Hair Goes Dark For Equality!

Filed under: Gay Gay Gay > Broadway Babies

broadway_hair.jpg

The producers of Hair have announced that the musical will be going dark on Sunday, October 11th so its cast can support marriage equality at the National Equality March in Washington D.C.!

Ticket-holders will be able to exchange their Oct. 11th tickets for a performance on October 5th.

The rest of Broadway should follow suit!!

Because where would Broadway be without the gays???

Hair's artistic director, Oskar Eutis, believes the decision to go dark mimics the theme of the musical: “Its message of change and hope and inclusion is one we try to live, not just preach.”

Well put!

Will U be joining them (and us) on the mall???

    Perez,
I am still confused over how you feel entitled to speak progressively about LGBT issues. You sit in your comfortable condo, typing trivial blogposts, while your mother does your maid-work.
It's easy to be an "activist" behind the safety of your computer screen. But when you are faced with the slightest stressor - when you enter the real world, out from behind your safety net - you succomb to hate-filled insults. You throw around demeaning insults when you feel "threatened".
And isn't that the mark of someone's true character? Not how they behave in comfort, but how they behave in adversity.
Oh, but thanks for that "heartfelt" apology, issued from that comfy condo while your mother tends to your laundry.
Shame on you. You are not my voice, and not a voice of justice.

fabulous! as someone who has seen this production twice, I can tell you that this cast is more than a bunch of faceless actors - these are incredibly talented people who truly exude the message of equality and liberation FOR ALL.

and for the record, I am an older, straight female. if you haven't seen the show - do.
I can't say enough great things about this show - get out and see it!

Wow, more inconvenience for people who may actually have already booked hotels and flights… another reason to add to the list of backlashers. You can't even get a refund - just a ticket for "another performance". Just goes to show that it's more about being in your face, than honoring your commitments to the people who PAY to see you and plan vacations to go to the production. "We don't care what you think, we're gay, taking your money and running to D.C."

Dirty drugged out hippies. Fucking hedonist baby boomer leftovers have ruined this country with all their if it feels good do it bullshit. Can't wait until that generation dies off. Just when they want to retire, their portfolios get wiped out. Just when they are getting old and will need healthcare more than anyone else they will be forced into a s-o-c-i-a-l-i-s-t (because Perez is a ensoring commie fuck)nationalized healthcare system which will of course lead to rationed healthcare and the least productive citizens i.e. baby boomers will be forced to renew on carousel. Poetic fucking justice.

gavin creel (tony nominated actor playing claude) has been a major supporter
of the equality/gay marriage efforts! congrats to him and the entire hair production!
btw….this version of hair is exceptional. the best.

  14. 14

    I'll be there!

  15. 15

THATS MY FRIEND STEEL IN THE BACK! HE'S IN THE CAST!

I think this is so admirable and that all the Broadway shows should support the cause. I've seen the production twice and all the cast members really live the show. They support the ideals in the show, that racism and homophobia are wrong and they sing about it! How could it get any better?!?! For them, it's not about "being in your face," marriage equality is a HUGE issue not just here in New York, so why shouldn't a group of people who believe in the cause support it at a march? I fully support them and would like to join everyone at the march if I'm able to make it. Equality now!!!

Re: imsoregistered – Why do we doubt you have ever even seen a Broadway production?
