Recently, Ben Affleck spoke regarding his former fiance, Jennifer Lopez, and the things he said were not very nice!
In fact, he said that she ruined his career!
"I was no longer in control of my life. I thought I wanted certain things, but I didn't. I got lost. I felt suffocated, miserable and gross. I should never have gone down that route or got sucked in to all the publicity.
"I was typecast as myself. Too many people weren't getting past what they read about me. That was damaging. I can tell from experience it's bad for you, and bad for your career. So I took a break, went away for a while and let things calm down."
He also admitted that he is much more content with his new role as father, saying, "Work has taken a back seat. My job is not as important as it was. Saying that having a family changed my life is a cliche. But it's true - it re-arranged my life and made me see clearly."

That is one absolutely beautiful child, and sooo photogenic. She's so lucky to have incredible genes.
That's ridiculous - lame movies and lack-luster acting hurt his career - NOT publicity! I hate when actors like this and Leo D. feel that the public is too stupid to watch their movies and believe their characters - how insulting. Look at Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise - A+ listers, they get a ton of publicity and don't treat the public like douch-bags and they get nominated for awards and have #1 movies!!!

I saw Ben once in person close up in NYC and OMG he is gorgeous. His daughter is beautiful too. Ben rocks! And Jen Garner rocks, too. Now if the paparazzi could just leave them alone . . . the poor family is like stalked. It is creepy and sad for them.
He seems to be talking about the public aspect of the relationship not about the girl. It was crazy and gave rise to all the wacky celeb couple nicknames. Bennifer, good one and he can still use it.

What I've learned over the years is that people can do a lot of racist things without actually coming out and saying "Spic", the N word or "Mafia" in the case of Italians. It's in their tone of voice, their choice of words and their facial expressions.
There's a lot of right-wing politicians trying to bring down Obama using his "policy". Most of them are just closeted racists. They can't attack him cuz he's black so they'll try to do it using more legitimate methods.

I agree that he is talking about the giving into letting the relationship be such a publicity thing, which in a sense is a dig at Jennifer Lopez, but more at that he did all those photo ops, interviews, and that their relationship, which I'm sure started out as real, turned into a publicity machine and created the very first unfortunate combo name. And I agree with him, it was gross (fake tan). And they were EVERYWHERE! Though it seems so long ago now. But at the time it was ridiculous.

Men will date all kinds of girls, but who they ultimately settle down with is another story. They cave in to pressure from their parents and their guy friends all the time.

He brought it on himself. He courted the attention right along with Jen. He wanted to be the new Richard Burton to her Elizabeth Taylor and groomed himself and just made an ass of himself. Such a spectacle. His friend Matt Damon was the smart one. He dated lots of famous actresses at one point, but knew to keep it tame in the press and handle himself with dignity. This guy and J. Lo acted like he was damn royalty. And having a whole team of people orchestrating their Bennifer image.
I still love his Kevin Smith films… him in a dress in Mallrats is the best scene.
You know I think the Bennifer period DID have quite an impact on him at the time, but I also think some of the acting decisions he made also contributed to it. I think this article was only specifically asking him about it so he answered. I love him and jennifer Garner though. they seem perfect for each other and they have learned since they aren't photographed as much. He's an adult and well into his 30's when he hooked up with the married J.Lo. He didn't seem to mind ruining Chris' life by having an open and very public affair with his wife. Whoever decided to create BenLo, got months of great publicity for a "relationship" that NEVER could work — not even on reality TV. Affleck's career suffered from bad properties, miscasting, poor acting and on top of that a reputation for bromancing his best bud, Matt Damon. Hooking up w/ J-Lo boosted Affleck's "dude" profile. She was like a shot of testerone for his street cred. But in reality, she was too much woman for him to handle. Plus, I agree with one of your commenters who read "race" in his statement. There's another level: his Southie pals would never let him forget that his PR wife once pleasured P-Diddy. I think he was contemptuous of his bride-to-be. He referred to her infamous barely there dress as her "titty dress."
