconcious.

    21. 21

I dont know the particulars, but I have a feeling someone might have had a BIG MOUTH, just like someone else, and might have wanted to force the gay issue, and now has paid the price for looking to stand up to authority. This is what happens when PEOPLE try to force issues on other persons who are not against equal rights. You get the opposite result, they turn on you like rabid dogs.

Re: Kora_21 – remember that when yr getting gang banged by a bunch of illegal mexicans…dont cry for the cops to help you…

    25. 25

What those cops did is shameful, they need to be prosecuted. SPEAK UP & SPEAK LOUDLY!!

    26. 26

      Re: MOMMIE DEAREST

      Are you retarded?

    27. 27

U are crackin me up on this. Either you are leaving out a lot of details about the "beat down" that this guy got or you are leaving out all the details and eyewitness accounts as to what actually happened…if somebody gropes a police officer - it undermines authority and it is ASSAULT you goob. …looks like you are jumping to conclusions about what happened. Automatically, the cops are brutal and bad… this drives me nuts when you assume law enforcement is evil. Get over it.

    28. 28

Re: SpindocK, but the fact is, no one saw what you claim. Not a single person has come out defending this guy. Not a single person has gone on record to say that ANY cop bashed him in the head, or whatever. It's quite possible ONE officer took him to the ground because he wouldn't let go and it happened. It's quite possible this guy fell completely on his own from being so drunk. And the most GLARING point - this guy has NOT, I repeat HAS NOT refuted the claims against him in the first place. He hasn't once said "I didn't do x, y and z." His complaint is with the way it was handled, leading to a logical conclusion something DID happen on his part.

Dear "I like Myself" - you sound like a rational person. thank you.

    31. 31

Texas isn't good place to be gay, Chad. Come to California. Maybe one day Texas will be good, but I doubt it will happen in our lifetime.

    32. 32

STFU about this no one cares so if they got their ass kicked they asked for it get the hell over it its Texas everyone knows there not tolerant
Besides your the last person that should be saying anything.

    33. 33

fuck goddamn queers he got what was coming to him .. hanging out in gay bars .. when i was younger they opened a homo bar in ybor city tampa right across from where they had nazi bands concerts and death metal shows and every week i would watch with glee as the nazis would follow the queers coming out of the homo bar and into the parking lot and the alley behind the clubs and beat them rob them and spit on them and the police usually patroling ybor were always strangely absent….THATS HOW THE FUCK U TREAT A GODDAMN QUEER !! U BEAT THE FUCK OUT OF THEM IN PUBLIC AND TEACH THEM TO KEEP THEIR DIRTY HOMO LIFESTYLE IN THE FUCKING CLOSET !!

    34. 34

      This is an outrage! Why?

    35. 35

Re: DatSuperHero – Once you are confronted by a Fort Worth Police officer you have only one right, and that is to follow his directions to the letter. Do not question his authority manners, choice of words, or smell! Simply put, Do Not Resist! They are setting you up for more charges every time you speak or act. The most powerful Legal system in the World is in your face. Accept it, or suffer the consequences! It is a no win situation for the citizens and a sad day for The city of Fort Worth and the Liquor control board officers involved. This National publicity is new to them. This Ain't L.A. with camera's on every corner. I hope this will give the Local Authorities a new outlook but it's not likely. Good luck with a building a legal case! They control that too! Steve Fort Worth Texas.

    36. 36

Oh brother. You gay moron…always blame it on the cops. Try keeing your homo self at home.

    37. 37

despite what people believe, dallas/fort worth is extremely gay friendly. i have lived here all my life and have many gay friends that would agree. i do feel sympathy for chad, but like many of you i do not fully believe he is quite as innocent as he wants us to believe.

    38. 38

Wow some of the comments are unbelieveable. I can't believe some of you are basing your opinion on the short blurb here. The people that were attacked by law enforcement have at every opportunity stated they did nothing to warrant this response. This behavior is exactly the same as we saw in the pre - Stonewall days and in the 50's and 60's against the black community. This behavior is inexcusable and cannot be torrerated.

    39. 39

THANK GOD!! THANK GOD HE IS ALIVE!!

      Chad keep getting well. xoxoox

    41. 41

Your missing my point completely. I didn't deny the fact that she was speeding, but come on 5 miles per hour over the speed limit on a Texas country road isn't the worst a person can do. To make her step out of her car and search her for having her furniture in her own car and then insinuate that she stole it shows what assholes cops are. I'm an RN and I had one pull me over in front of the hospital where I work and give me a ticket for going 3 miles over the speed limit. I'm 32 and that's the first ticket I have ever gotten. After he gave it to me, I said "I hope you're never a patient on my floor." They pulled my best friend and I over in front of my home and gave him a ticket. He basically harassed us for at least 15 minutes. I can go on and on, but I'm really tired of speaking and dealing with idiots.

    42. 42

Actually, you have no idea what your talking about. I'm a RN on a Neurological Intensive care unit in Texas and have been doing this for 9 years. We see this all the time. Most likely he suffered and subdural hematoma status post assault. Apparently is was small and stable enough that it didn't require a craniotomy (brain surgery) and he was able to be discharged from the neurosurgeons care. You won't throw a blood clot from your brain and suffer a pulmonary embolism. That's the most ludicrous information I have ever heard. Your body and anatomy doesn't work in that fashion. I could go on and on, but please quit giving medical advice when you have no medical background.

    43. 43

perez, you are right. violence is never the answer.

    44. 44

To: Perez…PLEASE DO NOT make this a gay-discrimination issue! IT IS NOT.
These certain individuals are claiming it such for a defense! That's it. AND it's stuff like this that does NOT HELP YOUR CAUSE, to which I'm behind 100%. IT does the opposite! IT works agaisn't it. Much like "playing the race card"…it's more harmful to take a issue and make it into something that it wasn't. It will do more damage to the integrity of the gay community than anything. I live in Ft Worth, and I am associated with many within the gay community and they all keep stating the same thing. That this issue is out of hand and is an embarrasment more than anything.

    45. 45

To: I LIKE MYSELF…. I couldn't agree more! I like you too! I actually KNOW some individuals that witnessed that night, and the guy was acting much like an "belligerent drunk" from what I'm told, along with many others. AND there were *sexual* advances made towards the TABC and other officers. THAT is most definitely agaisnt the law. The TABC won't stand for that in a second. THAT is what they were out there doing, collecting the public-intoxicated individuals, and if they want to act like that towards the TABC, they should be expected to be arrested on the spot. AS far as his medical condition, w/ the so-called blood clot, HOW IS IT HE IS OUT OF THE HOSPITAL ALREADY?? AND per HIPPA FEDERAL LAWS-medical professionals can NOT comment on his condition w/ out proper and complete permission. And no one has validated his claim, and no one can come out and say otherwise, because it is agaisnt FEDERAL law. So, he can call it as he sees fit-ya know-for more press time! He can go on declaring brain damage if he wanted, and his doctors can NOT come out and disagree. He should've just accepted responsibility and learn from the situation. DO NOT play around with the TABC, they do not stand for behavior such as what he displayed.

    46. 46

i can't believe incidents like this still happen. i feel sheltered living up here in Portland, Oregon surrounded by people who are far more liberal like me. I still say all of the south, mainly Texas, should just become its own country i'm tired of their intolerant bullshit.

    47. 47

Yup, that's my town. I wouldn't attribute it to the region, it's just that some cops thing they're "macho men" and that they can do whatever the heck they want. Which of course, they can't.

    48. 48

Good for you Perez for reporting this story..

    49. 49

This is just getting really pathetic. The fort worth police have apologized multiple times.

Secondly, does no one else realize that by making a big story out of this you are being just as discriminatory as the people who beat him? People get beat by the police often and you don't hear about it. So why is the story so special? So he likes men. Personally I couldn't care less what gender he likes.

It sucks that he has a blood clot but it happens. And no doctor is gonna let him go with a blood clot. So he gets the city of Fort Worth to pay for his hospital bills. Good for him. But don't make this a big story just because he is gay.

    50. 50

      Re: AnnaBanana3

You know, maybe before you speak out against a whole state you should go there. Not all texans are discriminatory. Most of us couldn't care less what gender you like. My guess is that there are some intolerant people wherever you are.

And maybe you should examine yourself for being intolerant again southern conservative types.

    51. 51

Re: Blablabla2009 – uhmmm it goes to show that idiotic bigots like you are whats wrong with america you fucking ignorant fuck.

    52. 52

Re: Mrs.Lewinsky – why would you have to walk on eggshells??? are you a redneck hick cop who used UNECESSARY force to arrest people for drunk in publics at a FUCKING BAR??? your an idiot and just as homophobic as the fuckers who did this. they will pay for their mistakes, mark my word lady. and karma will come back to bite you in the ass too. just wait, it probably already has..

    53. 53

Re: lwadehornedfrog – oh so its ok as long as they say their sorry? wow cause thats how it works here most of the time. and im sure they really mean it too. so your saying no repurcussions for those homophobic cops but its ok bc theyre saying sorry? and of course that means that those cops are never going to wrongly arrest people or discriminate again. ur an idiot. a naive idiot. travel out of your state more often..maybe even out of the country…go see the world you sheltered fuck.

    54. 54

Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief called on federal prosecutors Friday to ensure a thorough review of last week's raid at a gay bar that resulted in a serious head injury to one patron.
      =
Parallel investigations – one by Fort Worth police and another within the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission – are already under way into what happened Sunday at the Rainbow Lounge.
      =
And Police Chief Jeff Halstead has announced the indefinite suspension of bar checks conducted jointly by his department and TABC.

    55. 55

We've only heard one side to this story. Not saying it's right that he got the shit kicked out of him, but what is the whole story? Have the cops even released a statement?

    56. 56

Re: kdenkite – How is the Ft Worth gay community hoping this will be handled? While I am sure many wish this did not happen denying it happend will not make it go away. Are you suggesting excessive force used in a gay bar should not be publically discussed? I am also interested in know how the Ft Worth gay community thinks this type situation will not happen again in the future?

    57. 57

I hope those bastards get whats coming to them! Theres no need for homophobia in this day and age its 2009 Ffs. Its as if were taking one step forward and two steps back, hopefully justice will prevail.

    58. 58

How this can happen in today's times and go unpunished is ludicrous. I will try and not take offense with the state itself.

    59. 59

This is horrible! I hope those cops get fired and go to jail! Assholes!
Like this guy is going to grab a COP'S crouch! Pathetic, homophobic bullshit!

    60. 60

Re: Mrs.Lewinsky – Oh come on! This happened in a fucking GAY BAR! And you don't think it's a hate crime?
      Are you really that stupid?
The cops had NO reason to even be there!
      Give me a fucking break!

    61. 61

      Re: I Like Myself

Other patrons DID NOT say the guy was drunk, the COPS said it!
Other patrons said that this guy didn't do a damn thing and the cops just started pushing people around!
And people wonder why we have to have hate crime laws!

    62. 62

      Re: I Like Myself
I don't believe you're a gay man. If you are,you better learn to deal with that internalized homophobia! YOU of all people ought to know how the cops treat gay people! There was NO reason for them to even BE in the GAY bar.
The place was a brand new bar and the cops were pissed that it was a GAY BAR!
The bar's OWNER said this very thing,in an interview!

    63. 63

Bring on the video tape of this. I'm willing to BET these cops are lying sacks of shit!

He 'wants them prosecuted.' Can't say I blame him - but I doubt anyone else is going to do it. If that's what he wants, he'll probably have to do it himself.

She got beat up cuz she didn't have her makeup on. you know shes a tranny. right?

    66. 66

Re: davidsask – hey whore, what you up to.

    67. 67

I am married to a retired police inspector from the Met (London). Some of the stories of what goes on in some gay bars are shocking and downright illegal. I have gay friends - men and women and I have never had a problem with gay people and their rights as fellow himan beings. Problem is, as in the UK media, you only get one side of the story. He states that 'even if (the police) only watched' - well did they assault this guy or not? Seems more like he just wants to get alot of money in court to me - chances are he just got punched for being too frisky with the wrong guy and when the police arrived they broke up the fight…unfortunately the media is rigged against the authorities/police/social services etc., it just means that the people don't get the true story - only the one that sells papers and promotes the person intending to sue. I work in Social Services in the UK, we are always getting blamed for not taking kids away that are at risk - we can't take kids away, that is the courts decision and the amount of times that they reject our requests because the parents put on a good act are countless…it's frustrating when uninformed people blame those trying to make a difference. GRRRR!

    68. 68

Re: srgrimes – You lost all credibility when you stated…"The most powerful Legal system in the World is in your face."
      =
Notice how often the show COPS films in Ft Worth? Are they fame hungry or simply under funded?

    69. 69

Re: Mickey9661 – This bar needs bartender-controlled video cameras to protect themselves and their patrons from future encounters with authorities.

    70. 70

Ugh! You are giving us Texans a bad name ass hole! You are only trying to get us to feel sorry for your ass because you are gay and was Attacked! really? we all know there is more to the story than just being wrongfully attacked by police.

    71. 71

      unfair!! down with p. brutality

    72. 72

I live here in Dallas and from everything we've heard Chad Gibson did NOTHING to provoke those TABC agents. There are protests here everyday and we are not letting this go until those two TABC agents are FIRED and sued! Chad Gibson almost DIED, and it is unusual for a super conservative are like the Dallas/Fort Worth area to be sympathetic to gay causes, but this case went too far and regular straight people are outraged — probably because we know next time it could be US getting beaten senseless.
