Mayor Villaraigosa Calls MJ Donation Site "Ridiculous"

Filed under: Politik > Michael Jackson

mj_la_money__opt1.jpg

So even though LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is reportedly appalled that his staff set up a website asking for donations from the public to foot the bill for MJ's memorial, Villaraigosa still expects the city of Los Angeles to pay!!!!

Such crap!

The mayor was on vacation in South Africa when the website went up and has called it "ridiculous," but Villaraigosa believes the city is responsible for the safety costs around the perimeter of the Staples Center.

The pricetag?

Oh, only $1.4 million!!!!

We're curious to see how Villaraigosa will magically make $1.4 million appear out of thin air from a state currently struggling with a $24 billion deficit!

plz let him rest in peace, I'm starting to get tired of hearing about it..

    2. 2

the city should dip into Jackson's $250,000,000 estate.

    3. 3

He's getting it from the City's emergency fund that's set aside for fires and earthquakes…he's a ass…

    4. 4

I hope they start footing bills for all pedophiles' memorials in the state, because no matter how great a performer he was, that's what it all rolls back too. What a world we live in!

    5. 5

but what i don't understand is why this city put up all that money for a memorial for a dude they were trying to put in jail just a couple years ago. … and where are all the "friends" Jackson had… how much money did they pony up for the "sniff sniff friend" … how much money did the jackson contribute to this circus? the city shouldn't have done it… the "friends" and "fans" should have paid for it… damn it.

    6. 6

Why wasn't it ridiculous when the Lakers parade was funded by donations not so long ago? That was his idea and it worked. There were people generous enough to step up and pay because we have no money in this state. We've had 2 tax increases in 3 months. We have no summer school for children. We have job losses and pay cuts. We have prisons with criminals stying 1 night instead of 6 months, back on the streets cause there's no room or money. Childcareograms for single mothers are being cut, forcing them to go back on welfafe because they can't work and pay affordable childcare. The list goes on and on. If someone wants to pay for Michale Jackson's memmorial then please do so. The Mayor is just embarassed altogether and doesn't know where to turn for help anymore.

    7. 7

i don't give a rats ass about michael jackson or his death, the city is not responsible for paying and neither are the people that live in california. the dumbass who spent that much money in the first place is responsible to foot the bill.

    8. 8

OK, 1.4 million is a lot. But how much MJ fans did it attract and how much money did the local economy make from them, staying in hotels, eating in restaurants etc? It's not 'just' 1.4 milion through the drain

    9. 9

it's ridiculous to think the city, the tax payers should have to flip the bill for that memorial. No other normal person has the city paying for their memorial and people die every day in LA. It's a total fucking joke and Viaretardo is a piece of shit. He should go back to banging news reporters and shut his fucking mouth. Maybe he should check the bank account of this city and state before he suggests we just flip the bill for a memorial.

Sure must be nice to go vacationing in South Africa and live the high life and expect the citizens of this city to pay for that shit too. what a douche bag!

    10. 10

You know what you guys? His memorial was very moving… 2 hours live TV. It's the least any of us can do but to donate to the city of LA a mere $5 via PayPal and just move on. I did. Just do it.

    11. 11

That mayor needs to stfu. Now he just wants publicity. Stupid government bitches. They talk crap about other people and they have their own skeletons in their closets. Its all an act. Seriously do your research and know your facts before you start talkin about this dude.

    12. 12

      let the jacksons pay

Re: take me on the floorRe: take me on the floor

I understand where you are coming from, but we must trust our legal system. He was found not guilty. He even underwent inspection of his genitals by doctors and law enforcement to prove his innocence. It's a terrible stigma, but our society's laws proved him innocent in a court of law… let him rest in peace. Give LA $5 and move on… he was a good guy that entertained the world for decades. He deserves to rest in peace.

Yeah okay, lets take from the poor to give the rich a lavish funeral, bullshit

    15. 15

The state is issuing IOU's to pay their bills. What would happen if i sent in an IOU to pay my taxes? There is nothing wrong with Cali kickin' in….if u are able.

    16. 16

Re: SkyYYZ – You're assuming everyone actually watched it.

    17. 17

      How about an I.O.U.?

    18. 18

Villaraigosa is an idiot….although the city should not be paying for this….i suspect that he doesn't like it because he didn't think about it…..and don't get me wrong….it is a JV move…but it was a JV move when he did it with the Lakers…..how this man got re-elected is beyond me…..bottom line…some one from my family dies…i pay for the funeral….period…..now…can we please move on from this…..really…

    19. 19

      Re: Sara79

very true :) i'm sorry you missed it if you didn't watch.

    20. 20

He is so full of it! It wasn't a "family funeral". It was A PRODUCTION PUT ON BY AEG, THE COMPANY THAT OWNS THE COPYRIGHTS TO THE FOOTAGE. This company will take that footage, edit it, and sell it for MASSIVE profits in the future. Unless the City of Los Angeles is entitled to a portion of those profits by participating in the creation of the product, then NO Los Angeles should NOT have to pay.

What other "family funeral" have you ever watch that said, "Copyright AEG" at the end?

I am writing the Mayor's office RIGHT NOW!

    21. 21

it's sad to see how everyone is ready to pay for a (legendary) singer when millions poeple can't even eat once a day

fuck villa ratero, he is a crook and I am certain he can get the money from the same fund he has from pilfered tax dollars.

    23. 23

oh my god dont give that stuip family another penny ,donate to them, teh family can flip the bill, for god sake

    24. 24

      1.4 million ?
and, how much did mj pay california in taxes ?
i bet much much more than a measely 1.4 million

    25. 25

It's much better to ask for donations from fans than to force the taxpayers to pay for it. You should have the option to not fund stuff like this if you choose.

    26. 26

Re: BanPerezHilton – You are fucking L.A.M.E. Atleast KISSMYASSOBAMA is a little funny w/ his antic's about MJ. Don't agree w/ any of it but YOU SUCK.

    27. 27

This shit really makes me mad.
The state of California can't afford to pay social security disability recipients or for tax returns… but we can all chip in our hardearned money to pay for his memorial?
      AAAAHHHH.

    28. 28

      Re: BanPerezHilton
      maybe LA needz

      ending….crapola

    29. 29

Hey if it is already $24. Billion in debt what the hell is another $1.4 million. Get over it it was money well spent. The memorial went off with out a hitch. The city of L.A. should quite bitching and be proud that Michael called it home and his resting place.

      30

You get the government you deserve.

    31. 31

look, i just buried my lil brother three months ago and me and my family paid for it. everything from the coffin, embalming, funeral arrangements, and police escorts, and we don't make anything near what this family has. I believe its the family's responsibility to pay for the expenses. $1.4 Million in rich people's world is nothing.

    32. 32

      Tony Villar is a joke.
Which Los Angeles losers votes this azzhole in?
He is nothing but a greasy opportunist…one step below Blagoivitch!

    33. 33

Finally some sense. The city SHOULD supply and pay for Fire and Police staff. World Class City is right, but even a trailer park should supply the security if THAT'S WHAT THEY DO. Geez. This is all so petty. That website is an embarrassment. If people really want to get down in the gutter and start counting coins, think about the previous 45 years of Michael's life and all the revenue generated for LA every time he toured or promoted a major event. Add those numbers and get back to those of us with an ounce of sense. pul-leeze.

    34. 34

What was the point having the memorial there if the state was in $24 million in debt! & whoever they're borrowing from is not going 2 pay 4 it so, that was pretty retarted!!

    35. 35

      it wasnt 1.4, it was 3.4 ,

1.4 is grossly underestimated by the officials, it is a lie, it was closer to 4 million , a fact !!!!!!!!!!
they need to stop telling lies .
the truth must be told .

    36. Cass says – reply to this

      36

The city isn't paying for the memorial. They're paying for the cost of managing the public safety side of an event that happened in thier jurisdiction. That's what they do for any large event or potential security need. If it had been a convention or sports event that drew that many people, they would have responded the same way.

    37. 37

Why would they spend THAT much on a memorial? I know Michael was great but seriously wtf? No one else's death would have been made into such a spectacle. Let the poor guy rest in peace. People who were filmed getting tickets to it acted like they were going to a concert. Fucking ridiculous.

    38. 38

Maybe a state that has to give out IOU's for tax returns shouldn't be holding a 1.4 Million dollar memorial. If you can't pay your officers for their scheduled hours how did they expect to pay ever officer they had overtime???? Someone in our Fing government should learn what a budget is.

As for whose going to pay for it… why not the people where there? or maybe the moron who decided Cali needed to not only hold this crazy event, but close down the streets, give the family a crazy police escort, and keep a radius around the staples center? No one in their right mind could have though that would be cheap to do.

    39. 39

Looks like more people trying to extort money! When will this end?

    40. 40

      Re: Mickey9661

I think the Jacksons should pay for at least some of it. If anyone of us had a memorial for our dead relative,we'd have to pay for it.
If Cal.is having such a hard time now, then for someone to go after the Jacksons and say that they need to at least help to pay for all this.
There's money to pay for it,so PAY for it!

    41. 41

Re: TBAAAA – Michael's estate is much more, buddy.

      44

it's easy - BILL THE ESTATE. I'm not paying for this memorial (I live in CA) that will undoubtedly end up on my tax bill. I didn't approve a memorial, nor did Arnie. The FAMILY wanted a public memorial. They (LA) should have charged entrance just like any other event at the Staples Center. LA screwed up BIG TIME.

    45. 45

they should just raise their taxes, all these dumb brainwashed americans wanna worship a pedophile like hes god, then just make their taxes skyrocket, most dumb americans wanna be slave lemmings anyway.

    46. 46

omg! i am SO SICK of comments from people like "take me on the floor" about mj being a pedaphile!!! HE WAS NOT A PEDAPHILE! he was a kid who never grew up and their is a dif! i love u MJ and i hope someday these jerks will let you rest in peace!

    47. 47

I think this is ridiculous. How about we start thinking about the soldiers who are dying every day and aren't even given the respect of their names mentioned in the paper. It's sad the country has forgotten about them. Wise up America.

    48. 48

You didn't have a site up asking for Donations when Britney was hospitalized and all the police protection that was used, It was $$$$. Call it both ways

    49. 49

Re: Princessgvam – you illustrated my point perfectly, another dumb brainwashed American sticking their neck out for a sick pedophile that didn't even know you existed, its like a sickness in this country.

    50. 50

Wow, wasnt it tuesday july 7? Always proofread before you post : )

    51. 51

Re: KDIZZLL – No, wrong. You are the sickness in the country. You represent all those who judge without first seeking to find the facts.

    52. 52

Re: Princessgvam – You are right. These idiots on this website, including PerASS, will never get it.

    53. 53

That funeral brought in a lot of tax revenue from all the people who attended and booked hotel rooms, rented cars, ate in restaurants.

    54. 54

Re: c h a d s t e r – I think you need to wake up buddy!the facts are right in front of your face, but you'll turn a blind eye to it because the idiot box(tv)is pumpin your brain with how great michael jackson was, they call it television programming for a reason, your brain is a electro chemical computer and the TV is the programming software,so in other words you are brainwashed! ignorance really is bliss, that is the sickness I was talking about.

    55. 55

Ha, the money was there to pay off Debbie Rowe as quickly as you could blink. Those Jacksons can take care of the cost of the funeral, as any family would. They should certainly be made too!

    56. 56

Re: TBAAAA – And let's not forget his great friends. Just sayin the people of LA should not have to pay!

      57

Micael heavily lined a lot of pockets. I'm surprised that those that made their fortune off of him are not footing the bill to send him off right. The security around the event was gross overkill, IMHO. People could get themselves to and from the event and behave, all by themselves, without a gazillion officers pulling overtime.

    58. 58

      GREEDY FUCKERS !
