Phillippe's Funny Bone Tapped For SNL Flick

Ryan Phillippe has been tapped to co-star in the first movie based off an Saturday Night Live sketch in almost a decade!

Phillippe, as well as Val Kilmer, have been propositioned by Paramount to join the cast of the MacGruber movie, starring SNL's Will Forte.

For those familiar with the sketch, Ryan would play Piper, an army officer turned MacGruber's sidekick to defeat "the evil Cunth" who has obtained a nuclear warhead.

MacGruber, a parody of the cult MacGyver television series, has plans to start filming in New Mexico next month with director Jorma Taccone, one of the MacGruber sketch writers.

Any interest?

Sounds lame to us!

OMG!!! this is exciting and hilarious! i love the McGruber skits! Obviously its no action A-team or Macgyver or G.I.Joe but yey more snl comedy! Good luck to the crew although really Ryan Philippe? No Andy Samberg or Shia LaBeouf?

MacGruber barely works as a skit; the joke gets old after the fourth time they bang you over the head with it. Did they ever make a movie out of the real MacGyver? No, because the show had the slimmest of story arcs over the course of the series. So they're planning on making a movie with exactly one punchline based on a show that had barely an overarching storyline. Good luck!

Oh, GAG! Another lame ass SNL-based movie. They usually bomb at the theaters and make a few bucks on video. But what a lame concept based on skits that last usually 2 minutes and have exhausted all the possibilities already. I LOVE you, Ryan ….please, baby, don't do this!!!

  6. 6

I love Val Kilmer - love Jorma and The Dudes — but this has str8-2-video written all over it.

  7. 7

i adore jorma and the rest of the lonely island, but this idea sounds really lame.

  8. 8

    hey, stfu.

Jorma and the dudes of The Lonely Island, along with Will Forte (and the rest of the SNL cast & crew.) are incredibly talented, funny guys.

He is from my town and I love him! Actually bought 1/2 mile from where I am right now! He is cute, smart and HOT as HELL!!

  11. 11

Oh, noooo! Just no. SNL needs some better creative people and folks in their marketing team. MacGruber wasn't even funny as a skit. I can barely remember what it's like, because I always had to change the channel or just turn off the TV when it came on. Good luck with that pile of garbage!

  12. 12

Haha, that is gonna be a ridicilusly hilariously bad-scripted movie. The sketches from SNL are both silly, bad and hilarious. Lol. :P

  13. 13

I HATE that sketch. I DEFINATELY don't want to see that movie.

  14. 14

    That is great news!
I hope they film it in Imax 3D.

  15. 15

WHAT AN INCREDIBLY HUGE WASTE OF TIME, MONEY AND RESOURCES!!!!

EVERYTHING WILL FORTE DOES IS CRAP…..AND THAT SKIT SUCKS.
I CAN'T EVEN STAND THE SOUND OF HIS VOICE.

WHY DOES SNL SUCK SOOOO BAD??? EVERYONE ON THE SHOW IS HORRIBLE RIGHT NOW.

  16. 16

sounds awesome- I'd go see it! I think they can pull it off.

  17. 17

It's gonna be hilarious. Anything Will Forte and Jorma Taccone do is amazing.

  18. 18

that sketch is only funny about 20% of the time, the other 80% isn't even worth a "heh". This will surely be straight to DVD, something home breaker-upper Phillippe should be used to ;)

Yawn… if the really were smart they would make a movie with Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg and have them trying to "make it" in the movie business… or anything with Krisin Wiig

  20. 20

The sketch was lame, so I'm sure the movie is going to be lame.

  21. 21

Really? No Andy Samberg? He's the money maker.

  22. 22

MacGruber is hilarious on SNL, but I don't really know how they are going to translate it into a movie considering that the sketches are very short and always end up with the room blowing up. But I'm a fan of Will Forte and Jorma Taccone so this has potential to be really good!

  23. 23

It sounds like amazing. But I say that about anything SNL related.

Harumph. His funny bone was tapped before this. He'd still be married.
