We mentioned earlier today that production has been halted on the new NBC drama Parenthood due to star Maura Tierney's undisclosed illness.

Well, Tienery has revealed in an official statement that the ER and Newsradio alum has found a tumor in her breast.

Maura has not learned her diagnosis yet, but her doctors "have all assured [her] this is a very treatable condition" which will require surgery to remove the tumor.

Tierney is more than confident that she will be able to return to the Parenthood set sooner than later after the procedure.

She continues, "I'm very optimistic as to the outcome and want to thank everyone who has sent positive thoughts and support. I look forward to going back to work soon."

Stay strong, Maura!

She's hot, and this is sad, but the truth is she's a heavy smoker, and this doesn't surprise me at all.

Love her. She's one of the best actresses on TV hands down, if not THE best. Enjoyed her work for years. Thoughts are with her, for real.

Jeez, you'd think the woman was already dx with cancer, for goodness sake. Having a lump removed is not a major surgery. I was completely awake when they removed mine, which turned out to be benign and hopefully hers will be as well. And as a NON-smoker, when someone might possibly be diagnosed with cancer and someone says, "well he or she smokes!" is just annoying, like they deserve it or something. I've never smoked in my life (well…cigarettes, at least) but know enough to understand that it IS an addiction, just like drugs or alcohol.
