Most of the major networks are suffering double-digit drops from last year. In fact, the three weeks ending July 5 were the major broadcast networks' lowest-rated in history.

Vamps, that true blood has made me watch TV. I like Sam the doggieboy, love the shape shifting.
Major networks need to get rid of almost all of the reality shows…the schedules are dreadful, unentertaining and no intellectual challenge…why watch?

I don't like True Blood. I have been watching Hung though. I miss Deadwood, Carnival and Rome. I hate Entourage, it's a pathetic excuse for TV. Oh, and Weeds is taking reg. TV away too.

Season 2 of True Blood stinks!!! They've turned it into some sci-fi/creature from the black lagoon lameness rather than sticking with the vamps and the relationships that made Season 1 so great. It's now like a really bad B movie horror flick from the 50s!

I never miss a new episode of True Blood. I swear i pay for cable just to have HBO. Just started watching Hung and am loving it. also watch Big Love when its on

HBO and Showtime have the best shows on TV right now: TrueBlood, Hung, Entourage, Weeds and Nurse Jackie.
I always pick a hand full of shows that I watch religiously. True blood is a main one and I love it!!!! Regular tv just cant keep up with HBO. Dont get me wrong I still have news shows I watch on regular tv but for the most part all of my shows I watch are on cable.

Cable/satellite has True Blood, the Closer, Weeds, Hung, Raising the Bar, Nurse Jackie, Hawthorne and Saving Grace. Then there are the HGTV and DIY shows.
Networks have dumb summer shows. The few good series, like Criminal Minds are in re-runs.
That's no surprise. It's this simple. Children, who probably make up a large percentage of summer TV viewing, do not watch programming for adults. They watch Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, G4, and other cable channels aimed towards their demographic. Adults, do not watch for two reasons. One, who wants to watch reruns? Especially in the DVR and internet age where you can find reruns to watch at any time. Two, adults want REAL adult programming. Cussing. Nudity. People smoking weed. R-rated programming. Not PG programming. Even with the V-chip and other means to restrict programming in your home, how many parents monitor their children's TV viewing, or set those controls? Probably not many. I won't even watch movies on FX, AMC, and what not because they are SO edited and so full of commercials. HBO, Showtime, etc. has fewer commercials-which are only commercials of other programming on their networks.
I have to believe they are only panicked about HBO, Showtime, Starz, etc. Most other regular cable channels are owned by the same companies that own the networks. I see that people are complaining about reality TV-but reality TV is perfect for the networks. Survivor makes more money in one episode in ad revenue than most other shows in an entire season. They're cheaper to produce, perfect for free television.
Okay, seriously. There are better reality TV shows on CBS than on say, VH1 or MTV. CBS has The Amazing Race (who wins the emmy every year), Survivor, and Big Brother. Not I love New York, The Hills, Rock of love, Paris Hilton's BFF, and so on. Get your facts straight.
Pft! There's nothing worth watching on TV any more. I should cancel my cable. it's such a waste of money! I end up watching the DVDs I rented because there's never anything but crap on TV.

The only network shows I watch are Lost (barely hanging on though) and FNL (which I now watch online). Almost every network show I like gets canceled. The rest is bad reality crap. Long live cable where I can get shows like True Blood and Mad Men.

Well, cable has some of the best programming! True Blood is fantastic and with Leverage starting this Wednesday, well I have no plans to watch network TV at all this summer. Cable is more apt to let their shows grow instead of canceling them after a few episodes. Keep up the great work HBO and TNT!
Re: gimlet123 – America is dumbing down itself. Friday Night Lights is a great show and NBC stuck with it, but the idiots of America just didn't tune in. Same thing happened with two other shows I enjoyed, American Dreams and Swingtown. People just want the procedural crap. Cable is great because 2 million viewers is huge for them.
