C-list actress Kate Bekinsale has won a lawsuit against a British tabloid. Albeit, a silly silly lawsuit!
The Daily Express ran a story stating that Kate Beckinsale had been dropped from a remake of Barbarella, even though - in actuality - she was never even in consideration for the role.
This just wasn't so and Kate took their asses to trial! Though she didn't actually show up in the courtroom, she has people for that!
The actress was awarded over $12,000 in damages, which the newspaper gave willingly along with their "sincere" apologies.
She almost doesn't have to do movies anymore. She can just sue all the different media outlets and make a career out of that!

She doesn't deserve to have a career in showbiz. She killed the Underworld movie franchise by leaving after the sequel because she wanted to be a "serious" actress. Well I have news for her, Underworld is what made her famous. None of her movies before or since have made anywhere near the box office that Underworld 1&2 made and all of the publicity that went with them. She screwed herself & the fans and I hope she remains a C-list actress forever.

I understand that the story was fake, but I don't see how the lie could have been damaging to her, which is usually what helps a person win the case, if they are mentally/emotionally harmed by the made up story……ok, so they said she was dropped from a movie she was never considered for…thats worth $12,000?????? The third Underworld movie had nothing to do with her character. In fact the storyline predated her even being made a vampire.
oh she got Underworld because she was screwing one of the writers then finally the director of the sequel. so of course she would sue for this. that means she is cheating on her main source of work if she started to blow Rodriguez for the role. isn't that Rose McGowan's job???

She bores the crap right out of my butt. The only acting I've ever liked from her was in Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing–that was before she decided roles like dressing in leather and tinted contacts was real 'acting.' Van Helsing and Underworld were two of the worst movies I've ever seen! She's never going to do better than that and it's sad, she was at university and was actually a decent writer. Maybe you should go that route instead Kate, it's not too late!

She became well known publicly after 'Pearl Harbour" in 2002, but was working steadily and fairly successfully as an actress since around 1993. Just because you don't know about doesn't mean it didn't happen.
She almost certainly won compensation because saying an actor or actress has been dropped from a movie can hurt their marketability. Without explanation, the first question is "why?" Drugs? Showing up late? Overweight? Those are the things people will think. I think all the celebs should sue when the tabs just make stuff up. Make 'em work for a living!
