Bruno is outperforming the studio's expectations!
The hilariously risque comedy starring Sacha Baron Cohen took in $30 million at the U.S. box office this weekend! That's even more than Borat made its opening weekend in 2006!
Even though Bruno only saw $9 million come in on Saturday, Sunday's numbers along with the impressive $14.2 million earned Friday were enough to keep the movie afloat.
We saw Bruno and LOVED it, what did U think???

I think that movies that take advantage of a person's gullibility are just going for the cheapest laughs. There's nothing remotely intelligent about it, it's not smart comedy that makes you think while you're laughing, it's just drivel. "Ha ha, I fooled you! You thought I was an obnoxious foreigner/overly gay foreigner! I'm hilarious!" Sacha Baron Cohen would be well-served to use his brain to get laughs. I know he's got one, he's not a stupid man. I would like to see him step up and do something smart instead of always aiming for the retarded frat boy audience. The man went to Cambridge, for Christ's sake, and gave a graduation speech at Harvard!

I saw this movie on Friday and I can honestly say that I laughed so hard I cried. Maybe it wasn't an "intelligent" comedy but it was one with balls. The reactions and dialogue some of these people gave were cringe-worthy yet hilarious. Really, I want to go see it again.

The movie was hilarious. I understand why some are offended though. That kind of movie isn't for everybody really. To be honest, the movie made a big joke out of homophobic people, which I thought was funny. Like at the end at the wrestling match.
I think it was more offensive to black Americans than gay Americans.

There were some real funny parts in which I was laughing so hard it brought tears to my eyes, but overall I have to say that I expected much more, the really good parts were already in the trailer, so that was disappointing. I think it got the most laughs out of the really shocking parts. I just expected more of a story or something.

I'm 100% supportive of the LGBT community, but I don't think anyone is going to think less of the Gay community because of Bruno. He's a character, not a real person (obviously). In fact, Bruno is adorable and lovable. Maybe I'll never get it because I'm straight, but I think Bruno is just a sweet, albeit naive character/live artist. Maybe I'm just blinded by how cute Sacha is… :0)
It may have outperformed the studio's expectations, but that's only because their expectations were low. Expectations in the industry were that the movie would make AT LEAST $35-40M. This movie may not even make $100M, in the end.
it was hilarious, at the end of the day he is a character not a real person and Its not like hes representing all gay people. As an Individual character he worked it well!

The studio was originally predicting $40 million for the weekend, so I don't see how $30 million is outperforming expectations. As far as being more money than Borat's first weekend, Borat opened in less than 1,000 theaters so Bruno is not doing nearly as well.

He's funny, sort of. Not my typical brand of humor — Church Lady is funnier, to me.
But I find him "dangerous" to young gay kids, already filled with fear and anger about being "discovered" as being gay. This is a stereotype that can really hurt kids and young teens. Scary stuff, I'd think you'd say, MISS P!!!
Cohen's cool. But I prefer his Borat movie.
In a way he is almost too different in the Bruno movie compared to what I got used to in Borat. He's a cameleon!

I couldn't believe how funny and outrageous it was! I know that we have the uncut version, in the UK, and I found some of the scenes shocking. It really does show the what American ideals and values are - and then completely rips them to shreds! How some parents would sell their children's souls, just to get them a job, was very powerful. The fight scene, at the end, says it all.
Go and see it America, you'll hate yourselves for it!
I thought it sucked. It was edited to shit and many of the images from the trailer had been removed. This guy is talented but this was shit.

I saw it and thought it was pretty poor. There has been so much hype about it and it was definitely a disapointment. Most people walking out of the cinema didn't seem too impressed either.

loved Borat, but I liked this one better. More laughs. Surprisingly, it was the women in the audience that were laughing the loudest. Definitely not for kids under 17 though. The swinging scene was way too much for kids to see- even for me to see!

One of my favorite comedies this year besides "The Hangover" I wish I saw the unedited version but America is scared of that so I'll take this cut down version. If Bruno wasn't gay this movie wouldn't get so much controversy. any aspect in life has humor in ti and whoever doesn't get that or gets offended are going to have an extra complicated life because they can't take a joke.

Honestly - and I'll probably get crucified for this - but I didn't think it was all that different from Borat…
and they both aren't even close to being as funny as Ali G.
Do your homework, Perez (for once). While it is true that Bruno made more in its opening week than Borat did, it is also true that Borat opened in a third of the amount of theaters that Bruno did - meaning that Borat had a much, much higher per screen average and actually did much better than Bruno. It is also a very bad sign that the grosses nose-dived on Saturday and Sunday. People who actually know what they are talking about will tell you that the grosses should have increased on Saturday and that the studio is actually disappointed in the way that the movie performed in its first weekend.

I agree with the people who say that Bruno shows us how homophobic, stereotypical, and ignorant our country is. Bruno was absolutely hilarious. However, I walked out of the movie with a different feeling than with Borat. I felt disgusted in our country. The majority of Americans truly are a bunch of idiots.

actully it did BELOW expectations because Borat was debuted 4mil lower but at only 837 cinema's thats little yet her nearly earned more it was expected to earn about 35mil to 45mil but it does seem good.
saw it friday nite, in oklahomo city — and the crowd seemed to love it. real laughs all around. there were parts that made me squirm — like when he was dressed in the gay hacidic-shorts outfit and was being chased through the street of israel. or the debate between the israeli & palestinian guys. truly funny stuff.
so so so funny…. Yes, it was as "story" driven as BORAT and not as cleaver on the dialogue, but for "shock" value it was just something to laugh at during a period when people really need to laugh.
I saw this movie and I want my money back. It was the worst thing I think I have ever seen! I have never seen so many people walk out of a theater in my life! Nothing but TRASH! Do yourself a favor and pass on this one…

It was funny, hilarious even, but FAR FAR too much male frontal nudity. I know i'm of the pink persuasion, but I think even the straight women had some trouble with that, and I KNOW straight men were squerming in their seats as much as I was. Although I must say I've never seen more people walk out of a movie that cost them 10 dollars to see. I guess too much cock can traumatize people.
