Anna Kournikova Is Not Jewish, Guys

Good thing tennis champ Anna Kournikova has a strong game!

Kournikova was in Washington D.C. for a match when the tennis star was congratulated by press on her rumored engagement to Enrique Iglesias.

A freelance photographer, Carrie Devorah reportedly told Kournikova, "Mazel Tov," but poor Anna had no clue what the phrase meant!

When Devorah explained that it was a Hebrew/Yiddish term meaning congratulations, Kournikova flipped out!!

Anna screeched, "I am not Jewish - can't you see my cross?"

You're right sweetie, you're not Jewish… you're a total dumbass blonde!!!

she was always quite dense. wasted talent too.

  2. 2

    dumb biatch next

  3. 3

What an idiot for is!:(( Thought she was Russian??? Or maybe from Mars?

  4. 4

Such a blond bimbo! I suppose next time someone wishes me a Merry Christmas, I'll screeched out "I'm Jewish, you idiot - can't you see my Yamulka on my head?!"
Gentiles use common Jewish phrases daily as part of the English vonacular (Shmuck - means small wiener…Oy Vey - similar to say oh my gosh!…firmished - means confused —–and these are just to name a few).
She is such a poofta (Yiddish for smelly p*ssy).

  5. 5

She sucked at tennis…who cares about her anyway.

  6. 6

How beautiful she is, like most Russian women. If you read novels by the great Leo Tolstoy he keeps saying how his female characters are attractive. I thought he was exagerating until I got to know all those women tennis players, most of them absolutely gorgeous. Tolstoy was right ! My ancestors were Russians !

  7. 7

Shut the f*** up, Perez. Kournikova's Russian, her first language's Russian, she was born and raised in Russia. So how can you expect her to know these kinds of special phrases and their meanings used in American English thanks to American Jews? You total "dumbass" spic.

  8. 8

Just bc she's not Jewish doesn't mean it's not cool to say, "Mazel Tov." I don't get that remark at all. It didn't mean SHE was Jewish, it meant the person saying it was Jewish. Duh.

  9. MP says – reply to this

What an idiot. Doesn't she know not only Jewish people use Hebrew/Yiddish phrases? Mazel Tov is quite universal I'd say. Oy vey!

  10. 10

    How amazing… ;)

  11. 11

Um Perez, weren't YOU the one who compared Judaism to Scientology the other day, and thought Britney Spears converting would be idiotic?

  12. 12

ahahah perez….here in europe jew are not that into society as in US
Plus the population of east europe (she is russian) are VERY Religious very catholic
In italy for example is very rare to have to do with jew people, they just stick to their group and go to their high schools and basically being by their self and ,if in rome, living in the ghetto.really I had no clue whatsoever what mazel tov was, even not being christianized!!!is not like in satc where when charlotte met a not cicrumsised man was shocked, here almost NOONE ic circumsized

  13. u9 says – reply to this

Well, "mazel tov" isn't an English phrase and it may be understood in parts of US or Israel, but I don't think people would understand it in other countries even if they speak English. English is not Anna's first language. This posting is a complete overreaction.

I'm curious why don't some Jewish people respond positively when you say "Merry Christmas" to them (this is when you don't know they're Jewish). I see some similarities between situation such as this and this incident with Anna.

  14. 14

Eh, no. Russians are Eastern Orthodox, not Catholic.

  15. 15

making dumb blonde jokes is NOT ok perez

and there's nothing wrong with sticking up for your faith! i expected better of you, it seems that you only care about sticking up for the dignity of VERY SPECIFIC groups of people

  16. 16

  17. 17

Hey why the attack…and why this shit about:You are a total dumbass blonde? Are you attacking blondes? Are you implying they are dum?….Then your dear Madonna and Ga Ga will be part of the stupid blondes, right?

But of course, you don't make sense, your thing it's always to attack, ridicule and denigrade people. That's how you made your money…and your "fame".

Poor PerezHilton, even your name is fake.

  18. 18

does anyone else think she looks like Stephanie Pratt from the hills? cos i doooo.

  19. 19

    Re: MP

The ignorant idiot here is you. Kournikova's Russian, not American. Maybe North Americans and Jews are accustomed to this particular Yiddish expression, but most people in other parts of the world are not. No one in Europe, let alone in Russia, says "mazel tov".

  20. 20

so what ,that was just a nice thing to say,it doesnt matter if she is jewish or not

  21. 21

    she looks crosseyed

  22. 22

Re: CLAUDETTE – Russian people are NOT Catholic, they are Russian Orthodox.
And Russia has a huge Jewish population, and quite familiar with Jewish traditions. Intermarriage is widespread, since Jews lived alongside the Russian majority for centuries. Trust me I know. I was born in Russia.

  23. 23

Re: party animal This statement interested me (along with the article) and there are several points to be made. As for YOUR statement about Russia - you are incorrect. According to most current data, less than 200k live in Russia, with 140 million people. For Soviet Union, less than 1.5 million resided. Another point is that the way Americans and Europeans pronounce mazel tov is NOT the same as Asia. Secondly, to America and most of Europe - mazel tov is traditionally used as "good luck already occurred". You don't say it as a beginning but for example, at the conclusion of a wedding ceremony and the breaking of the glass, is welcomed with mazel tov. It's not said BEFORE the wedding. According to sources, to say GOOD LUCK is actually B'hatzlacha. So looks like the REPORTER was an idiot - NOT Anna in the first place as it's totally out of place to say the word to mean good luck.

  24. 24

So essentially, what I'm boiling down to - there AREN'T that many Jews in Russia (or former Soviet collectively), the reporter doesn't even know what Mazel Tov means properly. It was said in the English pronunciation which is NOT common among those who are Jewish in Russia, And YES - given how many religious people take offense to different phrases (Praise Allah, God Bless You, Merry Christmas among the top offenders), it's stupid to even POST this garbage to begin with. And not only all this - P always attacks women anyways - so forget that he hasn't a flippin clue what he's even talking about half the time (faker Jackson, Castro's dead, the Richardson and Anna Nicole debacle and laughing at Jesse Metcalfe getting beat on - I'd think some of these people here, couldn't possibly be THAT blind… but eh, P is God and he's always right…

  25. 25

and again someone who has stupidity written all over the face…

  26. 26

Idiot. You don't have to be jewish so people say mazel tov to you. say thanx you ungrateful bitch

  27. 27

Re: imsoregistered – well he does own and operate this site, so yes, here he is god xo!

  28. 28

yeah she kind of acted like an idiot but you cant really expect her to know every hebrew phrase thrown at her either, she is from russia, there are ethnic jews there but not many practicing, you cant just assume that everyone comes from the same backgroung what it meant!you cant blame her for not knowing what it meant!you cant blame her for not knowing what it meant!

  29. 29

This is not necessary a normal phrase to use among russian gentiles, so she doesn't have to be a dumb blonde not to understand it.

  30. 30

Just more reason to dislike her

  31. 31

so I guess, based on her comment, that people should have only congratulated her in russian?

  32. 32

Re: sarbear996 Oh, so Fidel really is dead then…

  33. 33

Re: soangryicouldspit – It's not that she wasn't congratulated in Russian. It's that she responded with disdain.

If I was told "Best of Luck" in a different language, I would ask for clarification, and then say thank you.

Also: in response to imsointerested, you need to take into account the popular phrasing and usage of "Mazel Tov" in the States. Like the phrase "To beg the question," it has turned into something other than what it was originally intended to be.

  34. 34

Re: imsoregistered – Dear, I was born and raised in Russia and I am Jewish, I lived in Israel for years, have Israeli citizenship (and US citizenship also) and speak fluent Hebrew. I don't need to look for sources on internet. I'm only stating what I know from my first hand knowledge of living in Russia, in Israel, in USA and in many other countries. When we find that someone is getting married or someone is having a baby, we wish them Mazel Tov in Yiddish or MAZAL TOV in Hebrew. And the Jewish reporter was absolutely correct in wishing Anna Kournikova "mazel tov". That's what we Jewish people all over the globe do.

  35. 35

    She's still an idiot. Sorry.

  36. 36

hmmm, even if she didn't understand it, why flip out at (what she thought) was a suggestion that she is Jewish? I guess I can't help feeling uncomfortable about it, knowing how anti-semitic a lot of slavic people still are.

  37. 37

Re: imsoregistered – #25 "B'hatzlaha" means "good luck to you", "best luck".
But I would never ever say "b'hatzlaha" to a person who is getting married. I would say "b'hatzlaha" to my child when he's cramming for a math exam. I would wish b'hatzlaha" to my child before his basketball game at school. I would wish "b'hatzlaha" to a person going for a job interview. To a person who is getting married I would wish "mazel tov!"

  38. 38

Shyt, I'm not Jewish either but I know what Mazel Tov means.

    How dreadful.

  39. 39

Perez lies, as usual. She didn't SCREECH, but she SNAPPED at the reporter. And then, how is she supposed to know every langage on Earth. Yiddish is not a language used by billions of people, you know.

  40. 40

you know this just goes to proove she has no brains and no class all she had to do is just smile politley and say thank you but she probably didnt even know it was a compliment you have to be living in a bubble today if you dont know what mazal tov means im not jewish and i know many expressions shes just a money sucking primadonna and a russian prositute that came here to our country and made it big as far as money goes cause god knows she never won anything in tennis and she doesnt even appreciate that enrique what do you see in this girl except he p—y

  41. AyanW says – reply to this

I doubt Russians use Yiddish phrases, so she is in the right, she just doesn't understand, it doesn't make her dumb. I hate how Americans hate on foriegners. Ugh, you all suck.

  42. 42

dont you know all russian girls come here to meet rich american men and get married this is so true i see it everywhere i go in nyc and they all look the same with that blonde ponytail swinging back and forth i say dport them all!!!!!

  43. YUCK says – reply to this

observant jewish ppl are some of the most racist ppl you will ever meet, they hate muslims and they hate anything that has to deal with any type of christianity, they hate armenians and black ppl. after working with hundreds of these ppl in the past I was told to never mention anything about christmas or even halloween around them. it was ridiculous. and they will only protect and defend their own and they are the first to ever call out anyone else for anything that they might think is racist about them. pointing the finger means there are three more fingers being pointed at you.

  44. 44

jeeez, i'm not jewish either, but i know what mazel tov means.
    lol, it's not that serious

  45. 45

Give me a break! This isn't that big of a deal. So what if she said, "I'm not Jewish. Can't you see my cross?" She's not allowed to say that? Please. If someone wished a Jewish person "Merry Christmas," and the Jewish person gets all offended, it's acceptable for them to throw a fit and say, "I'm not Christian/Catholic." But God forbid Anna says "I'm not Jewish," people are going crazy. Get over it.

  46. 46

I know many Russians do not appreciate Jews because they studied in school and learned how comrade Lenin was surrounded by Jews who supported the revolution 100%. The Jews suffered under the czarist regime and we cannot blame them for supporting the Revolution, but in today's world, now that we know about the gulags and everything bad the Revolution brought to the russian people, it can be understood that they don't particularly admire the Jews because of their huge contribution to the 1917 Revolution. Let's not accuse Anna Kournikova of anti-semitism, it would be a false accusation.

  47. 47

Re: YUCK – You sound pretty racist talking about an entire group of people as "them". You don't know even a 100th of the Jews in this world so fuck off with that racist bullshit please.

  48. Laury says – reply to this

Whoa, she's still dating Enrique Iglesias???? These two have been together forever… I'm kind of impressed.

  49. 49

Re: sunnydai – I'm sure nobody would mistake you for a Jew, dear. I believe you have to have an IQ above 75 to be a member of the tribe.

  50. 50

She should save up that aggravation for the court. Maybe then she would win something.

  51. 51

Re: sunnydai – You are super cool.

  52. 52

mazel tov is a common term, bitch. get over it nazi chick.

  53. 53

Re: sup_its_alexx – I'm an American Jew, and when I shop in December, every salesperson tells me "merry Christmas". I don't correct them or try to explain that I don't celebrate Christmas. I simply reply : "Thank you, merry Christmas to you too". That's all. I'm grateful to people for their kind wishes. I don't mind at all.

  54. 54

Re: YUCK – i heard the like diamonds and land theft. also there is a small chance they are fond of keeping a whole population of people in a giant prison and controlling their every movement.

  55. 55

She is just on the defensive in general cause she knows and most people know Enrique isn't ever going to marry her gold digging fake ass…. She better go back to her ex at least he gave a rats ass's about her… LOL

  56. 56

Re: Jimmy Choo – I certainly didn't mean to group all those of the Jewish religion in the category of not being so welcoming of the "Merry Christmas" greeting. So I do apologize for that. I've just experienced the negative side when a Jewish woman literally lectured me in the middle of the supermarket about how I shouldn't "just go around wishing everyone Merry Christmas."

  57. 57

please dont call her A TENNIS CHAMP…..SHE NEVER WON ANYTHING!!!!! everything was publicity from her looks and not her ability in tennis.
Sharapova on the other hand is super pretty AND A TRUE TENNIS CHAMP!

  58. 58

    Re: Mugwai

  59. 59

Re: jenny09 – Agree, Maria Sharapova is a true tennis star, and a beauty also.

  60. 60

Re: iamlucky – Before Iglesias, Anna had a relationship with a famous ice hockey player Pavel Bure.

  61. 61

i thought enrique was hooking up with this gorgeou brunette brazillian model i read that they met in south america whrn he was touring i hope so

  62. 62

Well.. why would anybody say 'mazel tov' in stead of just 'congrats'..

  63. 63

The reporter was probs yidz. duh, the whole industry is.

  64. 64

you know what i thought enrique is her first bf.well i just found out today that she was married to a hockey player sergei fedorov and on top of that she was also in a relatioship with another hockey player pavel bure.wow!she must have a thing for hockey players.i also found out that she started dating sergei when she was only 15 yrs old and this sergei guy was like 11 yrs older than her.interesting!

  65. 65

Re: MP – not in europe no. if i quizzed the average american about bhangra/the punjabi region/islam/pakistani and indian culture they wouldnt know much about it at all compared to british people because it is not a big community in the us in comparison, that wouldnt make the american stupid, they have just not been exposed to that culture as much

  66. 66

I doubt this story is true. Doesn't pass the smell test

  67. 67

F*** her. She's a dumb, anti-Semetic blond. It goes around everywhere but is very popular in Russia. The woman was congratulating her. Idiot.

  68. 68

such a tiny bod yet such a chubby face

  69. 69

Re: pancrasia – What about if someone says something to me in Arabic? I've been in Muslim countries and I've gotten used to hearing AND saying 'shurkan', and even religious phrases like alhamdoulilah and mach'Allah. And I'm Jewish. That's what being part of this plant and this human race is about. Mazel tov!

  70. 70

That woman is nothing but an arrogant uneducated IDIOT who hasn t got ANY manners(!) whatsoever!

So what, if some one makes a remark that s not belonging to my religion??

A normal polite person WITH manners would make some smiling or laughing remark and maybe correcting his remark with a smile. But only that dumb stupid woman is "sreeching" because of it - lmao!

By the way, "Europe" is many VERY different countries with VERY different lifestyles and VERY differnet mentalities and ways of thinking of the individual populations there! I do not think I as a German woman have "much" in common with, for example, some Romanian unedcated woman. Eastern European countries and their populations are VERY much different from West German countries! In Germany, religion does NOT play any role in public life, we have much stricter SEGREGATION of State and Church than the U.S.A.! And so do the French people, e.g.!

  71. 71

    Re: iamlucky
That s quite "normal" with Eastern Bloc countries women, in general Russian women they are thought to be the slutty uneducated money-seeking prostitutes of Europe going for old dumb naive Western men! :-)

  72. 72

Re: Babouchka – That is NOT an acceptable explanation for why Russians don't like Jews–not a justifiable one, anyway. All racism, homophobia, anti-Semitism, xenophobia, etc., is "carefully taught". You are conditioned to think a certain way, and there is always a "good reason" for it. How about all the Jews who have been raped, made homeless, legally discriminated against or murdered over the past several centuries in Russia? Or maybe we shouldn't go there.

  73. 73

dude. do you ever stop with the judgement. Can you say "Black Eyed, Peas" The video of you crying was the best ever

  76. 76

    Re: KDIZZLL – antisemitic asshole

  77. 77

    omg what an idiot
that made me think of Dane Cook's joke about the sneezing atheist who got all offended when Dane said "God bless you." "What am I supposed to say when an atheist sneezes? Hey, when you die nothing happens."

  78. 78

Alright, there are several misconceptions being posted on this board. IMSOREGISTERED- you're completely wrong. The engagement had ALREADY happened and therefore, mazel tov was a completelty appropriate thing for the reporter to say. Also, "COCACOLA" I must say that I find it laughable that you are protesting Perez's characterization of blondes as stupid (probably because you are one) and then manage to spell "dumb" incorrectly and think "denigrade" is actually a word. It's degrade, sweetheart. Regardless, of all this, it was completely appropriate of the reporter to express Anna congratulations in this manner and Anna showed her true colourss through her response. If I was Inglesias I would be running the other way. If Anna doesn't want to be exposed to other cultures she should just lock herself in her mansion for the rest of her life. The world would probably be better off for it.

  79. 79

Re: KDIZZLL – Anti semitic tools want to blame the Jews for everything. "oh Jews start all the wars, Jews control the government.' 'Jews are the reason I'm a uneducated, right wing nut job douche!' Dude quit your whining and get over it. Jews have not caused all these problems, your claims are ridiculous. Try putting all that energy you use for hate into something constructive, like a lobotomy.

  80. 80

Re: KDIZZLL – You are obviously an idiot.

  81. 81

im surprise she didn't know that what a dum russian whore just like all
russian whores…they only know one thing the dollar.
and she's been in miami beach most of her life and never heard
    that phrase???

  82. 82

Kournikova gets media attention because she is pretty not because she's a great tennis player. She totally overreacted to someone saying "mazel tov". How about smile and say thank you, bitch.

  83. 83

they do not get their hands dirty, they pit people against each other and kick back and watch em kill each other.

Sounds pretty smart if you ask me. It's much smarter than how your anti jewish semite ass sounds right now. Get a grip, loser.

  84. 84

sighing free on ****KissCougar.com***** a site for the yong men to date a sexy and wealthy woman..

  85. 85

I'm new here, but… may I ask why you're calling Kournikova a dumbass here? The story sounds more like this Carrie Devorah is being the dumbass, not seeing the cross or whatnot. Sorry, Perez… but that was a cheap shot. Show me a few proofs where Kournikova says something that proves her blondness, otherwise it doesn't seem deserved. I'm not even a big fan, but she does have greeat stage presence ;)

  86. 86

Re: PerezLooksHot – Thank you, I am glad someone understands

  87. 87

Re: sammmmy – You are so right…. you rock!

  88. 88

I'm sure Porkez know EVERYTHING about international terms.
And Porkez is a dumbass, not because he is blond, it's because he is a stupid misogynist.

  89. 89

let her go back to russia and live there for awhile and then maybe she will learn to respect this country and the people from all faiths in this country shes a dumb ass blone bimbo bitch!!!

  90. 90

Re: sunnydai – you should be ashamed of youself for that comment and i am not jewish but you sound like a terrorist who is against all the jewish people and thats what makes all the problems in the world i dont know where you are from but if youre from america im ashamed and if youre from another country go back and live there and dont ever come back asshole!!!

  91. 91

Re: naomi_rosen – love love love your blog to the ass—- completly correct and anna was out of line i mean if she didnt know what she meant but its obvious she did by holding up her cross and saying im not jewish cant you see my cross she could have simply said thank you and that it but no she is a bitch and i wish she would lock herself in her house and never come out better i wish she would go back to russia and see how it is to live there now she would have a rude awakening

  92. 92

Re: sunnydai – i would like to know what your IQ is cause you sound like you should be reported to the police you sound just like a terrorist and i hope one day some kicks your dumb ass and maybe you will wake the fuck up where are you from or are you ashamed to say i hope not from this country go get some meds to relax you!!

  93. 93

Re: amifirst – WHAT THE HELL!

  94. 94

sunnydai are you an american or are you a terrorist

  95. 95

who gives a shit…..how bout a shot from the waist down

  96. 96

    Good For Her! :)

  97. 97

Re: imsoregistered – You seem to know Perez's whole blog history for someone who is trying to insult him.

And for all those that defended Anna, It totally WAS stupid of her. Was the reaction on her part necessary? A gracious thank you would have sufficed, but she obviously does not know how to be gracious.

  98. 98

Re: Cleojonz – i agree totally!!!!

  99. 99

SHE'S RUSSIAN YOU IDIOT. She grew up in Moscow granted which is north of where my family and I are from. If you had even spent 1 hour in Russia, you would learn that it is very insulting to be considered "Russian Jewish". People are ridiculed for being Jewish in Russia. I'm sure she meant no harm by it, and I am certain she is not anti-semetic. It's a sad intial reaction that culturally many Russians are anti-semetic, but I'm postive thats where her reaction stemmed from. You know nothing about Russians perez.

  100. 100

    Re: Loewenstein

stop speaking you sound ridiculous. Not all Russians are Orthodox you fool. Soviet Union was Atheist you dumb fuck. Most Ukrainians are Catholic and so are some Russians. Most Russians who identify as "christian" are Russian Orthodox, but not all of them. My family is from Rostov which is close to the Uki border and they are Catholic. So shut the fuck up moron, and stop using globals and generalizations.
