Kelly Preston to Speak About Losing Son

Filed under: John Travolta > Inspiration

Even though we're sure it will be painful, Kelly Preston has decided to open up about the loss of her young son Jett Travolta for the first time at a Women’s conference this fall.

The wife of John Travolta will be joined by John Edward’s wife, cancer sfighter Elizabeth Edwards, and actress Susan St. James, two other famous ladies who tragically lost their children.

The women will speak during the “Grief & Resilience” panel at the California Governor’s Conference for Women, in late October. This will mark the first time that any member of the Travolta family has talked about their family's loss and Maria Shriver, the wife of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and hostess of the event, thinks the forum will be a good experience for Kelly.

Says Maria, “If she can empower one other woman who feels like they can’t get out of bed, or get through the day, whatever the loss, it’ll be worthwhile sharing her story."

We agree.

      yeah…sure…

too bad your son would still be alive if your nutjob religion believed in medicating autism.

      no sympathy for these freaks.

Re: lau115ren – Since when is autism deadly? He died from epilepsy complications and as I recall they had been medicating him but he stopped responding to the medication so they discontinued it. That's pretty common for any medication taken regularly.

I hate religious psychos too but there's no use giving them ammunition by being ignorant.

I bet you anything she won't blame $cientology for this tragedy. It's that stupid cult that prevented Jett from having proper treatment for his autism. Even Travolta admitted he was autistic to the EMTs but publicly he claimed Jett had some other problem. It's against the cult to admit autism exists. Idiots.

I do feel sorry for their loss, I feel sorry for Jett, but I blame both those parents for feeding into the ridiculousness of $cientology. They should do something for that boy in remembrance such as publicly denouncing the cult.

May she find the strength to speak…

Re: lau115ren – Really lau115ren? I never heard of anybody dying from autism. Get your facts straight before you post something cruel.

The difference is that Edwards and St. James lost their sons in car and plane accidents but Preston lost her son because her crazy ass religion prevented her from getting her son proper medical care. Preston and her husband should be ashamed of themselves because they contributed to their son's death by not getting him the medications and treatment that he needed to live. I hope that the people at the conference boo Preston right off the stage.

I wonder if she'll address this issue of why she and her husband did not properly treat her son, since her cult forbids acknowledging autism?

Remember, the police transcript showed that Travolta had admitted Jett had autism.

How much do you want to bet she won't EVER address it?!?! Sad….

      Re: Crabbey

Well said!!! The police should investigate criminal negligence…..failing to treat your child for a disease you know he has, based on your cult…..gotta be a crime.

It's sad that people will let religion dictate their life.. but she still lost her young child and that is still one of the hardest things for a person to handle. Her choice to speak out will empower many other woman who have lost children and fallen into the halls of depression. Bravo.

      Re: nemorous

autism is deadly when children aren't medicated properly for it…. and epilepsy and seizure disorders are a complication of unmedicated autism.

my cousin is autistic, and he takes very specific anti-seizure medications to prevent this exact situation from happening.

the travolta family can spin this story however they want….bottom line is that they were negligent in the treatment of their son.

      Re: Granny Panties

i have plenty of sympathy for parents who lose their children tragically…just not kelly preston, john travolta, or any other crazy ass $cientologist whose children die because they don't believe in medicating mental illnesses.

these people are nothing more than brainwashed scum and need to realize that their son is dead because they follow a cult.

the US needs to take a lesson from France and make the move to make practicing $cientology illegal.

    14. 14

God help some of you people making such judgemental comments. Some day you'll have children of your own and then, God help you.

    15. 15

I hope their son rests in peace. Poor kid. I have a brother like him. If I ever have a son I'm gonna go damn well out of my way to make sure hes healthy no matter what.

    16. 16

is this conference going to be taped or broadcasted? a friend of mine who's passed…..this is something i think her mother should hear.

    17. 17

I bet Kate Gosselin will tell Kelly how difficult it is being a parent to 8, count them 8, kids. Yes, Kate Gosselin has been invited to this conference too! I guess Maria is highlighting pimps now. Good for her!

    18. 18

      This is BS!
She should have given Her Son His medicine!

    19. 19

I feel for all the woman who have lost children. I can't ever think of losing mine. Stay strong.

    20. 20

is she gonna tell everyone her son got kawasaki disease from carpet cleaning chemicals?? does she really think people are that stupid to believe that? autism isnt deadly…but 50% of kids with autism start having seizures at puberty and left untreated you can die from that… she does not deserve to speak with the other women who lost their sons at no fault of their own… Jett could still be here!

    21. 21

God Bless Kelly and her family.

    22. 22

My son has autism. He has used medications over the years. Unfortunately one of them gave him tics (temporarily- thank goodness), so we took him off the medication. Please don't judge these parents for what they did or did not do. There is no clear roadmap of what to do when you have an autistic child. You have to wade through what's out there and TRY to figure out what is right for your child. Please don't judge what you'll never understand. Tears and hugs for the Travolta family.

Re: lau115ren – So, you must see the Travoltas socially to actually know all these 'facts' you're spouting? Be very careful.
