$20 Million Earned!!! Harry Potter Breaks Midnight Release Records!

It hasn't even been 24 hours and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is already breaking records!
The latest installment of the Harry Potter series has won the title of "Best Midnight Gross" of all time!!!!
The Half-Blood Prince earned a massive $20 million in ticket sales at its 12:01 a.m. opening Tuesday night, topping the midnight sales of both The Dark Night ($18 mil) and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith ($17 mil).
Even the midnight release of 2007's Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix can't hold a candle to last night's numbers - the last film in the HP series only grossed $12 million from 12 a.m. sales!
Who knows how high the figures will climb by the weekend's close!

I was walking out of the Union Square movie theater in NY around 10 pm and there was already a HUGE line of people waiting outside for Harry Potter. 10 feet wide and seemingly without end. Love those fans

I think the reason that it made so much is because fans have been waiting for 2 years for this. It was meant to come out in november, but Twilight came out in November and I'm assuming they thought they were going to lose sales to the shittiest movie ever. I would have gone to Harry Potter and the HBP any day over that peice of shit.
I do loves me some Dark Knight, but this was well-deserved to win it as well! MUCH more than that awful Transformers sequel

That's crazy dude. I understand that some people are in love with the series and all, but really? You can't wait ’till Friday or Saturday to see the movie like a normal human being? I personally am a fan of the Twilight series and I can't wait for the 2nd one to come out. I might see it opening day, but not if it's at midnight. I work and have a baby. I can't afford to see an hour and a half movie at midnight. There are more important things

Not surprised! I bought my tickets in the afternoon and avoided the loooong lines at the theater…and it was totally worth feeling like shit at work this morning! I do think that the 2 year lag between Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince increased the anticipation for this one and I already can't wait for the 2 films for Deathly Hollows!

The movie would have been a whole lot better if they would have stuck to the book more. They left alot to be explained for the final installment. I was not really impressed. It could have been better.

I went to the midnight premiere and I was honestly a little disappointed with the movie. It was good, I mean hello this is Harry Potter we're talking about here, but overall I wasn't thrilled. After waiting for more than a year for HBP I was expecting more and it didn't live up to the expectations I had. I guess I expected to much, I'll just go read the book again and be happy.

Harry Potter was soooo awesome and amazing, I have loved the series for over 10 years and everything gets better and better! The books are truly a work of art and are amazing pieces of literature! As for Twilight…it can't compare, the Twilight series is nothing more that pre-teeny fan fiction. Makes me gag when I think about it. If you want to watch a REAL vampire series or books, read the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, or watch TRUE BLOOD….now that's some good stuff!
