Dallas Star's Heartbreak

Beloved TV actor Larry Hagman, from I Dream of Jeanie and Dallas, is dealing with the difficult task of caring for his wife, who has slowly been losing her memories to Alzheimer's disease.

Reports are saying that Larry's wife of 54 years, Maj Axelsson, "is slipping away a little more each day. And it's heartbreaking for Larry because he is so absolutely devoted to her."

Larry had overcome his own health battles about a decade ago when he fought off liver cancer, but now he is devoting himself to the care of his wife.

Maj's brother has confirmed the Alzheimer's diagnosis.

Says a friend: "Larry refuses to give up on her. He's still so in love with Maj."

How very sad! We wish them both the best and hope to hear better news about them both in the near future.

Refreshing to see that a man (a real one) in Hollywood stuck by his woman and marrige, by not dumping her for a younger version. God Bless!

    7. 7

Yeah, alot of women in my family had Alzheimer's. Very sad, I lost my last grandmother 'mamaw' a couple of month's ago.

    8. 8

It's nice to wish them the best but to be fair and honest it will only get worse. I work with alzheimer a lot and it can go vert quick if they are lucky. I wish them both a lot strength in the process.

Do your HOMEWORK people! It's long been known he's a HUGE homophobe!

God bless them both. Alzheimer's is a devestating illness. I recently lost my great uncle to the disease. He battled it for a very long time. He died just 3 months after my grandpa (his brother) and after a lot of soul searching his daughter decided to bring him to my grandpa's funeral. He kept crying and looking for my grandpa, saying "They said Max is in there but he isn't there." (it was open casket…) He thought the nazis had captured him. He didn't know who we were. He was terrified. It's heartbreaking to see someone you love slip away slowly. Agonizingly slowly.

My heart goes out to them both,

Really sad. Alzheimer's is a horrible disease
      .
To "Mystery Person" # 22 … Shame on you for your shallowness and cruelty ..
What do you expect her to look like? Both of them are in their later
70's and she's fighting an awful, degenerative condition.
Do you expect her to look like Joan Rivers??

    21. 21

I had Larry Hagman's bathroom tile in my first home.

    22. 22

I agree angie and soul! I think my mom has really been "slipping" a bit lately….she and dad have been married 55 years next month. I know my dad will do the same. Why aren't men that loyal any more????

I have enormous respect for this Hollywood couple for staying together for 54 years and admiration for Larry Hagman for being devoted to his sick wife.
      For better, for worse,
      For richer, for poorer,
      In sickness and in health
      To love and to cherish
      Till death us do part.

    26. 26

where do you get your stories? this again is old news. this story was made light 2 weeks ago. geez!

    27. 27

God bless them both. It's a horrible disease. My prayers are with them.

    28. 28

      WHO SHOT JR?

    29. Lucas says – reply to this

      29

he he…just have to correct you — In August 1995, Hagman underwent a life-saving liver transplant after admitting he had been a heavy drinker. So ya have to get your fact straight :)

I'm sorry for Maj - dementia is a horrible disease, and I wish there was a cure out there. He has a long road ahead of him. I sure he doesn't choose this time to pickle liver #2.

    30. 30

They live in my home town of Ojai and I see Larry around sometimes. So sad. I watched my Grandma go through this disease. It's a painful thing. I hope Larry has a lot of friends and family to help them through this.

    31. 31

Alzheimer's is a bitch. My grandfather had it and I think I was too young to appreciate the circumstances, but I do remember how it affected the rest of my family. God bless, Larry, and stay strong going forward.

    32. 32

May God give you all the strength, Larry!

    35. 35

Re: lydundiah – what the hell are you saying ewww at?

    41. 41

He had his own medical marvel after his alcohol abuse destroyed his own liver and then he jumped the line and got a transplant rather quickly (touching off a debate on the ethics of giving a rich guy preferential treatment).

They may both need a nurse or an aide. God bless them. It sounds like they had a real marriage.

    42. 42

He didn't have Liver Cancer, his liver was pickled due to excessive drinking and he got a transplant!!

    43. 43

DAYUM, I wish I had him on my Deadpool list…. I bet he doesn't make it a year after she is gone

    44. 44

Cannabis/Marijuana is supposed to slow down the degeneration.
      Eat Organics = HEIRLOOM
they are the best and may possibly help slow the progression

    45. 45

      I truly admire them both!
      Larry Hagman= integrity and character!
