John Mayer Honored To Have Honored MJ

wenn-johnmayer123121.jpg

It was a great privilege and pleasure for John Mayer to be apart of the memorial service for Michael Jackson on Tuesday. Along with other "unbelievable" performances , John performed an instrumental version of Jackson's hit Human Nature and felt pride knowing it was the family that requested his presence.

"The first thing I said was a question - does this really come from the family? I think that was essential to me sort of processing the honor," he says. "And when I found out that, in fact, it had, it took me about 48 hours to sort of strike the balance in how I was going to approach being — you know, being invited to this unbelievable event without actually having the proximity to Michael Jackson, personally. I'd never met him."

As to why he didn't sing along with the popular song, he reveals it was what was "best" for him as he understood that "it's quite a mine field to go into trying to in any way replicate vocally what Michael Jackson has done."

When John looks back on the memorial, he admits that he'll remember how "humanizing it was. You know, Michael Jackson wasn't super human. He was extra human" and that "the best service of all was the service done to Michael Jackson to sort of render him finally as being a human being."

Very well said.

    6. 6

I watched his preformance it was UHMAZING! he makes me wish i could play the guitar.

    7. 7

      he bugs me

    8. 8

HOTNESS. I just wanted to mute the t.v. when he was interviewing post show b/c he seemed so fake. He was still VERY easy on the eyes.

    9. 9

I do not mean to be ugly, but I am so glad he did not sing. His guitar contribution was enough - and probably very appreciated.

    10. 10

he sucked at this memorial. his guitar playing was mediocre.

    11. 11

      he looked so good !

    12. 12

I love him i see why he has so many woman wanting his azz!!! oh and he play his azz off at the memorial!

    13. 13

MJ's family should NOT have those kids. Everyone of the siblings has claimed to be abused by Joe Jackson. MJ had claimed to be sexually abused, but now the world thinks it's okay to give the mom the grandkids??? She was right there where the abuse happens–doesn't anybody see anything wrong with this picture? This has to be the most dysfunctional family in the world and they just wanna hand over these kids to them??? At least Debbie Rowe hasnt' proven herself to be a drug addled child molester….and until then, at least she should get the kids. The Jackson family has proved they can't raise children correctly.

    14. 14

      he was a pedo…

    15. 15

I love this man. I think the had the best performance of all. Everyone who calls him a douche bag can go fuck themselves. It's sad that people can't recognize real talent.

    16. 16

If they were gonna get a guitar player, the least they could do is get somebody with real talent. He may be a good vocalist but his guitar playing is average at best.

    17. 17

Shut the fuck up John. You're music is so boring.

    18. 18

lol he was totally making love to his guitar - a bit uncomfortable to watch but the performance was good ….
      i loved jermaines most though

    19. 19

Dude played his AZZ off. I was in tears.

    20. 20

I agree it was well said. He was kind and seemed deeply moved to be a part of this. Seems that John Mayer can not be a jerk on Larry King. I was so waiting for him to rip on cory feldman

    21. 21

      it was good

    22. 22

Amazing job Mr. mayer! The best of all of them!

    23. 23

He looked like a total douche playing up there. Definitely not the best performance there.

I too loved his performance and thought it was the best one. Very touching and respectful that he chose to leave a void there. Very classy and beautiful!

    25. 25

I wish he was not there. His playing was not all that. You just know he and his people are going to turn this to make it all about himself and not MJ. If it was truly about MJ he and his people will be quiet. All of the stars their were there for them self. It takes an over inflated head to be Mayer-Usher-Carey and they are the same shit heads that care about them self.

    26. 26

Why are people saying he had a great performance? He sucked so bad. The sound was horrible, he couldn't keep up with the beat, he had to stop and mess with the amplifier, he lost tempo throughout the entire song. He acted like he was jamming but it was a busted performance. He did Michael no justice. He says he couldn't sing the lyrics because he didn't want to try to do Michael's vocals, Im sure another reason is because he didn't know the song.

    27. 27

he was awful imo. took a bathroom break during his playing

    28. 28

i loved his performance. absolutely perfect :)

    29. 29

I think it was tasteful and appropriate. He played the song with so much respect & it was a top of the line tribute.

    30. 30

It was a MAGNIFICENT most Wonderful Performance from John's Part… so soothing if i can say…. I LOVE YOU JOHN MAYER

    31. 31

Onlyme it's Mayer's little pr team trying to resurrect his busted career. They go to every site cheering him on. The hope to change the media's mind about this publicity whore. He is trying to put together a Cd and trying to pump the media up for his lame shit. His playing is not all that they claim it to be.

I have a little more respect for him it has to be very hard the casket was laid out to see when you performed felt sorry for mariah but that service was a excellent honor for MJ i think he would have been well pleased with all his family and friends and music people there to support his life work in music may he rest in peace now and lets hope he passed of natural causes not drugs. John Mayer is a gentleman after all well done john!!!

About time you posted something about John Mayer that didn't talk about him in a negative way. He's amazing and was extremely appreciative of being PERSONALLY invited to perform. I thought it was great that he only played the guitar, I thought it was extremely respectful towards MJ's memory. And, anyone that says his guitar playing is mediocre has obviously never heard him play EVER because he is one of the best guitarists around today. Love you John.

    44. 44

I guess John Mayer needed some extra publicity since he is no longer with Jenn Aniston. That was awkward to see especially when he makes the weird faces. I would prefer to see someone else take his spot.

    45. 45

      He was terrible!!

    46. 46

John's performance is what I will remember the most from this memorial. It was soft, got the audience going and gave me another perspective musically of "Human nature". I think it's been almost 6 years since John played in Sweden so I hope this will change that - he's an awesome guitar player!

    47. 47

      RLY? He has no honor

    48. 48

J Mayor Face: an orgasm…poor Jen, I understand her now…..what a lost…that guy must be a BEAST in bed…OMG how he played the guitarr and feels the passion…..enought words….not much 2 describe it… LOVE he;s sekxyness..

      Frm Puerto Rico.

    49. 49

Not being a John Mayer fan, I thought his performance was the best. I loved that he didn't sing, but let the guitar do the singing.

    50. 50

Whatever, "processing the honor"? PLEASE! What an asshole. Most annoying celebrity ever.

    51. 51

Actually he can thank Janet. She organized the musicians for the memorial.

    52. 52

BUT IF YOU LOOK CLOSE ENOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE THEY HAVE THE SAME CHIN IMPLANT!

    53. 53

he was so hot and sexy

    54. 54

      he was gettin down!
      good job john!

I absolutely loved Mayer's performance. He was fantastic. I think Usher was the worst…not talent, but he's such a phoney. I was so afraid his "performance" was going to be the talk of the memorial. You just don't know how glad I was that Paris made that impromptu statement. "Go Paris, Go!"

    56. 56

I'm glad he didn't sing. Didn't think much of his performance but was relieved he came on stage when he did as it gave me time to go to the loo and put the kettle on.
