MJ Draws A Lot Of Eyeballs

As expected, Michael Jackson's memorial service yesterday brought in some big viewership numbers, especially on the web.
CNN reports that global web traffic yesterday rose to at least 19% above normal and peaked at 33% during the actual broadcast of the King of Pop's memorial. CNN.com itself reported an astounding 9.7 million live video streams throughout the day, coming in only second to the site's all-time viewership record (President Barack Obama brought in 27 million video streams the day of his inauguration.)
Still, the numbers are very impressive and they continue on, as the site boasts a "peak of 781,000 concurrent live video streams" during the memorial broadcast and that the news outlet's website garnered 81 million page views.
We wouldn't expect anything less for the King of Pop.

I like that you have taken a respectful tone here Perez. It was perfect having that touching tribute to him yesterday, particularly because it celebrated that which was great about Michael Jackson. It is likely that when the autopsy results are released there will be some findings that will cast him in a negative light, or at very least, identify him as a tortured soul. So it is best that the memorial was held before they are released. In death, he leaves a legacy of music without all the human frailty he is known for attached to it. It will also enable the L.A. law enforcement to clean up the bad and greedy doctors that are contributing to the addiction problems that plague the entertaiment industry. I really feel sorry for his children, though, as they are going to miss the only parent they have ever had. I wish the knowledge of that thought had been strong enough in Michael Jackson that he had chosen to clean up.

It's amazing that the same day when soldiers were killed in battle the court jester dies from OD and everyone is mourning him? What is wrong with you people! Your actually mourning the death of a "man" who liked sleeping in bed with boys and thought that was natural? Your mourning the death of a celebrity as if celebrities are an important segment of our society? All of you should get your head out of your ass. The only legacy that freek leaves behind is fodder for SouthPark, which I feel is one of the funiest episodes they ever did.
