Up Blows Up The Box Office

up_poster.jpg

Pixar's Up is a bonafide monster hit!

The animated film has just passed $280 million in box office from theaters worldwide!

Up has now topped Wall-E, Toy Story, The Incredibles and Cars in box office earnings, making it the 2nd highest grossing film for the studio.

And which Pixar flick holds the number one spot?

Finding Nemo, of course!

The fishy film brought in a whopping $339 million for the studio back in 2003!!

I think it's because, for the first time ever, the protagonist is an elderly man. They're finally catering to the older, richer population!

Also because it was super cute and taps into everyone's dream of being carried into the sky with balloons….

  2. 2

I'm not surprised. I saw it and it really is a great film. The Incredibles and Finding Nemo are still my favorites though.

  3. 3

    It totally deserves it!
    Such a good movie.

I loved it and could watch it over and over again.

  4. 4

It's a great movie. I went to see it when it first came out on a whim - at the 9:30 pm showing. I was the only one in the theater (of course) and I had a blast watching it. It was like a private showing.

  5. 5

wrong!!! its made $320,630,999 worldwide and wont even come close to finding nemos worldwide take of $866,592,978. yet again you baffle me with your stupidity.

  6. 6

It was cute, but not as good as Nemo.

  7. 7

The beginning was fantastic. I think that's what gets people going. I found that after that it was pretty lack-luster. Not even that funny/entertaining. Obviously they know the formula to pull at our heartstrings.

  8. 8

    my kids loved that movie
    y'all bitches

  9. 9

Its scoring high with the critics… I will see it eventually :)

  10. 10

Ahh, Finding Nemo, that's what I'll be watching tonight. Perfect!
    .
Loved Up. It's only a house.

  11. 11

Loved this movie. Totally deserving of the big office take! It's of course not as good as Finding Nemo but it's definitely worthy of owning on DVD… which is saying a lot.

Such a good movie! Pixar is the only section of Disney that is still likeable.

  14. 14

  16. 16

This movie is up there with the GREATS; Little Mermaid, Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, Cinderella…it's just as equally phenomenal as them! Great message in it!

  17. 17

Get your facts right….What you are talking about is Domestic….Finding Nemo has made almost 900 million while Up is currently at about 308 million worldwide.

  18. 18

    Re: SWEETPIECE!Re: SheriMoonFireFly
My kids loved it. Hey Sweets I am holding finding Nemo! But, sometimes I still watch the little mermaid! Disney makes the best toons with Pixar. Next Harry Potter!!!!

  22. 22

love this movie is was a great one

  23. 23

It was good. The beginning is genius but it bogs down. Eventually it devolves into too many cartoon-style chase me - catch me sequences. Too long for the story line. But worth seeing, I guess. Just not as great as they are saying.

Pixar is so great, ten movies that have all been hits. all of their movie characters are so well developed and seem like real people. i want to for them =]

  27. 27

Re: SheriMoonFireFly – Deeper and richer, sweet and funny! Unlike the propaganda film Transformers.

"Up" is a horrible film!!! It began with a nice message about timeless love, and then it took a detour in the wrong direction. The film is slow, and boring, and then it got silly…as in, junk food for the mind, silly. I saw several people walk-out on the film, in fact, I saw a family, with their child, walk-out, and I felt like walking-out too, and multiple times, mind you. The 3-D effect was bad also, as much of it played flat. I would pull off my 3-D glasses to check to see if it was playing just as flat without them, as it was with them on…and it was??? The 3-D trailers were much better in terms of stereo 3-D imaging, I'm not kidding!!! Overall, this movie is awful…in addition to being an overrated waste of time, and money for the wealth of the story arc. Rent "Happy Feet" instead, now that is a great family film, and just a great film period–a classic in our time. I did not expect that…or want to see it even…but Happy Feet is truly a great film, animated, or not!!!

Re: kileyrilo – Your the one the floped. They haven't calculated all the worldwide totals yet it is around 500 million world wide.

  32. 32

I loved it, took my daughters twice!

  33. 33

I loved UP, but do they take into account that the theaters charge at least $4.50 for the 3D version???

  34. 34

    Re: SWEETPIECE!Re: sheba088
    Nemo iz one
    of my favz….
    watched it 2/death,,,
    hey peepz♥

  35. 35

I like all other pixar movies better. people are going to see it because it is pixar and then they leave disappointed. the money is spent already.

  36. 36

I wish they did these stats by number of tickets sold. Back in 2003 you could still get a ticket for $6. Now it's more like $10 (in the midwest). Can't compare popularity effectively. But I guess to Pixar it's only the bottom line that matters, not if they actually produce a good film franchise for *children*.

  37. 37

WHAT! WHAT!WHUATATAT! I HATED THAT MOVIE! I WAS DEALING WITH some serious girl issues when i watched it in 3-d ( so i cried twice) but i hated it. too long and it totally lost me.

  38. 38

i honestly wasnt that into up
i was kinda waiting for it to end the whole time
it was average in my mind, nothing amazing

  39. 39

This was such a cute movie! =)
