MJ Is A No Go In Congress

Oops!

Looks like there won't be a Congressional resolution honoring Michael Jackson, as Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee promised.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi rejected the proposal, saying that even though Jackson was a "great performer," such a resolution "will open up two contrary views that are not necessary at this time to be expressed."

Bummerella!

    2. 2

      RIP MJ!!!!!!!!!!!

      OK not to Honor Him!

    3. 3

he was the greatest entertainer in the world…dont they have a heart??!americans man…

    4. 4

I wish the congresswoman hadn't promised it would happen. With idiots like Pelosi in charge it'd be nearly impossible to get something touching like this through. Very unfortunate.

    5. 5

this is not an issue for congress in the slightest.
haven't taxpayers forked over enough for this circus already?

    6. 6

Doesn't congresswoman Jackson have other more important matters to put her time and mind on then trying to get congress to honor MJ.

    7. 7

That rep shouldn't have gone up there to promise something that she had absolutely no right to promise. Not everybody loves or respects MJ and that resolution is quite frankly not what is needed at this time. I'm sure there will eventually be a memorial site for him or possibly re-creating Neverland to pay homage but he doesn't belong in the political world.

Re: veggiebabe92 – Amazing…first time I have actually seen someone get the position they claim.

    9. 9

Congress doesn't need to honor anybody who isn't in the military or government. End of discussion. He was not extraordinary.

    10. 10

i don't want a child molester honored by our congress

    11. 11

      Bummerella?
Another Perez' linguistic invention to join the likes of faboosh, brazilliant, amazeballs, amazeballsack, ferosh, El Lay, deets, bbs, etc…… :-(

    12. 12

I am glad they aren't giving him a special day. I am incredibly liberal, however, the fact that he has become this hero in death when in life he was pretty creepy and probably a pedophile. Any one else notice that when people talk about him it's only about his performance on stage. They never talk about his personal life and what he was like off stage. There's a reason for that, he was a freak off stage.

    13. 13

wow that sucks we still love you mj

    14. 14

Finally some common sense is shown. Now let the congresswoman be concerned over REAL matters.

    15. 15

      WTF? Glad it didn't passs!!!

    16. 16

Oh please!! This circus has gone on long enough! He was just a singer! No matter how "good" he was, he does not deserve this amount of effort, attention OR taxpayers money.

      Simply ridiculous!

    17. 17

That would have been an even bigger waste of time and the tax payer's money than the whole digital tv fiasco. Those people have actual work they should be doing. Although Sheila Jackson Lee very rarely does anything worth a damn anyway.

    18. 18

      Re: kallengirl – THANK YOU.
      Ugh , annoying right?

He's not all that great. My god.

    19. 19

Well finally some smart words from a Pelosi……………………… While he was a great performer…….. ENOUGH !!!!!!!!!!
He was not some great humanitarian, he was an incredibly talented freak of nature who may or may not have had inappropriate relationships with minors and may or may not have suffered from exploitation and abuse as a child. In addition, I think we can pretty much say he was a drug addict and had serious psychological issues which resulted in horrible body dimorphia issues. Not really a candidate for sainthood now is he.

    20. 20

Re: Me Myself and I – Pretty much.
His memorial was like a a million dollars in taxes as it is.
HELLO THIS IS WHY CALIFORNIA IS BANKRUPT.
why pay more for a dead man ?

    21. 21

      Re: Aimee999

Saying he is the greatest entertainer ever is very subjective. I, for one, did not enjoy his music. Others probably don't enjoy my music. However, if someone I liked died I woudn't expect the world to stop because of it. I'm sick of people trying to make him out to be something more than he actually was.

    22. 22

Re: redsonja1313 – Not a great humanitarian? Lmao. Michael Jackson is a true humanitarian, an example to us all. He has devoted much time and money to a wide range of charities. He was listed Guiness Book Of World Records for breaking the world record for the "Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star". It states that Michael Jackson has supported 39 charity organizations either with monetary donations through sponsorships of their projects or by participating in their silent auction. Why would people try to tear down a man who constantly used his power, money, and influence to help others?

Why would people express such disgust and contempt for a man who constantly sang of love and peace, and used his talent to entertain, uplift, and inspire millions?

Tell em that its human nature, I suppose…

    23. 23

honoring MJ??? Are they serious?? THat WOULD BE LIKE GIVING oj THE KEYS TO THE CITY OF L.A.!!! Fucked up!!

    24. 24

      michael jackson LOVED DOPE!

    25. 25

First of all, Michael was acquitted of all charges. People should stop calling him a pedophile and a freak because they do not know him as a person and cannot prove anything! Just because someone is different or eccentric does not mean he is a molester. I think he was one of the most misunderstood human beings alive. If you watch his home videos on youtube, you will see him as a sweet and genuine human being, not only a great entertainer.

    26. 26

it doesnt matter. Michaels sales says it all.. Based on preliminary sales numbers from Nielsen SoundScan, Jackson's catalog of solo albums sold a whopping 800,000 copies in the U.S. in the tracking week that ended at the close of business on Sunday (July 5) night. That's an increase of 90% compared to the previous week, when his combined albums sold 422,000.

A jump in sales was expected, since this was the first full week of sales since Jackson's passing on June 25. Additionally, after most physical retailers swiftly sold out of available Jackson albums, Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group were able to replenish brick-and-mortar stores with CDs last week to meet customer demand.

In turn, physical albums accounted for 82% of Jackson's sales last week — 656,000 physical albums versus 144,000 download albums. In the week previous, when Jackson's albums moved a total of 422,000, physical albums accounted for 43% of that sum (181,000) while digital albums made up the other 57% (241,000).

KEEP HIS LEGACY ALIVE. Im so glad that the MAJORITY of americans see this person as he truly is Just because some pubertal teens on perezhilton bashes him, we really have rational ppl who doesnt feed the tabloidjunks. God bless them and keep BUYING HIS MUSIC!

    27. 27

Why is this even an issue. The government should not honor someone so repulsive as MJ. He was an ok performer who had some wonderful songs over 20 years ago. The only thing that he has been in the news for since then has been allegations of child abuse and the fact that he mutilated his face. Our goverment has more important things to do then to honor him. This Shila Jackson should be ashamed of her self.

    28. 28

Re: jenmcn – THANK YOU!! A sane person here for once!!

    29. 29

Re: kikilol – why would an IDIOT, yes IDIOT, give some LYING little snot nosed kid ONE fucking PENNY of your hard earned fortune if you KNEW deep down you didnt do something wrong?? Youre another naive wacko believer..HE didnt want to go to PRISON DUHHHHHHHHHHHH….

    30. 30

Re: redsonja1313 – wow..another person that "GETS IT" here! high five

    31. 31

      Re: minaahm

Yeah I especially loved the work he did with children…in his bedroom.

    32. 32

A resolution is a statement of position. It carries no legal authority, has no force of law, and is simply a letter stating their opinion on a particular subject. For an example Congress passed a resolution designating ( I forgot what month it was) National Watermelon Month. Okay it's National Watermelon month, no law passed, no money spent, just a recognition that watermelon exists. It means nothing. They spend time on this stupid stuff while the economy is going down the drain and people are out of work instead of doing real work to help make government better

SO THE QUESTION IS… IF IT IS MEANINGLESS WHY NOT GIVE IT TO MJ? YOU PEOPLE DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT SHIT SAYING HE DON'T DESERVE THIS… WHY NOT??? IT DOES NOTHING!!

    33. 33

Ridiculous…she isn't bringing forth the resolution based on his performances. She is bringing it for the humanitarian efforts Jackson put forth which statistics prove is the most ever. I can't stand Pelosi we need to get her out of there quick. California DO NOT vote this bitch back in PLEASE!

    34. 34

hmmmmm…………… The Rolling Stones Music moves me it changed the landscape of rock and roll and I grew up with it even if they were old men by then. No one can play a guitar like Keith and he writes 98% of his music & lyrics. He has given millions to charitable organizations world wide. In addition he has a severely disabled child and gives LARGE sums of money to support care and funding for people with this disability. I would like to formally petition Congress, The City of LA and the House of Windsor to declare EVERY December 18th National Glimmer Twins Day. People world wide will get the day off from work and anyone caught smoking, drinking, shooting heroine, and banned from countries for life will have all transgressions pardoned and will get a free trip to Canada on LA County's dime !!! Cause really if being a talented performer Keith will blow your doors off and clean your mirrors !!

    35. 35

oh and just so I am following your line of justification *minaahm* They have sold a shitload of records for longer then MJ was alive

    36. 36

      Re: redsonja1313

Ridiculous….MJ holds the record for most charity given to all kinds of organizations, and for the record the Stones was a very overrated band and really didn't break any barriers in music as far as that goes, but for MJ it's not even about his music. It's about the humanitarian that he was.

    37. 37

He sang & danced for chissakes. He didnt cure cancer. And the kids……

    38. 38

Re: CrazieMagoo – …………… ahhh never mind, just Google sarcasm PLEASE

    39. 39

      Re: redsonja1313

ah I stand corrected than sorry…didn't realize your intentions all I saw was this nonsense about the Rolling Stones.

    40. 40

Re: CrazieMagoo – Sorry in my opinion NOTHING nonsensical about the Stones and in the grand battle of which cd are you taking to a deserted island it would be LET IT BLEED and no MJ in the number two spot either that will go to Beethoven. My point was holding this performer up at this level with such questionable habits outside of his performance is as ridiculous as giving the Stones a National Holiday and none of the Stones have been accused of impropriate with a minor but their "exploits" are quite well documented and neither are heroes or worthy of my tax dollars being spent to memorialize them in death… ESPECIALLY when death seems to be a result of their excessive addictive behavior. MJ is as worthy as Elvis, Marylyn and Tupac to be immortalized in crushed velvet in Tijuana

    41. 41

and the one point everyone seems to be missing and no toxicology has not come back but all signs seems to point to some pretty heavy abuse of prescription narcotics. THIS IS IRRESPONSIBLE PARENTING !!! No way that he was not caring for those kids high and his early demise will most likely be attributed to accidental overdose. Again he is a single parent of three young kids this is consider child endangerment. His addictions and selfishness have left those kids with out the only parent they have ever known. The Guinness Book of World Records acknowledges a guy who can eat 6 sugar donuts the fastest is that guy going to get this hoopla when he dies of cardiac arrest from his shitty eating habits

Re: indaskins – He is NOT a child molestor!!! The kid from the first case admitted that his father put him up to the allegations and it wasn't true. The cancer survivor kid from 2005 was a sham. That kid's mother was involved in a welfare scam. Unfortunately, the parents of these kids are the real child abusers!!!

    43. 43

ROTFLMAO! Thank goodness our most corrupt Speaker of he House rejected dimwit Lee's proclamation. Pope Pelosi's' standing just went up one one millionth of a point.

    44. 44

All of you need to stfu. Seriously.
Do us all the favor and grow up.

      Have some respect.
Then again, when you all die, no one's
going to give a shit. Lmao. :D

    45. 45

Ha ha ha it seems that blacks are out of control. A resolution in Congress to honor a guy accused of sex molestation TWICE?..He is a great performer, a genious in pop culture, a music icon….But honor him?

I'm moving out of this country. We are becoming lame….

    46. 46

Re: kikilol – Yes, he was acquitted of all charges, but so was OJ . I don't know If MJ was a phedophle, but I do know that he had an unhealthy relashionship with everything related to kids, and I also know that he said publicly that he sleep with boys and that was Ok.

And yes darling he was a freak. Why? Because this black man became "white", because he destroyed his beautiful face and made a mask out of it. Because he made "white kids" and to do that he didn't want to used his "black genes".

I feel bad for Michael Jackson and from the bottom of my heart I thank him for his music and his wonderful dancing.

      But a Congressional Honor?

    48. 48

yay! this makes me very happy.

    49. 49

That makes me very sad. :(

    50. 50

Bumerella my ass! If they dont do it for the REAL King of music..being Elvis..why the hell should they do it for MJ???

      Think NOT

    51. 51

Jesus, war in Iraq, war in Afghanistan, Iran imploding, North Korea preparing for God knows what, the economy, unemployment, etc. etc. and that idiot wants the Congress to waste time on some pointless resolution honoring a drug overdose? Good for Nancy Pelosi - a dose of sanity.

    52. zarle says – reply to this

      52

What are the two contrary views she is talking about?

    53. 53

For all those who denounce as racist, those who are sick of the over the top MJ coverage, many were just as disgusted with the over the top Anna Nicole Smith coverage. Save the honors for real heros. Quit elevating celebrities(especially ones that die from a drug overdose) to "hero" status; it degrades what a true "hero" is.

    54. 54

      Re: redsonja1313
Never was a more sensical statement made here.

    55. 55

Unbelievable. The man can't even get the recognition he deserves. Dumbasses!

    56. 56

Wow! amazing, Nancy Cruella says / does something I actually agree with! shocking

    57. 57

CONGRESS WOMAN SHELIA DID NOT PROMISE!!
SHE SAID THEY WERE GONNA DEBATE ON IT.
      rip MJ.

    58. 58

Yeah, this is what we pay those overpriced crooks in Washington to do. Waste their time and our money on an entertainer. OBAMA IS DELIBERATELY DESTROYING THIS COUNTRY AND OLD PLASTIC SURGERY FACE PELOSI EVEN BOTHERS TO MENTION THIS!!!!!! WAKE UP AMERICA!!! NEXT STEP — COMMUNISM. AND IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS —- AND I'M BETTING MOST OFOYOU DON'T — YOU WILL LEARN QUICKLY. BE AFRAID. BE VERY AFRAID.
