WTF??? Not Cool Dallas police!
They're at it again!
Another Texas LGBT bar was raided over the weekend by the police force and the Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission (TABC). This comes on the heels of the more publicized raid on the Rainbow Lounge in Fort Worth, resulting in the very serious head injury of a bar patron.
The bar in question from this weekend, called the Eagle, watched as officials barged into the establishment to question whether or not they had an updated liquor license. The license needed to be have the address updated as the bar had just move a few yards into a new building.
But that seems just a bit too easy, if you ask us.
But then, the TABC and boys in blue down in Dallas were seen by patrons wearing NINJA MASKS.
WTF??????????
Obviously, somebody had something to hide, like their identity in case they wanted to get a little rough like the last time.
Nothing happened. No one was hurt or arrested. But it was clearly a thought the police considered. Otherwise, why hid their faces?
A spokesperson for the TABC stands firm that the issue that concerned the raid was only the selling of alcohol without an updated license and there isn't anything "in common" with the previous raid on the Rainbow Lounge.
Just because you say it doesn't make it so.
Furthermore, the TABC insists that it was not one of their men who donned the masks, while the Dallas Police Dept. conceded that it might have been one of their guys. Well, now we know where to point our finger at.

Every bar should be up to date with their paperwork- it doesn't matter who (gay or straight) hangs out there. There were other bars (not just gay bars) they entered for the same reason.

In fact, i knew their names. So if they're trying to protect their identities, they're doing a pretty crappy job. Plus if you read the story more thoroughly, you might notice that the TABC Didn't wear the masks, it was The Dallas PD. But keep up the name calling, ad hominem arguments are highly respected… undercover work HA!
As a resident of Dallas, I have to point out your bias on this issue. They aren't only raiding gay bars. They raided a few bars where straight people hang out, too, because their licenses were not up to date. You wouldn't want to give the full story, now would you? But really, come on…. complaining about what someone wore? Most of the time when cops raid a large establishment they cover their faces. It's not just b/c they wanna "rough" someone up!
It was an undercover agent. They do this regularly to protect the identity of those working undercover. The eagle has also admitted fault in this incident.
I do not think this has anything to do with it being a gay bar. If you gays want to be treated equally start by following the damn rules!! If your liquor license is bad, fix it and this won't happen. Poor gays my ass! This was right on all levels, so was the Ft.Worth raid. And I live in the DFW area and this does not bother me at all.
I don't live in Dallas so I cannot attest to what you say Imsoregistered but I do know this….my brother is serving in the military (which you brought up) in Iraq and he doesnt wear a Ninja style mask. The whole mask thing seems very Klan (as in KKK) like to me. I worked in bars in Chicago (before I became a teacher) that were raided and the CPD NEVER wore MASKS? What purpose would that serve? If you want to bust someone for a license issue they just walk in and ask for your proper documentation. I have never felt compelled to make a comment but when you say the military does the same thing and my brother is an Army Ranger in Kirkuk, Iraq I get angry. Shut up! Sometimes they don't wear them, but because last time their undercover status was compromised because someone thought taking a picture of them doing their job would make a good story, they wore them this time. I've seen them both with and without the masks in raids at straight bars in the area. It all depends on the officer's status… undercover or not. It really is for their own protection.

It's not just the gay and lesbian bars being raided by the TABC, I live in Dallas. They raid any bar that they are suspicious of violating anything. Especially when they think the bar is serving to underage people, I've been there during a raid. Just because they aren't being reported doesn't mean they aren't happening.
Its horrible that one raid in Fort Worth turned violent, and its not right that someone did that, but Fort Worth and Dallas are completely different. They have different police departments. Get your facts straight before you point fingers.

Over 300 bars have been spot checked so far this month - not all gay bars, you idiot. Some TABC cops are undercover just like other cops who hide their identity during public raids. This is totally normal for a bar to get checked AND this bar did NOT have their liquor license effective yet. So yeah, they should have been checked out and closed down. I don't even like cops, but there is no reason this story should be getting any press. Plenty of gay bars operate legally and without problems in Dallas. It is a VERY gay friendly town.

Please don't be ignorant Perez! TABC does not just pick on gay bars. TABC is a very strict agency (as they should be). It isn't very hard to get the permit updated to the new location and that responsibility falls on the bar, not the TABC. I'm sure the Dallas Police covered their faces to protect themselves and their families when posts like this are made and puts them in jeopardy. Not cool Dallas Police?? How about keep your business in order and have no problems with TABC or the police!

My husband just left 2 days ago for the Middle East, he's had one since enlistment because he's consistently on "ready status", meaning go when called whether it be for state, city/civic duties or overseas. Some branches, they are the pea puke green, others are black depending on MOS. My best friend, as a sheriff carries one on his person at all times for any type of raids where backup is called and identities need not be revealed. Given the backlash for the guy who refuses to deny he was doing anything wrong, and this picture alone, is enough of a reason to conceal identity.

And when there are back-up officers around, it is common to see one or more wearing masks. AND of course it is to protect their identity!! THEY ARE UNDER-COVER officers! You can check any police blotter on the weekends and see raids going on in ALL types of bars, throughout the entire country. Topless, gay, straight, lesbian, hip hop, rave clubs… singling out a city for doing it is absurd. When my father owned a bar in Missouri, they checked it every week. Not only for underage drinking (which anyone in the "biz" can tell you, manslaughter charges for some kid driving away from your bar are the pinnacle of the raids), to operating without a license. If I truly believed there was bias - I'd be the first in line. But I've taken a common sense approach to ALL the articles here on gay rights issues. I believe in TOTAL rights for GLBT couples and people. But I'm not going to do it by pushing it so hard in someone's face they want to punch me. I'm going to do it through education, through calm heads, and show that everyone is a person. Those "ninja masks" were just regular masks to protect their identities (and safety, and families, and friends, and jobs, and etc.) ANYTHING can be spun and sensationalized.
