Since neither the Jackson family nor concert promoters AEG have volunteered to help cover the very expensive costs the city incurred for Michael's memorial today, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is asking the residents of LA for $$$$$$$!

As a teacher in California who was one of the 26,000 teachers laid off this year and searching for work, I have sat here thining to myself how many teachers are going to lose their jobs to make up for this funeral. The state of California is almost bankrupt. I think what the mayor is doing is asking those who CAN SPARE a few thousand dollars, to do so, be it the Jackson family or any family to contribute. Obviously, those who can't afford to, like my unemployed self, are not who he is asking. The Hiltons, the Spellings, the Kardashians, the kind of people who drop $1,000 on dinner, those are the people he's asking to contribute.

Lots of luck getting donations - If they need money, they should have SOLD the memorial tickets to help offset the cost but instead they were given away for free which was very nice, but unfortunately unscrupulous people took to selling them and profiting from their sale (or they went to waste because people couldn't claim them fast enough) And where are all these other people going, the ones who DON'T have tickets? I find it sad when a city so iconic as LA is so bankrupt it needs to ask civilians to pay for city services outside of a memorial. I do believe that it is Michael Jackson's family and friends civic duty to help pay for services needed to keep them safe and help the memorial run more smoothly.
