China's central government has blocked the nation's access to almost all online networking sites such. as Twitter, most Google applications, and now, Facebook, essentially denying any "unapproved references to the violence" of last weekend's deadly riot in Xinjiang.
Talk about some intense censorship. Ignorance is not always bliss.
We are soooo lucky and happy to live in America!

The CNN broadcast in the UK shows numerous world news bulletins - whilst in the US - CNN broadcasts bulletins usually only related to does not even cover world news. It's true for any of the disbelievers, I've been living in China for 2 years and this is the first time that Facebook has been blocked for me. Luckily I have a proxy server handy :} We are censored in the US, but not to the blatant extent you see here. Portions of BBC coverage are blacked out on the TV while it's playing, I haven't been able to access YouTube for months… that's the way it is.

I live in Shanghai. Facebooks been down since yesterday night. We havent had youtube or flickr for a long time.
This nothing new folks - last week china govt. stopped google and apps like gmail etc for 2 days because of concerns over "porn". Even though you can buy a copied dvd of the good stuff from the grandma on the corner of the street - im not joking.

I read about this a few weeks ago in the washington post, but apparently because so many people opposed this, the government is quite embarrassed about it. i think that if people keep complaining, the government may lift this censorship.
however, this is not that bad. the government ,so far, has just blocked sites. censorship is even worse in the middle east, where the government can go so far as to find out all about a person's personal information (supposedly boasting the most elite technology for that job)
it is quite sad how americans cannot even live without a trifling thing as facebook, whereas people in the rest of the world live without many other essentials other than facebook.

You got the news wrong. They have blocked those networks to prevent the news of violence in Xinjiang to spread out. Not that I agree with that, but you guys would be really blind to think that western countries don't do that same.
