Since neither the Jackson family nor concert promoters AEG have volunteered to help cover the very expensive costs the city incurred for Michael's memorial today, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is asking the residents of LA for $$$$$$$!
Mayor Villaraigosa posted a link to the city's PayPal account on his Twitter!!!
Writes Villaraigosa:

For those of us who are fans, why not offer an official Michael Jackson Memorial Service Program for a donation to the city of LA.
For example, a program will be offered for $100 donation or more.
Another idea, offer a program and a dvd of the service for $200 donation or more.

seriously…? the fact that we may have to pay for his funeral isn't what irritates me. what gets me mad is that even after mj's death, people are still using him to get money. couldn't everyone involved in the production of this memorial provided their services free of charge as a final gesture of goodwill to him? such money-hungry people are so callous to the loss of someone so great.

As far as security, etc the employees working the funeral are being paid a salary. Are they not? Taxes already pay that. Fuck giving them anything else. This pervert has already gotten way more attention than deserved.

I think it's outrageous. It's customary for the family of the deceased to pay for their funeral. If the Jackson family wanted such an over the top funeral for Michael then they should pay for it. The financial burden should not be put on the taxpayers for something they were never consulted on or agreed to pay for. I'm an MJ fan but what the mayor is proposing is ludicrous and he should be laughed out of town. And the Jackson family should be ashamed of themselves for expecting others to pay for something they are responsible for.

I don't live in CA, but i do have family that lives there. The Jacksons (and those wealthy celebrities who participated in the memorial) should pay for the security. They are the ones who okay'd the idea to parade their dead son/brother's body around one last time. They can afford to put him in a 25 grand coffin and drive escalades and range rovers, but can't afford security for something THEY put on. If it was anyone else's memorial/funeral, the family would be EXPECTED to foot the bill. Why not in this case? Because he was famous? Bullshit.
To those who are saying they are only asking for donations: NOW they are asking for donations but if they do not get the money they need or not enough, then guess where the money to pay for the expense is going to come from: the TAXPAYERS (and i am guessing not just of LA, but also of CA. and maybe the USA if CA doesn't have enough money).

Wow, most of the people who commented don't know how to read properly. They are asking money (the city not the jacksons family) to pay for the security not the memorial. The jacksons don't have to pay for the police to be there. It's a service provided by the city when they are afraid things could go wrong. If a professional sport team wins a championship do they have to pay for the security if people gather to celebrate. The answer is no. It's the same thing here.

This clown is full of shit! A donation plate should have been passed yesterday during the memorial so that all of the rich mourners could have chipped in. Let them put their money where their tears are. The Jackson family is ultimately responsible for any expenses incurred in burying MJ, not the general public.
